    Abstract Schwannomas are not uncommon in the maxillofacial region; however, those with intraoral localization and, in particular, the hard palate are among the least frequently described. In the current case report, we present a 17-year-old girl with a histologically verified schwannoma of the hard palate on the right, originating from the right greater palatine nerve. In her case, despite the lysis of the palatine bone from the tumor compression, the disease is asymptomatic, causing only a weak sensation of local discomfort. The lesion was removed surgically under general anesthesia and the resulting defect of the palatal mucosa was compensated by plastic reconstruction with a lingual mucosal flap on a posterior feeding base. The recovery period was uneventful.

    Abstract The paper presents an assessment of the effect of the Sedimine microelement product on the morphobiochemical composition of the blood of calves during the milk feeding period. For the experiment, 2 groups of heifers of HolsteinKholmogory breed at the age of 2-3 weeks were formed. The calves of the experimental group were injected intramuscularly with Sedimine at a dose of 5 ml three times with an interval of 7 days, and the control animals were given a saline solution in the same way. Blood for hematological and biochemical studies was obtained at the beginning of the experiment and a week after the first and last injection. According to the research it has been established, that after a single injection of Sedimine, there were no evident changes in the biochemical profile of the blood, with the exception of a decrease in the level of urea by 30.6% (from 4.9 to 3.4 mmol/l; P<0.001). After three-time administration of the drug, there was an increase in total protein by 9.6 % (from 54.2 to 59.4 g / l; P<0.05) and an increase in AlAT activity by 1.2 times (P<0.001), while in comparison with the control, the activity of AsAT was greater (P<0.01) by 43.4 % (57.5 U/l). The de Ritis coefficient in the experimental group decreased by 43.1 % (to 6.2; P<0.01), while in the control group, on the contrary, the indicator increased by 32.1 % (to 11.1). The ratio of calcium to phosphorus in all animals decreased by 28.8...32.1 % (P<0.001), but in young animals treated with Sedimine, the ratio was 16.7 % (0.84) higher compared to the intact group of calves (P<0.05). The concentration of thyroglobulin in the experimental group significantly decreased by 29.4 % (from 0.34 to 0.24; P<0.01), with stable values in calves that were treated with saline. Injections of the preparation contributed to the stable maintenance of iron in the blood of animals of the experimental group, the concentration of which was 3 times higher (P<0.01) in relation to the control, where the indicator was 5.9 micromol/l. Also, the control animals showed a decrease in the number of red blood cells by 31.9% (from 4.7 * 10 12 to 3.2*10 12) and hemoglobin by 19.5% (from 87.2 to 70.2 g / l; P<0.05), with stable values in the experimental group, which were higher by 56.3 % (5.0*1012) and 22.2 % (90.2 g/l) compared to the control (P<0.05). Changes in white blood were characterized by a higher level of white blood cells in calves of the experimental group (by 27.7 %), primarily due to a 36.7 % (4.1*109

    Р<0.01) higher number of lymphocytic cells. Thus, a three-time injection of the test drug was quite effective in preventing iron deficiency in calves during milk feeding and had a positive effect on metabolic processes.

    Abstract Introduction/aims: Ultrasound imaging of muscle tissue conventionally results in two-dimensional sampling of tissue. For heterogeneously affected muscles, a sampling error using two-dimensional (2D) ultrasound can therefore be expected. In this study, we aimed to quantify and extend ultrasound imaging findings in neuromuscular disorders by using three-dimensional quantitative muscle ultrasound (3D QMUS).
    Methods: Patients with facioscapulohumeral dystrophy (n = 31) and myotonic dystrophy type 1 (n = 16) were included in this study. After physical examination, including Medical Research Council (MRC) scores, the tibialis anterior muscle was scanned with automated ultrasound. QMUS parameters were calculated over 15 cm of the length of the tibialis anterior muscle and were compared with a healthy reference data set.
    Results: With 3D QMUS local deviations from the healthy reference could be detected. Significant Pearson correlations (P < .01) between MRC score and QMUS parameters in male patients (n = 23) included the mean echo intensity (EI) (0.684), the standard deviation of EI (0.737), and the residual attenuation (0.841). In 91% of all patients, mean EI deviated by more than 1 standard deviation from the healthy reference. In general, the proportion of muscle tissue with a Z score >1 was about 50%.
    Discussion: In addition to mean EI, multiple QMUS parameters reported in this study are potential biomarkers for pathology. Besides a moderate correlation of mean EI with muscle weakness, two other parameters showed strong correlations: standard deviation of EI and residual attenuation. Local detection of abnormalities makes 3D QMUS a promising method that can be used in research and potentially for clinical evaluation.

