Abstract Golden cyst nematodes have threatened the cultivation of 'Toyoshiro', a major potato variety used for chip processing in Japan. Common scab is a soilborne disease that occurs in potato fields worldwide. To solve these problems, we crossed two US varieties and selected a clone that showed a slightly higher marketable yield and a significantly higher yield rate, compared with 'Toyoshiro', and had good chip processing quality, extreme resistance to cyst nematodes, and moderately high resistance to common scab. This clone was named 'Poroshiri'; it is the first variety released from the Calbee Potato breeding program.

Abstract Purpose: In 2011, the International Commissionon Radiological Protection (ICRP) recommended reducing the threshold dose for the lens. Therefore, it is important to reduce the lens exposure dose in medical exposures. In a cranio-caudal (CC) view of mammography, the patient' s lens receives scattered radiation. In this study, we investigated scatter dose around the lens during mammography and reviewed the simple and easy protection methods of the lens.
Methods: Optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dosimeters were placed in front of the device to obtain scattered radiation intensity distribution. The human phantom was placed in the same way as the CC positioning, and BR-12 phantoms with a thickness of 40 mm was placed on the FPD. Then, the scatter dose around the lens was measured using an OSL dosimeter. In order to confirm the change in the scatter radiation dose by the face guard (FG) and eyelid, we measured and compared under the same conditions the presence of FG and adipose tissue about 1 mm thick assuming the eyelid.
Results: Scatter radiation intensity decreased around the FG. When the FG was installed, the scatter dose was reduced about 33%, and when the adipose tissue was pasted on the OSL dosimeter, the scatter dose was reduced about 29%.
Conclusion: This study suggested that eye closure during mammography was effective in reducing lens exposure. In the future, we would like to expect further protective effects by increasing the thickness of FG and reviewing the materials.

Abstract SARS-CoV-2 rapidly mutates and acquires resistance to neutralizing antibodies. We report an in-silico-designed antibody that restores the neutralizing activity of a neutralizing antibody. Our previously generated antibody, UT28K, exhibited broad neutralizing activity against mutant variants; however, its efficacy against Omicron BA.1 was compromised by the mutation. Using previously determined structural information, we designed a modified-UT28K (V

Abstract Aim: We developed an augmented reality technology-based endotracheal aspiration simulation tool (the AR tool) consisting of three modes: a mode for nursing students to learn endotracheal aspiration by themselves (learning mode); a mode for repeated practice (practice mode); and a mode for confirmation testing (test mode). This study aimed to compare the learning outcomes of the AR tool with traditional training mannequins and identify potential uses and improvements of the AR tool.
Methods: We invited students, and faculty members from the three universities who agreed to cooperate in conducting this study. Fifty-four students and nine faculty members agreed to participate in this study. The students were divided into two groups. One group was to study with the AR tool and the other group was to study with the traditional half-body training mannequin for suction. The students in both groups were asked to demonstrate endotracheal aspiration on another full-body type training mannequin which could be used as a patient with a tracheostomy (Skill test). Group interviews with faculty members focused on the topic of the AR tool's potential use in nursing education and improvement needed.
Results: There was little significant difference in the skill test results of endotracheal aspiration of students in both groups. The students and faculty members both expressed an interest in the AR tool. They said it was suitable for self-study of endotracheal aspiration.
Conclusions: This AR tool is an effective teaching tool for learning the sequence of endotracheal suctioning, although there are some areas that need improvement.

Abstract Functionally rejuvenated human papilloma virus-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (HPV-rejTs) generated from induced pluripotent stem cells robustly suppress cervical cancer. However, autologous rejT generation is time consuming, leading to difficulty in treating patients with advanced cancer. Although use of allogeneic HPV-rejTs can obviate this, the major obstacle is rejection by the patient immune system. To overcome this, we develop HLA-A24&-E dual integrated HPV-rejTs after erasing HLA class I antigens. These rejTs effectively suppress recipient immune rejection while maintaining more robust cytotoxicity than original cytotoxic T lymphocytes. Single-cell RNA sequencing performed to gain deeper insights reveal that HPV-rejTs are highly enriched with tissue resident memory T cells, which enhance cytotoxicity against cervical cancer through TGFβR signaling, with increased CD103 expression. Genes associated with the immunological synapse also are upregulated, suggesting that these features promote stronger activation of T cell receptor (TCR) and increased TCR-mediated target cell death. We believe that our work will contribute to feasible "off-the-shelf" T cell therapy with robust anti-cervical cancer effects.

Abstract Common scab is a soilborne disease that occurs in potato worldwide. Scab is usually present superficially on potato tubers but nonetheless reduces marketability. A genome-wide association study for common scab resistance was performed using 13,002 genome-wide SNPs, with 165 genotypes mostly for chip-processing. We identified a novel QTL for common scab resistance that explained at most 14.7% of the total variance; this QTL was within the 640 kb interval between 0.43 Mb and 1.07 Mb on potato chromosome 1. Recessive homozygosity at this QTL increased levels of resistance. There is no agreement in terms of the locations of QTLs and their genetic modes between the results of previous studies and the present study or among any study. As such, common scab resistance is a highly complex trait, as the QTLs discovered to date are all minor-effect QTLs.

Abstract Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the educational improvement outcomes after introducing undergraduate public health nursing electives from the perspective of students, teachers, and public health nurses.
Design and sample: Post-test design with control group was used. We surveyed three groups of participants on the relevance of achieved skill items. These groups were as follows: fourth-year students, teaching staff from seven universities, and public health nurses from special districts of Tokyo who had pioneered the introduction of public health nursing electives.
Measures: The three participant groups were surveyed in 2013 and 2014 to compare the students' levels of achievement in the 98 skill items presented by the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare. Practical training introduced educational reform in 2014. Anonymous self-administrated questionnaires were used.
Results: The mean achievement rates of the 98 items in 2013 and 2014 were 67.9% and 72.6%, respectively, for students; 40.9% and 59.7% for teachers; and 44.4% and 59.4% for PHNs. A significant difference was observed between ratios of 2013 and 2014 in all three groups.
Conclusions: The results demonstrated that the introduction of educational reform increased the achievement rates of students through the electives.

Abstract Two-component signal transduction systems (TCSs), consisting of a histidine kinase (HK) and its cognate response regulator, are ubiquitous among bacteria and are associated with the virulence of pathogens. TCSs are potential targets for alternative antibiotics and antivirulence agents. It is, thus, very important to determine HK activity in bacterial TCSs. Here, we describe an immuno-dot blot assay for the inhibition profiling of HKs using the anti-N3-phosphohistidine antibody. This simple method promises reliable detection of HK activity, and it is likely applicable in high-throughput screening of HK inhibitors.
