Abstract INTRODUCTION: With 7 primary genotypes and more than 100 subgroups, the hepatitis C virus (HCV) exhibits considerable genetic variability. Due to changes in genotype rates brought on by population migrations, epidemiology data must be updated regularly. This article's aims are to present HCV genotype data, investigate the link between age and gender, and establish the genotype distribution in relation to risk variables. METHODS: Between 2017 and 2021, 95 HCV patients were included in this retrospective, single-center investigation. Anti HCV, HCV RNA polymerase chain reaction results (PCR) and HCV genotype status of the patients were recorded. Abbott Real Time HCV Genotype II genotyping kit was used for HCV genotyping of patients with positive HCV RNA PCR test. RESULTS: 56 (59%) male and 39 (41%) female patients were included in the study. When both genders were examined, it was discovered that genotype 1b (65.3%) was the most common genotype. The least frequent genotypes among the patients were genotype 2 (2.1%) and genotype 4 (2.1%). Regarding HCV genotype type and gender, no statistically meaningful variation was found. However, the evaluation made in terms of genotype type and age showed a statistically significant difference (p 0.001). The most common possible transmission route of the patients was the presence of surgical operation (45.3%), and genotype 1b was the most common in this group. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: Determination of HCV genotypes and transmission routes and regular reporting of regional data will contribute to epidemiological data. This will guide the development of health policies for HCV and the elimination of HCV.

Abstract Purpose: This study was performed with the aim of assessing the effect of music therapy and hand massage on pain, fear and stress among 12-18 year-old adolescents treated in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU).
Design: This study was a randomized controlled trial, with single-blind design.
Methods: The adolescents were divided into groups with 33 receiving hand massage, 33 receiving music therapy and 33 in the control group. Collection of data used the Wong-Baker FACES (WB-FACES) Pain Rating Scale, Children's Fear Scale (CFS) and blood cortisol levels.
Findings: In the study, adolescents in the music therapy group had lower mean points for WB-FACES before, during and after the procedure by a significant level compared to the control group (p < 0.05). Additionally, the CFS mean points before and during the procedure were lowest in the music therapy group, while the music therapy and massage groups were determined to have lower points by a significant level after the procedure compared to the control group (p < 0.05). However, when the mean cortisol levels of adolescents before the procedure and on the 1st and 2nd day after the procedure were compared, there was no significant difference between the groups (p > 0.05).
Conclusions: It was determined that hand massage and music therapy were more effective than standard care at reducing pain and fear levels during blood drawing among 12-18-year-old adolescents in the PICU.
Practice implications: Nurses may use music therapy and hand massage to manage fear and pain related to blood drawing in the PICU.

Abstract Background: Mothers' lack of information about crying spells in infantile colic and feeling of insufficiency create anxiety in mothers, a decrease in satisfaction with being a mother and make them feel insufficient and tired. Fatigue in breastfeeding mothers can also lead to changes in milk biology and cause insufficient milk secretion.
Methods: This study aims to determine the perceived breast milk insufficiency of mothers of infants with infantile colic and mothers of healthy infants. Mothers of infants aged three weeks to six months who were diagnosed with infantile colic (N.=162) and were healthy (N.=162), were admitted to the Pediatric Polyclinic of a hospital, comprised the target population of the case-controlled study. The Infant Colic Scale (ICS) and Perception of Insufficient Milk Supply (PIM) were used as data collection tools.
Results: The PIM score averages of the case and control group mothers were compared and the case group mothers had a significantly higher perception of insufficient milk (P<0.05). However, as a result of a correlation analysis between the ICS total and the subscale score average of the case group infants and the PIM Scale total score average of the mothers, no significant correlation was found (P>0.05).
Conclusions: As a result of the study, there was a significant difference between the milk insufficiency perceptions of the case and control group mothers. However, no significant correlation was found between the infantile colic score of the case group infants and insufficient milk perception of the mothers.

