Abstract Acute limb ischemia and peripheral vascular disease (PVD) are unusual presentations of polyarteritis nodosa (PAN). Here, we present a case with PVD of both lower limbs leading to foot claudication. Digital subtraction angiography showed narrowing, irregularity, and occlusion of both lower limb arteries with no involvement of the abdomen visceral arteries. Based on significant weight loss, diastolic blood pressure >90 mmHg, myalgia, testicular pain, and angiographic abnormalities in medium-sized arteries, he was diagnosed as having PAN. He was treated with corticosteroid and bolus intravenous cyclophosphamide following which he had prompt and near-complete recovery of the symptoms without any tissue loss.

Abstract Evaporative cooling during late gestation period improves post‐partum reproductive performance in Murrah buffaloes. To prove this hypothesis, sixteen pregnant dry Murrah buffaloes at sixty days pre‐partum were selected and divided into two groups of eight animals each. Group 1 of buffaloes (Cooled/CL) was managed under fan and mist cooling during dry period, whereas second group of buffaloes (non‐cooled/NCL) remained without the provision of cooling. After parturition, all the animals were managed under evaporative cooling till the end of experimental period. Reproductive performance in cooled (CL) and non‐cooled (NCL) groups, respectively, viz. 1st and 2nd ovulation from calving (48.63 ± 2.41, 69.25 ± 2.34 days and 57.75 ± 3.35, 93.63 ± 2.84 days); calving to conception interval (117.88 ± 4.21 days and 117.88± 4.21 days); conception rate (87.5% ± 2.16% and 57% ± 2.26%); and follicular diameter at the time of 1st and 2nd ovulation (14.84 ± 0.16, 15.75 ± 0.13 mm and 12.65 ± 0.13, 13.35 ± 0.11 mm) varied significantly (p < .05). Total peak oestrogen concentration was significantly (p < .05) higher in cooled (26.7 ± 1.32 pg/ml) relative to non‐cooled (20.7 ± 1.22 pg/ml) buffaloes. Time from onset of oestrus to ovulation varied significantly (p < .05) in cooled (32 ± 2.22 hr) and non‐cooled (40 ± 2.86 hr) buffaloes. The peak progesterone concentration reached to (4.25 ng/ml) in cooled group and (4.16 ng/ml) in non‐cooled group after first ovulation.

Abstract Primary pericardial tumours are very rare and are hence not usually part of our differential diagnosis, especially since they have non-specific signs and symptoms. While chest radiography remains the most common initial imaging investigation in the assessment of suspected cardiothoracic pathology, the diagnostic yield for assessing pericardial lesions is limited, often necessitating the need for further assessment with echocardiography, CT scan or MRI. We present a case of an adult male patient with an incidental primary pericardial tumour diagnosed during the routine imaging assessment of suspected pulmonary infections. After proper formulation of diagnosis, the patient was managed accordingly for pulmonary pathology and discharged on recovery. Over the years, with advancement and widespread increase in use of multidetector CT and MRI, diagnosing primary pericardial tumours has become easier. MRI has now become the modality of choice for imaging of pericardial tumours because of its better soft-tissue contrast resolution.

Abstract Abstract Motoneurons are the final output pathway for the brain’s influence on behavior. Here we identify properties of hypoglossal motor output to the tongue musculature. Tongue motor control is critical to the pathogenesis of obstructive sleep apnea, a common and serious sleep-related breathing disorder. Studies were performed on mice expressing a light sensitive cation channel exclusively on cholinergic neurons (ChAT-ChR2(H134R)-EYFP). Discrete photostimulations under isoflurane-induced anesthesia from an optical probe positioned above the medullary surface and hypoglossal motor nucleus elicited discrete increases in tongue motor output, with the magnitude of responses dependent on stimulation power (P < 0.001, n = 7) and frequency (P = 0.002, n = 8, with responses to 10 Hz stimulation greater than for 15–25 Hz, P < 0.022). Stimulations during REM sleep elicited significantly reduced responses at powers 3–20 mW compared to non-rapid eye movement (non-REM) sleep and wakefulness (each P < 0.05, n = 7). Response thresholds were also greater in REM sleep (10 mW) compared to non-REM and waking (3 to 5 mW, P < 0.05), and the slopes of the regressions between input photostimulation powers and output motor responses were specifically reduced in REM sleep (P < 0.001). This study identifies that variations in photostimulation input produce tunable changes in hypoglossal motor output in-vivo and identifies REM sleep specific suppression of net motor excitability and responsivity.

Abstract Hysterectomy operation is frequently performed on women. In the era of minimal invasive surgery, the route of hysterectomy depends upon numerous clinical variables. The aim of this study was to evaluate & suggest the appropriate approach for hysterectomy. A total of 250 patients were included in the presents study; they were divided, into three categories: Category I included 50 patients of Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP) for Vaginal Hysterectomy (VH), Category II included 40 patients who underwent Non Descent Vaginal Hysterectomy (NDVH), Category III included 160 patients who had Total Abdominal Hysterectomy (TAH). Operative time, hemorrhage, wound infection, post- operative analgesia, febrile morbidity, hospital stay and recovery were recorded for each patient. Indications for hysterectomy were POP, abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) and fibroid uterus. The study period showed a gradual increase in number of NDVH. Perioperative blood loss, post operative pain score, hospital stay; cost was less in patients with VH/NDVH. Uncomplicated, fast and cost effective technique for removal of uterus remains VH & NDVH. Non Descent Vaginal Hysterectomy is gaining increased acceptability among patients being minimally invasive with no visible scar.

Abstract The effect of two arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi [G. mosseae (G) and A. laevis (A)] with P.fluorescence (Pf) in the presence of super phosphate (P) fertilization on growth and yield of bell pepper (Capsicum annuum var. California Wonder) was evaluated in pots under greenhouse conditions, in a completely randomized design with four levels of phosphorus fertilizer [F0-without P, F1-0.200g pot-1 (half of the recommended dose), F3-0.400g pot-1 (recommended dose) and F4-0.800g pot-1 (double the recommended dose)] having six different combinations of bioinoculants. Inoculation of bioinoclulants with F1 increased plant growth and nutrition to an acceptable level with AM fungi in combination with P.fluorescens. Application of higher dose of P fertilizer markedly decreased all the growth parameters. The prevalence of AM colonization was highest in G+A+Pf with F1. Similarly highest yield was recorded for the treatment involving multi inoculation of G+A+Pf in the treatment of F1 followed by dual inoculation of G+Pf in F0 plants. Thus this finding suggests the application of efficient bioinoculants (G+A+Pf) along with right dose of P fertilizer (half of the recommended P) during seedling transplantation to increase overall growth and yield performance of bell pepper and could be considered as a sustainable substitute to higher phosphorus fertilizer for bell pepper cultivation.
