Abstract Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) raised many questions needing answers in order to overcome the disease burden globally. Uncertainty about COVID-19 contributes to the complexity of the burden on the health, social, economic, and cultural influences of COVID-19. In this context, all related disciplines are working together to mitigate the negative influences of the disease. In particular, health promotion, a discipline of public health, matters to the pandemic as it may address the threats at different levels. Health promotion strategies mostly use solution-oriented efforts with inter- and multidisciplinary approaches. Nevertheless, as the COVID-19 burden has many time-critical determinants, these approaches cannot be sufficient to overcome the problem. A transdisciplinary approach in its broader sense using almost all inputs to synthesize and produce an integrative solution may be extremely helpful. In this paper, the importance of transdisciplinary approaches in health promotion to combat COVID-19 has been discussed.

Abstract Background: One Health is a multisectoral and interdisciplinary concept that acknowledges the interconnections between people, animals and their shared environments. Understanding the views of physicians and veterinarians may help promote One Health principles.
Aim: To assess the knowledge and perceptions of physicians and veterinarians about One Health in Türkiye.
Methods: This was a descriptive mixed-methods study among 74 doctors and 221 veterinarians in Türkiye. Quantitative data were collected through a questionnaire sent by email to members of the Ankara Chambers of Medicine and the Ankara Chambers of Veterinary Medicine. Qualitative data were obtained through focus group discussions with boards of directors of both chambers. Recordings were transcribed and the data were categorized in line with the questionnaire. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 23.0.
Results: Few (6.3%) of the veterinarians had not heard about One Health while majority of the physicians (63.5%) had not heard about it (P < 0.001). Most of the physicians (95.9%) and veterinarians (71.5%) had not received training on One Health; significantly more veterinarians had received training (P < 0.001). Most of the veterinarians (73.3%) and a few physicians (35.1%) had applied One Health in their work (P < 0.001). Although participants mentioned other disciplines related to One Health, they had not been involved in any cooperative or collaborative work relating to these disciplines.
Conclusion: The application of One Health principles by the physicians and veterinarians was limited, and few of them had collaborated with other disciplines during their practice. Joint training and further professional and educational integration are needed in Türkiye to support the implementation of One Health.

Abstract Introduction Tobacco related diseases and its global control is among prior issues of public health science. Recent threats also known as “new” products including e-cigarette, heated tobacco products, etc raise also “new” questions to be answered. Integrating ethical discussion(s) to the issue will probably widen the perspective(s) to protect the people from the risks of tobacco burden. In this presentation, it was aimed to understand how (public health) ethics discussed “harm reduction” using one scientific database. Material and Methods “Pubmed” was searched on 28th of January, 2019 with the keywords “ethics” AND “harm reduction”. Total number of the articles accessed were 111. Publications were limited to the last five years (2014-2018). All of the abstracts were read and 98 articles were out of the scope because the articles were in other topic/content rather than tobacco. Only 13 articles were related with “ethics and (tobacco) harm reduction”. Using only one dataset with two keywords were major limitations. Preliminary results Unfortunately, majority of the articles supported “harm reduction” practice(s). No comparisons were done with the non-smokers conflicting with the public health ethics perspective. “Unclear” aspect of harm reduction was only the issue of a couple of articles, thus, no strong recommendation for eliminating tobacco smoking was raised. Conclusions Ethics/public health ethics approach needs to highlight the importance of precautionary principles in harm reduction related discussion(s) clearly. Unfortunately, in the current accessed articles, such clear messages are thought to be missing. We should not forget that tobacco-free life is a basic human right for all without any discrimination.

Abstract Objective: This parallel-group randomized controlled study evaluated the effect of the hand massage practiced using baby oil with lavender on reducing pain and situational anxiety in women with brachytherapy.
Methods: The study was completed with 36 patients. The treatment group included 18 patients, and the control group had 18. The data were collected through patient information form, visual analog scale, and state anxiety scale. Before the brachytherapy, three sessions of hand massages, each lasting 10 min (5 min for each hand), were performed using baby oil with lavender. Data collection forms were repeated after each session. The control group received routine treatment. Study groups were similar and homogeneous in terms of socio-demographic characteristics. The data obtained were assessed using Shapiro Wilk, Repeated Measures ANOVA, chi-square, and paired samples t-test.
Results: At the end of the brachytherapy, the pain and state anxiety scores of the group that applied hand massage   were determined to be lower than the control group's at each three-time point (1st, 2nd
Conclusion: It was determined that hand massage using baby oil with lavender effectively reduced pain and anxiety. It can be practiced by certified nurses in clinics that perform brachytherapy as a noninvasive, safe, and affordable practice.

Abstract The aims of this study were to determine surface urban heat island (SUHI) effects and to analyze the land use/land cover (LULC) and land surface temperature (LST) changes for 11 time periods from the years 2002 to 2020 using Landsat time series images. Bursa, which is the fourth largest metropolitan city in Turkey, was selected as the study area, and Landsat multi-temporal images of the summer season were used. Firstly, the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), soil-adjusted vegetation index (SAVI), modified normalized difference water index (MNDWI) and index-based built-up index (IBI) were created using the bands of Landsat images, and LULC classes were determined by applying automatic thresholding. The LST values were calculated using thermal images and SUHI effects were determined. The results show that NDVI, SAVI, MNDWI and IBI indices can be used effectively for the determination of the urban, vegetation and water LULC classes for SUHI studies, with overall classification accuracies between 89.60% and 95.90% for the used images. According to the obtained results, generally the LST values increased for almost all land cover areas between the years 2002 and 2020. The SUHI magnitudes were computed by using two methods, and it was found that there was an important increase in the 18-year time period.

Abstract Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) has emerged as a well-established treatment option for eligible patients with severe aortic stenosis. This study aimed to investigate the correlation between abdominal fat tissue volumes, measured using computed tomography (CT), and all-cause mortality in patients undergoing TAVR. The study included 258 consecutive patients who underwent TAVR at a single center between September 2017 and November 2020. During the preoperative preparation, CT scans were used to perform a semi-quantitative measurement of abdominal fat components. Body mass index (BMI) for each participant was calculated. The relationship between fat parameters and overall survival was determined using multivariable Cox proportional hazards models. Participants had a mean age of 76.8 ± 7.8 years, of whom 32.9% were male. The median follow-up period was 12 months, during which 38 patients (14.7%) died. Both the survivor and non-survivor groups showed comparable risk factors. Regarding transabdominal fat volume parameters, deceased individuals exhibited significantly lower values. However, no significant differences were observed in BMI and transabdominal area measurements. Among transabdominal fat parameters, only subcutaneous fat volume [adjusted Hazard Ratio (aHR) = 0.83, p = 0.045] and total fat volume (TFV) [aHR = 0.82, p = 0.007] were identified as significant predictors of reduced all-cause mortality. Furthermore, TFV demonstrated the highest discriminative performance with a threshold of ≤ 9.1 L (AUC = 0.751, p < 0.001, sensitivity 71.1%, specificity 70.9%). Preoperative CT-based abdominal fat volume parameters, particularly TFV, can serve as potential predictors of survival in patients undergoing TAVR.
