Abstract Ovarian cancer (OC) ranks as the eighth most prevalent malignancy among women globally. The short non-coding RNA molecules, microRNAs (miRNAs) target multiple mRNAs and regulate the gene expression. Here in this study, we aimed to validate miR-3135b and miR-1273g-3p as novel biomarkers for prognostic and diagnostic factor OC. After RNA isolation, we analyzed the miR-3135b and miR-1273g-3p expression in peripheral blood samples derived from 150 OC patients. Subsequently, we compared their expression levels with 100 healthy controls. The differences of miR-3135b and miR-1273g-3p expression were detected using the Quantitative Real Time-PCR (qRT-PCR) technique following miRNA-specific cDNA synthesis pursing miRNA separation. The miR-3135b and miR-1273g-3p were higher in OC patients who tested positive for BRCA1/2 compared to BRCA-negative patients, and healthy cases. The level of miR-3135b demonstrated a roughly 4.82-fold increase in OC patients in comparison to the healthy cases, while miR-1273g-3p expression exhibited a roughly 6.77-fold increase. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis has demonstrated the potential of miR-3135b and miR-1273g-3p as markers for distinguishing between OC patients and healthy controls. The higher expressions of miR-3135b and miR-1273g-3p could be associated with OC development. Moreover, miR-3135b may have a diagnostic potential and miR-1273g-3p may have both diagnostic and prognostic potential in OC cell differentiation. The string analysis has revealed an association between miR-1273g-3p and the MDM2 gene, suggesting a potential link to tumor formation through the proteasomal degradation of the TP53 tumor suppressor gene. Additionally, the analysis indicates an association of miR-1273g-3p with CHEK1, a gene involved in checkpoint-mediated cell cycle arrest. String analysis also indicates that miR-3135b is associated with the MAPK1 gene, causing activation of the oncogenesis cascade. In conclusion, miR-1273g-3p, and miR-3135b exhibit significant potential as ...

Abstract Objective: Impaired arterial elastic features is one of the earliest manifestations of atherosclerosis in the vessel wall and is associated with the development of cardiovascular disease and increased mortality and morbidity. In this study, we aimed to investigate the mean values of aortic elasticity parameters in a normotensive population with transthoracic echocardiography and to evaluate these values in different age groups and their relationship with other risk factors.
Methods: This retrospective study included 405 subjects who met the inclusion criteria among 2880 individuals screened between 2020 and 2022. The study population was divided into 5 groups according to their age. Aortic elasticity parameters (aortic strain, aortic stiffness index, and aortic distensibility) were calculated from the associated formulas by measurements made from the ascending aorta in the parasternal long axis.
Results: In 405 subjects (mean age 42.18 ± 10.39, 54.3% female), the mean aortic strain value was 15.14 ± 3.56%, the mean aortic stiffness index was 3.24 ± 1.05, and the mean aortic distensibility was 7.48 ± 2.36 cm2/dyn1/103. It was observed that aortic strain and distensibility values significantly decreased with increasing age groups, while aortic stiffness significantly increased. All 3 aortic elasticity parameters were strongly correlated to age. In the multivariate linear regression analysis, age was found to be an independent factor for all aortic elasticity parameters.
Conclusion: Aortic elasticity parameters can be evaluated with transthoracic echocardiography in daily practice. Comparing these measurements with normal values in similar age groups may help to detect patients with increased cardiovascular risk in the early period, regardless of the other risk factors.

Abstract Objective: Ovarian cysts compose most of the intraabdominal cysts in fetal period. Most of them regress spontaneously at intrauterine or postnatal period. The cysts that are complicated and do not regress are excised generally.
Methods: Here we report a case series that consists of four newborns having giant (≥ 10 cm) ovarian cysts. All of the patients were term infants and followed for ovarian cysts in intrauterine period.
Results: Patients were operated on 5, 11, 28, 47th days, respectively. Three patients had unilateral cysts (two right, one left) and one had bilateral cysts. One of the four patients had bilateral ovarian cysts, 100 × 95 mm in diameter on the left and 50 × 55 mm on the right, which was torsioned.
Conclusion: The risk of complications is higher in bilateral cysts even they are smaller, and early surgical intervention should be done to these patients. During the operation of one of the patients, we detected the cyst at the opposite side that was shown by ultrasonography. Since the size of the mass is large, detecting the correct origin of the cyst is important for the selection of appropriate surgical approach.

Abstract The aim of this study was to describe the QTc prolongation and related adverse cardiac events during the administration of hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) and its combinations for the treatment of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Hospitalized patients infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) who received HCQ and had initial and follow-up electrocardiograms performed between March 10 and May 30, 2020 were included. Critical QTc prolongation was detected in 12% of the patients. On multivariate analysis, diabetes mellitus (odds ratio 5.8, 95% confidence interval 1.11-30.32, p = 0.037) and the use of oseltamivir (odds ratio 5.3, 95% confidence interval 1.02-28, p = 0.047) were found to be associated with critical QTc prolongation.

Abstract Background: Different methods can be used in the surgical treatment of patients with rhinophyma. There are limited numbers of reports on high-frequency electrosurgery treatment. In addition, an efficient scoring system is required to evaluate severity of the disease in clinical progress and recurrence after treatment.
Objectives: We evaluated patients with rhinophyma who were treated with high-frequency electrosurgery and discussed the methods used to assess severity of the disease.
Methods: Data and photos of 13 patients were retrospectively evaluated and scored via 2 different forms of the rhinophyma severity index.
Results: Median rhinophyma severity index scores of patients at first visits were significantly higher than those at second and third visits ( P = .002 and P = .002, respectively). Likewise, median modified rhinophyma severity scores of patients at first visits were significantly higher than those at second and third visits ( P = .001 and P = .001, respectively). Also, there was a strong positive correlation between these 2 assessment methods ( r = 0.838, P < .001).
Conclusions: The rhinophyma severity assessment methods used in this study are positively correlated. High-frequency electrosurgery seems to be a procedure that is safe, effective, and relatively cost-effective in the treatment of rhinophyma lesions.
