Abstract Aim:To examine the relationship between urinary symptoms and vulvar lichen sclerosus.Materials and Methods:This cross-sectional study was performed in our clinic between January 2019 and March 2020. One hundred and ten patients were included in the study. They were all postmenopausal women and were divided into two groups: the study group comprised of women diagnosed with lichen sclerosus (n=59), and the control group comprised of postmenopausal women who sought a routine gynecological examination (n=51). In the study group, all patients were dermatopathologically diagnosed with biopsy. Both groups completed two validated questionnaires: the Urogenital Distress Inventory (UDI-6) and the Incontinence Impact Questionnaire (IIQ-7). The total scores from questionnaires and sub-groups of UDI-6 and IIQ-7 were also analyzed in detail. Results:There were no differences in demographic features or in time from the onset of menopause for both groups. Total UDI-6 scores were significantly higher in the study group (p<0.05). Scores in the sections of the UDI-6 that included irritative symptoms and urinary incontinence were also higher in the study group (p<0.01). Total IIQ-7 scores were also significantly higher in the study group (p<0.05). The IIQ-7 sub-scores regarding physical activity and travel were significantly higher in the study group (p<0.01).Conclusion:To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study in the literature reporting the association between vulvar lichen sclerosus and urinary incontinence symptoms through validated objective tests. We demonstrated that both UDI-6 and IIQ-7 scores were significantly higher in patients with vulvar lichen sclerosus.

Abstract Aim:The aim of this study was to determine risk factors that may play a role in the diagnosis of insufficient endometrial tissue and to evaluate the office hysteroscopy findings of these patients.Materials and Methods:The clinical data and results of insufficient endometrial tissue in the medical records of patients at Bakırköy Dr. Sadi Konuk Teaching and Research hospital from August 2018 to November 2019 were analyzed retrospectively. Results:Endometrial biopsy procedures were applied to 1560 patients during the period evaluated for the study. The pathology report of 81 patients (5.2%) was evaluated insufficient endometrial tissue. The results of the 64 patients were analyzed in the study. The mean age of the patients in the study was 52.1 years (range= 32-78 years). Results of 64 patients undergoing hysteroscopy; normal hysteroscopic findings (22 patients; 34%), endometrial polyp (18 patients; 28%), appearance of submucous myoma (6 patients; 10%) and atrophic endometrial appearance (18 patients; 28%) were evaluated. Conclusion:We point out that insufficient endometrial tissue diagnosis can be detected more often in postmenopausal cases over 60 years of age and in patients with large uterine fibroids. Additionally, we emphasize that hysteroscopy can guide the clinician for definitive diagnosis in patients with insufficient endometrial tissue.

Abstract INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study was to analyze the clinical features of erosive vulval lichen planus (LP) and their coexistence with human papilloma virus (HPV) infection via cervical HPV test results. METHODS: The clinical data and results of HPV tests in the medical records of 32 erosive vulval LP patients at Bakırköy Dr. Sadi Konuk Teaching and Research hospital from January 2017 to August 2019 were analyzed retrospectively. RESULTS: The mean age of vulval LP patients was 57.5+- 6.3 years. On examination, the sites of mucosal involvement in vulval LP were the vulva only (56%; 18 patients); vulva, vagina and oral cavity (18%; 6 patients); the vulva and vagina (12%; 4 patients); and vulva and oral cavity (12%; 4 patients). Two patients had only the HPV 16 genotype, one patient had the HPV 11 and 40 genotypes and one patient had the HPV 58 genotype. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: Gynecological evaluation was required for all vulval LP patients. Although only four patients had positive HPV test results in our study, we emphasize that the treatment process of vulval LP may have an effect on HPV infection. Nevertheless, further community-based studies are needed.

Abstract Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, tek veya bilateral endometriomalarda laparoskopik kistektomi sonrası elektrokoagülasyon veya sütür tekniği uygulaması ile sağlanan hemostazın, endometrioma rekürrensi ve spontan gebelik oranlarına etkisinin değerlendirilmesidir. Spontan gebelik oranı her iki grupta benzer saptandı.

Abstract Small intestinal tumours are rare and difficult to diagnose. This neoplasms may be responsible for haemorrhage, occlusion, perforation and subsequent emergent surgeries. A 28 year old G2P1 woman in her 22nd week of pregnancy was referred to our emergency department with a complaint of left lower abdominal pain that had begun the day before. She underwent an emergent laparotomy with the general surgeons. Histopathological examination defined the diagnosis of leiomyoma of the small intestine. Gastrointestinal pathologies should always be taken into consideration in the differential diagnosis of acute abdomen in pregnancy.