Abstract Background: Supporting the development of feeding skills among preterm infants is an important component of neonatal care. The selection of appropriate and supportive feeding interventions begins with a comprehensive assessment of the infant's skills.
Purpose: This study aimed to adapt the Infant-Driven Feeding Scales© (IDFS) to the Turkish language.
Methods: This was a methodological, observational, single-center cross-sectional study. The study included 80 infants born at a gestational age ≥ 32 weeks, consecutively admitted to a tertiary Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Research data were collected using a premature infant descriptive information form (IDIF), IDFS, and LATCH Score for Breastfeeding Assessment. For the Turkish validity-reliability of the IDF, the translate-back translate method was used with the content validity index (CVI) assessed.
Results: The scale had CVI values between 0.90 and 1.00 with a mean CVI = 0.96. For measures 1 and 2, there were significant positive and high-level correlations between IFDS-R and IFDS-Q correlation values (r = 0.553-0.958; p = 0.001) and significant negative, low-level correlations between IFDS-R and IFDS-Q with the LATCH scale (r = 0.439-0.532; p = 0.001). According to inter-observer compatibility analyses, the kappa value was 0.94-1.00 for the first measure and 0.96-1.00 for the second measure (p = 0.001). There were negative significant correlations between IDFS-R points with gestational age and postmenstrual age (PMA) (p = 0.001), and gestational age and PMA were explanatory factors for 13.8% of IDFS-R points (F = 7.30, p = 0.001).
Conclusions: The IDFS is recommended for use as a valid and reliable tool to ease the safe and successful development of oral feeding skills in preterm infants and to plan evidence-based interventions.
Implications for practice: The IDFS appears to be a beneficial measurement device for use in assessing the state of readiness of preterm infants for oral feeding and for early determination of risks that may occur due to delayed feeding independence of infants.

Abstract Background and study aims: The current study aimed to investigate the frequency of hepatic steatosis in chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients and determine the possible risk factors associated with its presence.
Patients and methods: This cross-sectional study retrospectively evaluated the medical records of 255 adult CHB patients visiting an infectious disease outpatient clinic. Patients with hepatitis B surface antigen positivity for >6 months and those who did not receive antiviral therapy were included in the study. The presence and stage of hepatic steatosis were determined through hepatobiliary ultrasonography.
Results: The mean age of the patients was 40.6 ± 12.7 years. Hepatic steatosis was detected in 44.4 % of the patients through ultrasound imaging. Our findings showed that the detected steatosis prevalence in our patients with CHB was significantly higher compared to the highest prevalence of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis found in the general Turkish population (19.9 %) [RR 2.23 (1.75-2.86), p < 0.001]. CHB patients with steatosis had significantly higher age, triglyceride, and gamma-glutamyl transferase levels than those without steatosis (p < 0.05). No significant association was found between the presence of steatosis, sex, liver function test results, and platelet, alkaline phosphatase, cholesterol, alpha fetoprotein, or HBV-DNA levels. No significant relationship was found between aspartate aminotransferase (AST)/platelet ratio index (APRI) and steatosis was examined (p > 0.05). Post-hoc analysis showed a significant relationship between HBV-DNA levels and ALT, AST, and APRI scores.
Conclusion: Our data showed that hepatic steatosis is more common in CHB patients than in the general population. Older age and high triglyceride levels increased the risk of hepatic steatosis in CHB patients, consequently increasing GGT levels, which are indicative of liver damage, in these patients.

Abstract Objective:It was aimed to investigate the clinical and laboratory changes in complicated and uncomplicated brucellosis cases.Method:Within the scope of the study, 268 brucellosis patients (aged ≥18 years) hospitalized in the infectious diseases unit or seen in outpatient clinics were evaluated retrospectively. The complicated and uncomplicated brucellosis cases were assessed. Results:In the study, 268 brucellosis patients were evaluated and it was observed that 80.7% of the patients consumed fresh cheese. Also, 93.2, 90.8, 88.8 and 84% of the cases had symptoms such as arthralgia, weakness, sweating and fever, respectively. Anemia, leukopenia, leukocytosis, thrombocytopenia and increased C-reactive protein (CRP) were also detected in 25.9, 4.9, 7.2, 9.2 and 60.2% of patients, respectively. It was found that 32.4% of the patients developed complications, and the complications were osteoarticular in 59 patients (67.8%), genitourinary in 17 (19.5%) and hematological in three (3.44%) cases. The complications were more common in male patients. CRP and neutrophil/lymphocyte ratios (NLR) were also found higher in complicated cases. Conclusion:Since values such as gender, CRP and NLR were significantly different in complicated brucellosis cases from the noncomplicated group, it is considered that a significant increase may have been detected in infection parameters due to the longer exposure time to the microorganism. For this reason, early detection of complications and timely diagnosis play a vital role to improve the prognosis.

