Title translation Effect of carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus nutrition on the R, S, and M dissociants of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in mixed cultures.
Abstract The effect of glucose, nitrate, and phosphate on the stationary-phase growth characteristics of R, S, and M dissociants of the hydrocarbon-oxidizing strain P. aeruginosa K-2 was studied. The optimal concentrations of glucose and phosphate providing for at least 90% of the maximal culture density were found to be 2-7% glucose and 0.02-0.12% phosphate. The main factor that determined the proportion of dissociants in bacterial populations was the initial concentration of phosphate. The fraction of R dissociant in populations increased linearly with the concentration of glucose and varied nonlinearly with the concentration of phosphate in the growth medium. The fraction of M dissociant depended solely on the concentration of phosphate in a manner inverse to that typical of R dissociant. In glucose-deficient media containing sufficient amounts of phosphorus, S dissociant prevailed over R dissociant.

Abstract RNA interference is a gene silencing mechanism that plays an important role in genetic regulation in a number of eukaryotes. Argonaute (AGO) proteins are central to the complex RNA interference system. However, their role in this mechanism, both in the host plant organism and in the pathogen, has not yet been fully elucidated. In this work, we identified and phylogenetically analyzed the SnAGO1, SnAGO2, SnAGO3, and SnAGO18 genes of the pathogenic fungus Stagonospora nodorum Berk., and analyzed their expression under conditions of infection of plants with varying degrees of resistance to the pathogen. The expression level against the background of plant immunization with the resistance inducers salicylic and jasmonic acids was assessed. In addition, the activity of these genes in the culture of the fungus in vitro was studied under the direct influence of resistance inducers on the mycelium of the fungus. Earlier activation of the SnAGO genes in in vitro culture under the influence of salicylic and jasmonic acids suggests their sensitivity to it. In an in vivo system, plant immunization to induce the accumulation of pathogen SnAGO transcripts was found. At the same time, the SnAGO genes of the fungus S. nodorum, when interacting with plant cells, reacted depending on the degree of host resistance: the highest level of transcripts in the resistant variety was observed. Thus, our data prove that the SnAGO genes of the fungus S. nodorum effectively interact with the host defense system in direct proportion to the degree of resistance of the latter to the pathogen. It was proposed to use the ratio of the transcriptional activity of the fungal reference gene SnTub to the host TaRLI gene as a marker of disease development in the initial period of the infectious process.

Abstract The purpose of this study is to enhance the empirical and theoretical understanding of the local aspects of resilience, which makes it possible to assess resilience levels in rural communities in the Russian North under new economic conditions. The study shows that during the Soviet era, the state provided economic support to sustain the viability of northern villages. As a result of the market reforms of the past century, most collective and state farms fell into decline, which led to labor migration. Despite negative demographic trends, the difficult economic situation, and limited transportation access, there is still a permanent resident population in northern villages. Based on the theory of resilience, methodological approaches to its assessment, and the results of field studies conducted in villages located on the island and coastal territories of the Primorsky district in the Arkhangelsk region between 2017 and 2022, the authors identify factors that determine the resilience of rural communities in the new economic conditions. These include location, local economy, and social capital. Indicators were established for each of the factors to propose a methodology for their assessment. As a result, an integrated resilience index was calculated for rural communities in the island and coastal territories of the Primorsky district in the Arkhangelsk region. It is concluded that the assessment of resilience levels of rural communities can provide information about society’s preparedness to face external challenges and identify which resources (economic, social, or natural) are robust or vulnerable. The novelty of the research lies in considering resilience as a new research paradigm for studying social systems and validating a methodology for its assessment based on qualitative indicators. The results of the study can be used to develop new strategies for the social and economic progress of rural areas and specific plans to facilitate the adaptation of rural residents in the Russian North to emerging economic ...

Title translation Influence of aeration and phosphorus concentration in the medium on growth of S-, R- and M-forms of Mycobacterium lacticolum in mixed cultures.
Abstract S, R and M forms of Mycobacterium lacticolum were compared. The cells of the R form had the highest requirement in aeration and phosphorus, whereas the cells of the M form, the lowest requirement. The content of oxygen in the medium and the concentration of phosphorus almost did not affect the viriability of these forms. On a medium containing n-hexadecane, the cells of the R form possessed selective advantages under favourable growth conditions, i.e. when the content of oxygen and phosphorus in the medium was high, whereas the cells of the M form had selective advantages under unfavourable conditions of growth when it decelerated as a result of a low concentration of oxygen and phosphorus in the medium. These correlations changed on a medium containing carbohydrates.

