Abstract One-carbon metabolism is essential for our human cells to carry out nucleotide synthesis, methylation, and reductive metabolism through one-carbon units, and these pathways ensure the high proliferation rate of cancer cells. Serine hydroxymethyltransferase 2 (SHMT2) is a key enzyme in one-carbon metabolism. This enzyme can convert serine into a one-carbon unit bound to tetrahydrofolate and glycine, ultimately supporting the synthesis of thymidine and purines and promoting the growth of cancer cells. Due to SHMT2's crucial role in the one-carbon cycle, it is ubiquitous in human cells and even in all organisms and highly conserved. Here, we summarize the impact of SHMT2 on the progression of various cancers to highlight its potential use in the development of cancer treatments.

Abstract Background: Intermittent exotropia (IXT) would cause different degrees of damage to stereopsis. We aimed to introduce a visual perception plasticity score (VPPS) that reflects initial postoperative plasticity and evaluate its effectiveness in predicting the mid-term surgical outcome in IXT patients.
Methods: A total of 149 patients with intermittent exotropia who underwent surgery in November 2018 and October 2019 were recruited. All subjects underwent detailed ocular examinations before and after surgery. VPPS were calculated based on visual perception examination system at one week postoperatively. Demographic, angle of deviation and stereopsis were collected and analyzed with regard to the VPPSs preoperatively and at one week, one month, three months, six months postoperatively. Predictive performances of VPPS were assessed using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves, the area under the curve (AUC) and cut-offs were obtained.
Results: Of the 149 patients, the average deviation was 43
Conclusion: Higher VPPSs were associated with a greater possibility of stereopsis improvement in patients with IXT. VPPS is a potentially promising indicator to predict the mid-term surgical outcome of intermittent exotropia.

Abstract Robot manipulation, for example, pick-and-place manipulation, is broadly used for intelligent manufacturing with industrial robots, ocean engineering with underwater robots, service robots, or even healthcare with medical robots. Most traditional robot manipulations adopt 2-D vision systems with plane hypotheses and can only generate 3-DOF (degrees of freedom) pose accordingly. To mimic human intelligence and endow the robot with more flexible working capabilities, 3-D vision-based robot manipulation has been studied. However, this task is still challenging in the open world especially for general object recognition and pose estimation with occlusion in cluttered backgrounds and human-like flexible manipulation. In this article, we propose a comprehensive analysis of recent progress about the 3-D vision for robot manipulation, including 3-D data acquisition and representation, robot-vision calibration, 3-D object detection/recognition, 6-DOF pose estimation, grasping estimation, and motion planning. We then present some public datasets, evaluation criteria, comparisons, and challenges. Finally, the related application domains of robot manipulation are given, and some future directions and open problems are studied as well.
