Abstract Heterostructures find wide-ranging applications in fields such as thermal management, thermoelectric energy conversion, and nanoelectronics. This study provides new insights into the thermal conductivity of parallel heterointerfaces by investigating a longitudinal heterostructure composed of graphene and hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) using molecular dynamics simulations. Interestingly, it is observed that this unique heterostructure possesses a lower thermal conductivity compared to pure h-BN. The analysis reveals that phonon scattering is enhanced by stress at the interface of the heterostructure and the mass distribution through it. The heterostructure model introduced in this study presents new insights for controlling phonon transportation in nanoscale structures.

Abstract Background: Leber's idiopathic stellate neuroretinitis (LISN) is a rare disease characterized by disk edema, peripapillary and macular hard exudates, and often, the presence of vitreous cells. To enhance clinical understanding of the disease, a retrospective analysis was conducted on a patient diagnosed with LISN at our hospital, and discussions were held regarding its diagnosis and treatment.
Methods: We reviewed the medical records of a 26-year-old male patient whose main complaint was a decrease in visual acuity of both eyes for 4 days, which had worsened over the last day. After systemic examination, fundus fluorescein angiography, and indocyanine green angiography, the patient was diagnosed with LISN in both eyes. After treatment with glucocorticoids, the patient's vision showed a significant improvement.
Results: Upon admission, the visual acuity of both eyes was: VOD 0.05, VOS 0.25. After 5 days of treatment, the visual acuity of both eyes was: VOD 0.25, VOS 0.4. After 1 month of follow-up, the visual acuity of both eyes was: VOD 0.4, VOS 0.6. After 5 months of follow-up, the patient's vision improved to VOD 0.6, VOS 0.8.
Conclusion: The cause of LISN remains unidentified. It is essential to rule out diseases exhibiting similar clinical signs but possessing a clear etiology. The primary treatment approach involves glucocorticoid-based anti-inflammatory therapy, potentially supplemented with antibiotics, antivirals, vasodilators, and traditional Chinese medicine. This disease is usually self-limiting and generally carries a favorable prognosis.

Abstract Non-invasive, portable, economical, dynamic blood glucose monitoring device has become a functional requirement for diabetes in his regulating entire life. In a photoacoustic (PA) multispectral near-infrared diagnosis system, the glucose in aqueous solutions was excited by low power (order of milliwatts) CW laser whose wavelengths were from 1500 to 1630 nm. The glucose in aqueous solutions to be analyzed was contained within the photoacoustic cell (PAC). The PA multispectral signals were measured using a piezoelectric detector, and then the voltage signals from the piezoelectric detector were amplified with a precision Lock-in Amplifier (MFLI500K). The continuously tunable lasers were used to verify the various influencing factors of the PA signal, and the PA spectrum of the glucose solution was examined. Subsequently, six wavelengths with high power were selected at approximately equal intervals from 1500 to 1630 nm, and the gaussian process regression of the quadratic rational kernel was used to collect data through these wavelengths to predict the glucose concentration. The experimental results showed that the near-infrared PA multispectral diagnosis system could be engineered for the prediction of the glucose level (more than 92%, zone A of Clarke Error Grid). Subsequently, the model trained with glucose solution was used to predict serum glucose. With the increase of serum glucose content, the prediction results of the model also showed a high linear relationship, indicating that the photoacoustic method was sensitive to the detection of glucose concentration changes. The results of our study have the potential to not only better develop the PA blood glucose meter but also extend the viability into the detection of otherwise blood components.

Abstract We theoretically make plausible and numerically verify that when a high-efficiency, polarization-independent grating, designed to work at or near Littrow mounting, is used in conical Littrow mounting, its high efficiency and polarization independence can be very well maintained at a large off-principal-plane deviation angle. This finding provides a new degree of freedom to the design of high-efficiency, more compact spectral beam combining grating systems.