Abstract Flavodiiron proteins Flv1/Flv3 accept electrons from photosystem (PS) I. In this work we investigated light adaptation mechanisms of Flv1-deficient mutant of Synechocystis PCC 6803, incapable to form the Flv1/Flv3 heterodimer. First seconds of dark-light transition were studied by parallel measurements of light-induced changes in chlorophyll fluorescence, P700 redox transformations, fluorescence emission at 77 K, and OCP-dependent fluorescence quenching. During the period of Calvin cycle activation upon dark-light transition, the linear electron transport (LET) in wild type is supported by the Flv1/Flv3 heterodimer, whereas in Δflv1 mutant activation of LET upon illumination is preceded by cyclic electron flow that maintains State 2. The State 2-State 1 transition and Orange Carotenoid Protein (OCP)-dependent non-photochemical quenching occur independently of each other, begin in about 10 s after the illumination of the cells and are accompanied by a short-term re-reduction of the PSI reaction center (P700

Abstract Objective: The goal of our article was to systematise studies that investigated the impact of living conditions in large national regions on individual alcohol consumption.
Methods: The objectives of the scoping review, the criteria and methods for selecting articles were defined in advance and recorded in the protocol PROSPERO CRD42021234874. We sought publications on the research topic in PubMed, Google Scholar, OpenGrey, Crossref and eLibrary databases from the moment they were created until December 31, 2021. The final sample included 81 publications.
Results: The majority of ultimately selected papers were published after 2010 (62 articles), represented the USA (68 articles), and considered samples of children and youths, either the younger population or the general adult population (65 articles). High quality was characteristic for 19 studies, whereas satisfactory quality was exhibited by 46 publications. The most consistent associations with individual alcohol consumption were revealed for the legislative environment (especially for integral scales and indices), alcohol pricing policy, the prevalence of alcohol consumption and binge drinking in the population, and unemployment rate.
Conclusion: The review made it possible to systematise the results of studies on the impact of the characteristics of large national regions on alcohol consumption, including a description of these characteristics and results, samples and designs of studies, their quality, as well as to summarise the results of these studies.

Abstract Introduction Hypertension is the most common cardiovascular disease (CVD) and a major cause of premature death. Study of age/gender-related and social aspects of the disease, and the assessment of the efficacy of antihypertensive treatment are essential elements of the epidemiological monitoring of hypertension and support a reasonable approach to planning further therapeutic and preventive interventions. Objective Assess the prevalence of hypertension in the working-age population, examine the relationship between hypertension patterns and level of education of respondents taking into account age, gender, and the main aspects of lifestyle.Materials and Methods The study included industrial workers who underwent a routine medical examination in September-November 2015. A total of 2432 subjects (59% males and 41% of females) were surveyed. The study design is cross-sectional, analytic. Methods used: anonymous questionnaire surveys using the WHO STEPS questionnaire, anthropometric measurements, BP measurement. Questions about hypertension included awareness of the presence of the disease and the administration of antihypertensive drugs. Hypertension was diagnosed with systolic blood pressure (SBP) ≥140 mm Hg and/or diastolic blood pressure (DBP) ≥90 mm Hg, or in the case of the administration of antihypertensive drugs. The efficacy of treatment was assessed by the percentage of patients who had reached the target BP values (<140/90 mm Hg), including treated with antihypertensive drugs. The control of hypertension was judged by the percentage of patients with the target BP levels among all respondents with hypertension. Results Hypertension was diagnosed in 40% of the study subjects. The disease was more prevalent in males (odds ratio (OR) = 1.21), overweight, and obese patients (OR = 2.5) and less prevalent in subjects with higher education (OR = 0.6). No significant association of lifestyle (smoking, alcohol abuse, eating fruits and vegetables, physical activity) with the prevalence of hypertension was revealed. 76% of respondents with hypertension knew about their disease (51% among those who did not take antihypertensive drugs). Awareness was higher in patients with severe hypertension (OR = 2.5), overweight and obese patients (OR = 1.96), and respondents with higher education (OR = 1.55), being significantly lower in males (OR = 0.44). 50% of respondents with hypertension (52% of those with severe hypertension) took antihypertensive drugs with males twice less often than females (OR = 0.49). The target BP levels were detected in 39% of patients taking antihypertensive drugs, less frequently in males (OR = 0.63) and overweight patients (OR = 0.48), and significantly more frequently in patients with higher education (OR = 2.28), regardless their lifestyle. Conclusion The prevalence of hypertension in working patients was 40%. Males were more likely to suffer hypertension and less aware of their disease. The target blood pressure levels were less frequently observed in males during the treatment. On the other hand, patients with higher education had a lower prevalence of hypertension, significantly higher awareness of the disease and efficacy of the treatment than those who had secondary or primary school education. Overall, the study confirmed that the sample of industrial workers could be a reliable source for monitoring hypertension. The significant gender differences and an independent protective effect of the level of education were identified in the epidemiology of hypertension, which should be taken into account in further studies.

Abstract RETRACTED ARTICLERational antihypertensive therapy is effective in the prevention of cardiovascular events and progression of organ damage. When choosing an antihypertensive drug to evaluate the efficacy the likelihood of side effects and benefits of the drug in a clinical situation. The article shows the feasibility of using long-acting drugs to prevent the increase in blood pressure variability during the day, the lack of a sharp rise in blood pressure in the morning and at the same time to prevent episodes of sharp decrease in blood pressure. Gradual and sustained normalization of blood pressure reduces the incidence of myocardial infarction, death from cardiovascular disease, recurrent stroke.
