Abstract The alpha function is an important part of the attractive term of cubic equation of state (EoS), which affected the predictive accuracy of thermodynamic properties. In this paper, four new alpha functions (Alpha Function-1 to Alpha Function-4) were proposed for the Peng-Robinson (PR) EoS. The proposed alpha functions and their derivatives satisfied the requirements of the thermodynamic consistency test. The four alpha functions with PR EoS were used to predict the thermodynamic properties of 11 kinds of compounds, the average relative deviation (ARD) of Alpha Function-1 and Alpha Function-2 for the prediction of vapor pressures was 0.57%, and the ARDs of Alpha Function-3 and Alpha Function-4 were 0.44 and 0.38%, respectively. The ARDs of Alpha Function-4 for the estimation of enthalpy of vaporization, liquid volume, and liquid isobaric heat capacity of seven kinds of compounds were 1.46, 7.54, and 7.59%, respectively. The proposed three-parameter alpha functions were more accurate than the two-parameter function for the prediction the vapor pressure and enthalpy of vaporization of pure compounds. However, any alpha function used in the attractive term of PR EoS had great deviations for the estimation of liquid volume and isobaric heat capacity.

Abstract Modeling the vapor liquid phase equilibrium of mixed refrigerants is the essential precondition for the calculation of refrigeration system. In this work, the study on 48 pure substances and 58 binary systems consisting of CxHy and CxHyFz was performed. Both Peng–Robinson (PR) and perturbed-chain SAFT (PCSAFT) were investigated. The relationship between the parameters in PR and PCSAFT was exhibited. Strong linear function of the volume parameter mσ3 in PCSAFT with covolume parameter b in PR were found, as well as the energy parameter mε2 in PCSAFT with energy parameter a/b in PR. This correlated characteristic provides an idea for regressing pure substance parameters and a criterion whether the regressed parameters are reasonable or not. The interaction parameters in PR-VDW and PCSAFT show consistent tendency, and both are limited to a very narrow range. The simple predictive method was proposed by using the average value 0.146 for PR-VDW and 0.093 for PCSAFT. The internal correlated behaviors result that the PCSAFT equation is no better than PR equation on the VLE description of CxHy + CxHyFz systems.

Abstract Objective: To investigate the region for the epidemic area of tsutsugamushi disease.
Methods: Epidemiological studies, Orientia tsutsugamushi isolation, and preventive measures were used.
Results: The region belonged to epidemic area of south subtropical zone. The main host was found Rattus norvegicu. The main biological vector was Leptotrombidium deliens. The seasonal trends of the quantity of Rattus norvegicu and Leptotrombidium deliens were consistent with the incidence change of the disease in the region. Orientia tsutsugamushi has been isolated from Rattus norvegicu and Leptotrombidium deliens. Data showed that Orientia tsutsugamushi isolated strains mainly belongs to Karp. Sero-epidemiological data showed that antibodies of Orientia tsutsugamushi are 100.0% positive in the residents of the region and 4.0% in army men. After taking comprehensive preventive measures, the incidence was descending.
Conclusion: Nan Peng Lie island was proved an epidemic area of tsutsugamushi disease.

Abstract A 30 m.y. stable isotopic record of marine-deposited black carbon from regional terrestrial biomass burning from the northern South China Sea reveals photosynthetic pathway evolution for terrestrial ecosystems in the late Cenozoic. This record indicates that C3 plants negatively adjusted their isotopic discrimination and C4 plants appeared gradually as a component of land vegetation in East Asia since the early Miocene, a long time before sudden C4 expansion occurred during the late Miocene to the Pliocene. The changes in terrestrial ecosystems with time can be reasonably related to the evolution of East Asian monsoons, which are thought to have been induced by several intricate mechanisms during the late Cenozoic and could contribute significantly to the post-Miocene marine carbonate isotope decline.

Abstract Recent studies reveal that de novo gene origination from previously non-genic sequences is a common mechanism for gene innovation. These young genes provide an opportunity to study the structural and functional origins of proteins. Here, we combine high-quality base-level whole-genome alignments and computational structural modeling to study the origination, evolution, and protein structures of lineage-specific de novo genes. We identify 555 de novo gene candidates in D. melanogaster that originated within the Drosophilinae lineage. Sequence composition, evolutionary rates, and expression patterns indicate possible gradual functional or adaptive shifts with their gene ages. Surprisingly, we find little overall protein structural changes in candidates from the Drosophilinae lineage. We identify several candidates with potentially well-folded protein structures. Ancestral sequence reconstruction analysis reveals that most potentially well-folded candidates are often born well-folded. Single-cell RNA-seq analysis in testis shows that although most de novo gene candidates are enriched in spermatocytes, several young candidates are biased towards the early spermatogenesis stage, indicating potentially important but less emphasized roles of early germline cells in the de novo gene origination in testis. This study provides a systematic overview of the origin, evolution, and protein structural changes of Drosophilinae-specific de novo genes.