    Abstract The family of genes containing C2H2 zinc finger domains, which has more than 700 members, is one of the largest in the genome. Of particular interest are C2H2 genes with potential tissue-specific transcription, which determine the functional properties of individual cell types, including those associated with pathological processes. The aim of this work was to identify C2H2 family genes with tissue-specific transcription and analyze changes in their activity during tumor progression. To search for these genes, we used four databases containing data on gene transcription in human tissues obtained by RNA-Seq analysis. The analysis showed that, although the major part of the C2H2 family genes is transcribed in virtually all tissues, a group of genes has tissue-specific transcription, with most of the transcripts being found in the testis. After having compared all four databases, we identified nine such genes. The testis-specific transcription was confirmed for two of them, namely ZBTB32 and ZNF473, using quantitative PCR of cDNA samples from different organs. A decrease in ZBTB32 and ZNF473 transcription levels was demonstrated in germ cell tumors. The studied genes can serve as candidate markers in germ cell tumors.

    Abstract Background: Digital pathology has come a long way in terms of creating tools to improve existing diagnostic approaches. However, several pathology fields, such as neuropathology, are still characterized by low coverage from machine learning tools and neural network analysis, which may be due to the complexity of the internal cellular and molecular structure of the corresponding neoplasms, including glioblastomas.
    Method: In the framework of this study, using advanced proprietary tools for obtaining images of histological slides and their deep morphometric analysis, we studied samples of 198 patients with glioblastoma with the selection of morphometric cell clusters. Also, cells of each cluster were isolated, and their proliferative, migratory, invasive activity, survival ability, aerobic glycolysis activity, and chemo- and radioresistance were studied.
    Results: Four morphometric clusters were identified, including small-cell cluster, paracirculonuclear cluster, hypochromic cluster, and macronuclear cluster, which significantly differed in morphometric parameters and functional parameters. Hypochromic cluster cells demonstrated the highest proliferation activity; macronuclear cluster was the most active glucose consumer; paracirculonuclear cluster had the most prominent migratory and invasive activity and hypoxia resistance; small-cell cluster demonstrated predominantly average values of all parameters. Moreover, additional analysis revealed the presence of a separate subcluster of stem cell elements that correspond in their molecular properties to glioma stem cells and are present in all four clusters. It also turned out that several key molecular parameters of glioblastoma, such as mutational modifications in the EGFR, PDGFRA, and NF1 genes, along with the molecular GBM subtype, are significantly correlated with the identified cell clusters.
    Conclusions: Thus, the results represent an up-and-coming innovation in the practical field of digital pathology and fundamental questions of glioma carcinogenesis.

    Abstract Aim: To evaluate the influence of dispersed fibrous carbon sorbent (DFCS) on malignant fungating wounds (MFWs) in Guerin's carcinoma-bearing rats with an assessment of wound bacterial microflora.
    Materials and methods: The study was performed on female Wistar rats inoculated subcutaneously with Guerin T8 carcinoma into the upper interscapular region. On day 20, the tumors were infected by injecting the suspension of S. aureus 8325-4. After 24 h, gauze dressings were applied daily to the wounds in the control group and DFCS in the experimental one. The state of the wounds was assessed by visual control with photo monitoring, odor control on a verbal rating scale and microbiological analysis of qualitative and quantitative characteristics of wound microbiota.
    Results: On the 3rd day after the start of dressings, the number of S. aureus of 8325-4 strain was significantly higher in the wounds of rats in control group than experimental one (5.14 ± 0.27 vs 3.43 ± 0.33 lg CFU/ml). The total number of Staphylococci in the DFCS-treated wounds did not differ statistically from the number of S. aureus 8325-4 strain whereas in control ones were higher by an order of magnitude. On the 10th day the total number of Staphylococci and S. aureus 8325-4 in particular, remained consistently high in the wounds of the control rats, while was almost five orders of magnitude lower and represented mainly by S. aureus 8325-4 in the experimental ones. The total number of aerobic and optionally anaerobic microorganisms was significantly lower as well. A greater variety of microorganisms in the gauze-covered wounds, as well as an their increased number were accompanied by enhancement of the wound odor from "noticeable" to "strong". There was an appearance of a "barely noticeable" odor in only one animal from the experimental group.
    Conclusion: The study has demonstrated the ability of DFCS to control substantially the bacterial microflora as well as malodor of MWFs in vivo. The results obtained can contribute to solving the problem of improving the quality of palliative care for patients with malignant and other chronic wounds.