Abstract Objective: This study aimed to assess (1) the prevalence of COVID-19 in patients with hip fracture; (2) the mortality rate of patients with hip fracture associated with COVID-19; (3) risk factors associated with mortality in patients with hip fracture; and (4) the effects of COVID-19 on surgical outcomes of patients with hip fracture.
    Design: Meta-analysis.
Setting and participants: Patients with hip fractures during COVID-19.
Methods: PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase were systematically reviewed. The outcomes included the prevalence of COVID-19, case fatality rate, 30-day mortality, cause of death, risk factors associated with the mortality of patients with hip fracture, time to surgery, surgical time, and length of hospitalization. Risk ratio or weight mean difference with 95% confidence intervals were used to pool the estimates.
Results: A total of 60 studies were included in this meta-analysis. The pooled estimate showed that the prevalence of COVID-19 was 21% in patents with hip fractures. Patients with hip fracture with COVID-19 had an increased 30-day mortality risk compared with those without the infection. The main causes of death were respiratory failure, COVID-19-associated pneumonia, multiorgan failure, and non-COVID-19 pneumonia. The hospitalization was longer in patients with COVID-19 when compared with those without the infection, but was shorter in patients during the pandemic period. The surgery time and time to surgery were not significantly different between patients during or before the pandemic period and in those with or without COVID-19.
Conclusions and implications: The 30-day mortality rate was significantly higher in patients with hip fracture with COVID-19 infection than those without. Patients with COVID-19 had a higher all-cause mortality rate than those without. This information can be used by the medical community to guide the management of patients with hip fracture with COVID-19.

Abstract A 21-year-old patient with Crohn's disease, who was undergoing Infliximab treatment, presented at the hospital due to a painful oral mass. After confirming the absence of malignant cells through frozen sections, a complete excision of the infiltrated bone surrounding the lesion was performed. The postoperative pathology confirmed the presence of Central type giant cell granuloma in the mandible, which is distinct from non-caseating granulomas in oral CD and Infliximab-induced Sarcoidosis. As far as we are aware, this is the first to report an association between CGCG and both CD and anti-tumor necrosis factor therapy treatment.

Abstract Progesterone injection is oily because of its poor solubility. It is necessary to develop new dosage forms or delivery methods for Progesterone. Six cocrystals of Progesterone with nitrogen heterocyclic compounds (2,6-diaminopyridine, isonicotinamide, 4-aminopyridine, aminopyrazine, picolinamide and pyrazinamide) have been designed and prepared by ethyl acetate-assisted grinding, of which four cocrystals (2,6-diaminopyridine, isonicotinamide, 4-aminopyridine and aminopyrazine) had single crystal data in 1:1 stoichiometry. Metadynamics-genetic crossing was used to search and optimize various cluster structures to explain the reason the other two cocrystals could not be obtained with suitable size for single crystal X-ray diffraction. In contrast to the carboxyl group, the amide group and amino group were good substituents in the pyridine/pyrazine ring for cocrystallization with Progesterone, which meant inductive effect played an important role in nitrogen heterocyclic compounds containing reactive hydrogen. All cocrystals were more soluble than Progesterone in water, and Progesterone-pyrazinamide cocystal featured the best water solubility performance with an approximately six-fold increase over free Progesterone. This successful attempt provides an effective route for designing and manufacturing novel solid states of Progesterone.

Abstract Rationale: Gastrointestinal hemolymphangiomas are very rare, especially in the rectum. Only 3 cases of rectal hemolymphangioma, all of which are diffuse lesions, have been reported in the English literature on PubMed. Our case is the first focal lesion of the rectum. It is important for radiologists to correctly identify the imaging features of rectal hemolymphangiomas.
Patient concerns: A 51-year-old woman visited our hospital because of intermittent constipation for 3 years.
Diagnoses: Colonoscopy revealed a prominent lesion on the left anterior wall of the lower rectum. Transvaginal color Doppler ultrasonography showed that the posterior vaginal wall area had a mixed-echo mass, and blood flow signals of the dots and stripes could be seen. Pelvic magnetic resonance imaging showed that the cystic space-occupying lesion in the region between the left anterior wall of the lower rectum and the posterior wall of the middle and lower vagina had a clear boundary.
Interventions: The patient underwent surgery to remove the rectal lesions. The surgical specimen was finally diagnosed as local hemolymphangioma by pathological analysis.
Lessons: Localized hemolymphangioma of the rectum is very rare, and imaging examination is essential for the diagnosis and evaluation of the extent of lesion invasion.