Abstract Background: Breast cancer is a common cancer with high mortality rates. Early diagnosis is crucial for reducing the prognosis and mortality rates. Therefore, the development of alternative treatment options is necessary.
Objective: This study aimed to investigate the inhibitory effect of N-acetyl-D-glucosamine (D-GlcNAc) on breast cancer using a machine learning method. The findings were further confirmed through assays on breast cancer cell lines.
Methods: MCF-7 and 4T1 cell lines (ATCC) were cultured in the presence and absence of varying concentrations of D-GlcNAc (0.5 mM, 1 mM, 2 mM, and 4 mM) for 72 hours. A xenograft mouse model for breast cancer was established by injecting 4T1 cells into mammary glands. D-GlcNAc (2 mM) was administered intraperitoneally to mice daily for 28 days, and histopathological effects were evaluated at pre-tumoral and post-tumoral stages.
Results: Treatment with 2 mM and 4 mM D-GlcNAc significantly decreased cell proliferation rates in MCF-7 and 4T1 cell lines and increased Fas expression. The number of apoptotic cells was significantly higher than untreated cell cultures (p < 0.01 - p < 0.0001). D-GlcNAc administration also considerably reduced tumour size, mitosis, and angiogenesis in the post-treatment group compared to the control breast cancer group (p < 0.01 - p < 0.0001). Additionally, molecular docking/dynamic analysis revealed a high binding affinity of D-GlcNAc to the marker protein HER2, which is involved in tumour progression and cell signalling.
Conclusion: Our study demonstrated the positive effect of D-GlcNAc administration on breast cancer cells, leading to increased apoptosis and Fas expression in the malignant phenotype. The binding affinity of D-GlcNAc to HER2 suggests a potential mechanism of action. These findings contribute to understanding D-GlcNAc as a potential anti-tumour agent for breast cancer treatment.

Abstract Aim: Clinical studies indicate that there is an association between high levels of thyroid autoantibodies and psychiatric disorders, independent of impairment of thyroid function. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the association between thyroid autoimmunity and mood disorders in euthyroid girls with Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) in a case-control study.
Material and methods: We recruited 82 participants: 41 pubertal female patients with thyroiditis from endocrine outpatient clinics and a control group of 41 healthy pubertal girls from the University Hospital. Age ranged from 12 to 18 years; the diagnosis of HT was based on high levels of anti-TPO and/or anti-Tg antibodies associated with a hypoechogenic or normal thyroid ultrasound pattern. Other comorbidities known to affect mental and physical health were exclusion factors. All participants underwent a complete thyroid evaluation, assays of serum-free T4, TSH, anti-TPO antibodies, anti-Tg antibodies, and thyroid ultrasonography. They were then referred to a child psychiatrist. A psychiatric diagnosis was made in two steps. First, the Children's Depression Inventory (CDI) and Screen for Child Anxiety-Related Emotional Disorders (SCARED) tests were implemented according to the DSM-IV diagnostic criteria to be calculated. Second, the same psychiatrist conducted a K-SADS-PL semi-structured interview while unaware of the children's data.
Results: There was no significant difference in CDI score between patients with and without HT (
Conclusion: This study described severe psychometric impairment in patients with euthyroid HT. We have demonstrated that autoimmune thyroid diseases, even in a euthyroid state, are associated with psychiatric disorders.