Abstract Objective: Violence against women, particularly against pregnant women, is increasingly being recognized as a significant problem around the world. Limited studies were found about domestic violence among pregnant women. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of domestic violence during pregnancy and the factors affecting it.Material and Methods: This prospective study was conducted at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, between January 2012 and April 2013. A total of 1349 pregnant women, irrespective of age and socioeconomic status, were interviewed using a questionnaire in the local language. Results: The incidence of domestic violence in this study was 2.37%. The mean age of women who reported violence was 29.06±5.53 years. Age, marriage duration, gravidity, parity, educational level, partner’s educational level, and monthly income exerted no significant influences on women who experienced domestic violence during their pregnancies (p>0.05). Women who resided in the same houses with large extended families were at significantly higher risk of domestic violence during pregnancy in comparison with the pregnant women who lived within a core family (p=0.018).Conclusion: Domestic violence during pregnancy is a potential public health problem. Education, improvements in economic autonomy, and society’s attitudes may reduce domestic violence. Health-care providers should increase their awareness of risk factors to protect women from domestic violence.

Abstract The etiology of chronic vaginal discharge in children varies and can be seen as infection, sexual abuse, congenital malformations, vulvar skin disease, vaginal neoplasms and a foreign body. A vaginal foreign body is not a common problem in childhood but it should always be considered when a little girl consults a physician with a chronic vaginal discharge problem. We present the diagnosis and treatment management via vaginoscopy applied to a 6 year old girl who complained of a foul smelling vaginal discharge that had been resistant to medical treatment for the last two years.

Abstract Objective: Our aim is to identify the causes of the women’s preferences of vaginal delivery vs. cesarean section and their attitudes for an elective cesarean section. Methods: 400 healthy woman who had applied for antenatal care were included in the study. A questionnaire which is consisted of 21 questions, focused on preference toward mode of delivery and the etiology of these preferences was conducted as a face to face interview. According to history of delivery methods, women have separated into three groups as; women have never given birth/nulliparous (group 1), women who had only vaginal deliveries (group 2), and women who had at least one cesarean deliveries/previous cesarean section (group 3). Results: Of the 400 women questioned, 348 () opted for vaginal delivery, whereas only 52 () opted for an elective caesarean delivery. Ratios of cesarean delivery preference is high in group 3 (.5) than group 1( ) and 2 (%2.7) . Main reasons for vaginal delivery preference: feeling of less pain, fast and easy recovery and less bleeding and infection risc for mothers were the most common preference reasons among all 3 groups. The most common reasons for choosing caesarean delivery were: ‘more comfortable and easy’ in group 1 and ‘tubal ligation demand’ in group 3. ‘Less pain’ and ‘fear of tearing (episiotomy)’ also other common reasons for choosing cesarean delivery among all 3 groups. Conclusion: In order to reduce the rate of implemented cesarean section, it is substantially important to encourage educated women and those who have experienced advanced maternal age for increasing the rate of vaginal delivery. Abstract Aim: To evaluate clinical characteristics of 264 patients whom underwent 5 mm Bettocchi office hysteroscopy due to abnormal uterine bleeding, postmenapausal bleeding, infertility and measure diagnostic of transvaginal ultrasonography and successful rate and patient acceptance in office hysteroscopy. Methods: A retrospective cohort study on office hysteroscopy was performed. The medical records and patient files were detected in Bakirkoy Dr. Sadi Konuk Research and Educational Hospital between January 2012 and May. The data was analizied in computerised database with IBM SPSS Statistics 21.0 programme. Results: Endometrial polyp was found to be the most frequent pathology in patients whom underwent office hysteroscopy. The rate was 50.8 %. The endometrial polyp and myoma sensitivity of office hysteroscopy were found 97.0 % and 83.9 % respectively. The duration of operation was 4.83 minutes. Only 1 out of 264 cases was a marked discomfort. The complication rate of procedures is 0.4 % and due to one perforation of uterus. Conclusion: Office hysteroscopy is a successful and well-tolerated procedure. Through adequate expertise, it should be considered the method of choice at the same time when exploration of the uterine cavity is needed. [Cukurova Med J 2014; 39(4.000): 765-771]

Abstract Amaç: Anormal uterin kanama, postmenopozal kanama, infertilite ve endometrial kalınlık artışı nedenli başvuran ve 5 mm Bettocchi ofis histeroskopi yapılan 264 hastanın klinik özellikleri, ofis histeroskopinin başarılı diagnostik değeri ve hasta toleransının değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır.
