Abstract This paper describes the development of an integrated chrono-nutrition weight reduction program and the evaluation of the attendance, retention, satisfaction and compliance towards the chrono-nutrition components among morning and evening chronotypes for overweight/obese non-shift workers. The present study was conducted in two phases: Phase I was composed of needs assessments on the chronotypes’ dietary patterns and chrono-nutrition through a scoping review and integrating the chrono-nutrition components (temporal eating pattern, meal timing and sleeping habits) alongside the existing weight reduction module, SLIMSHAPE™. Phase II consisted of a feasibility study to evaluate the integrated chrono-nutrition weight reduction program (SLIMSHAPE™ Chrono). A total of 91 overweight/obese non-shift workers participated in the 12-week weight reduction program (Age: 39.6 ± 6.3 years; 74.7% women; BMI: 31.2 ± 4.5 kg/m2). Low attrition rate was recorded, with 85 participants (93.4%) completing the pre- and post-intervention assessments. Overall, morning and evening chronotypes had increased their % energy intake in the early eating window (MT: 64.8 vs. 67.2%, ET: 62.7 vs. 65.6%, Mean difference (MD): 2.8, 95%CI: 0.3, 5.1, p = 0.028) and reduced their intake in the late eating window (MT: 35.2 vs. 32.8%, ET: 37.3 vs. 34.4%, MD: −2.8, 95%CI: −5.1, −0.3, p = 0.028) and earlier midpoint of eating (MT: 14:02 vs. 13:49; ET: 14:27 vs. 14:18, 95%CI: −0.4, −0.02, p = 0.029) and had a reduced night eating syndrome score (MT: 10.0 vs. 8.9; ET: 10.7 vs. 8.9, MD: −1.5, 95%CI: −2.5, −0.5, p = 0.004). There was no significant change in the first (MT: 08:12 vs. 08:04, ET: 08:24 vs. 08:22, MD: −0.1, 95%CI: −0.2, 0.03, p = 0.170) and last mealtime (MT: 19:52 vs. 19:33, ET: 20:29 vs. 20:14, MD: −0.3, 95%CI: −0.6, −0.04, p = 0.081), eating duration (MT: 11.7 vs. 11.5 h, ET: 12.1 vs. 11.9 h, MD: −0.2, 95%CI: −0.6, 0.2, p = 0.251) and the elapse time between sleep onset and last meal (MT: 3.1 vs. 3.5 h, ET: 3.5 vs. 3.2 h, MD: 0.1, 95%CI: −0.3, 0.4, p = 0.678). In terms of sleep, evening chronotypes increased their sleep duration (MD: 0.8 h, 95% CI: 0.4, 1.2, p < 0.001) and reduced social jetlag (MD: 19 min, 95% CI: 1.7, 36.3, p = 0.031) post-intervention compared to morning chronotypes. The integrated chrono-nutrition weight reduction program among morning and evening chronotypes improved the temporal pattern of energy intake, meal timing, night eating syndrome and sleep habits post-intervention. The chrono-nutrition practice could be a potentially modifiable behavior as an adjunct strategy in weight management.

Abstract The objective was to assess how ovariectomy or the administration of artificial female sex hormones affects orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) with fixed appliances. An electronic search of indexed databases was completed without language or time restrictions up to June 2022. The following eligibility criteria were utilized: (i) prospective original controlled clinical studies; (ii) experimental studies on animal models; (iii) subjects undergoing orthodontic therapy with fixed appliances; (iv) clearly defined control groups not undergoing ovariectomy or administration of artificial female sex hormone; and (v) studies with experimental groups receiving the intervention of interest (ovariectomy or artificial female sex hormone administration). Review articles, letters to the editor, case reports, case series, commentaries, cross-sectional studies, retrospective studies, and studies with no well-defined control group were excluded. The quality of the available evidence and the risk of bias within the studies were assessed. All disagreements were resolved via discussion. Seven animal studies were included in the systematic review. Five studies reported that ovariectomy increased the rate of orthodontic tooth movement. Two studies reported that the administration of artificial female sex hormones decreased the rate of orthodontic tooth movement. There is an association between ovariectomies and OTM and between the administration of artificial female sex hormones and OTM. The full extent of the association remains unclear due to the biases that are present and the length of time of orthodontic therapy.

Abstract Background/purpose: COVID-19 has caused a global public health crisis with a major impact on the dental community. The unknown nature of the disease, close and prolonged contact between the patient and provider, aerosol-generating dental procedures in dental settings, guidelines that kept evolving are some of the factors that have alarmed the dental community. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the fear/anxiety among dental providers and assess the knowledge and related practice modification in a post-doctoral dental institution in Upstate New York.
Materials and methods: An online, anonymous, validated survey was sent to all dental faculty and trainees (n = 358) including general dentists and specialists from various departments between August and October 2020. Descriptive statistics and Chi-square goodness-of-fit test were performed.
Results: A total of 144 responded to the survey. It was reported that the majority of the dental providers (faculty (80%) and trainees (90%)) were afraid of getting infected with COVID-19 from the patient. Approximately 90% in both groups reported fear of carrying the infection home to their family and about reports of people dying. The majority of dental providers were well-versed with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines. There was difference in knowledge about using N-95 and level 3 masks with face shields for various dental procedures.
Conclusion: The study concluded that COVID-19 related fear/anxiety among dental providers was immediate and needed to be addressed.

Abstract This research investigates the relation between the architectural attributes of traditional and modern houses in Afghanistan and the constraints imposed on Afghan women’s lives by considering recent incidents. This study draws upon a combination of historical sources and news articles pertaining to contemporary Afghan affairs as its primary data sources. Additionally, it comparatively analyzes two houses — one exemplifying the traditional Afghan design and another, modern architecture — in the City of Herat, Afghanistan. By highlighting the interplay between architectural features and their implications for women’s lives, this research aims to shed light on this dwelling relationship. The findings of this research indicate that urban areas more conspicuously manifest modernization in physical aspects, evinced by the prevalence of modern residential houses. However, with the initiation of new restrictions imposed by the Taliban after 2021, modern houses (characterized by more limited open spaces than traditional ones) engender heightened vulnerability for Afghan women. Thus, confining women within these modern houses deleteriously impacts their physical and mental well-being.

Abstract The COVID-19 pandemic has been affecting our lifestyles, such as work, living, and health. In Malaysia, the Restriction of Movement Order (RMO) was first announced in March 2020 to curb the spread of the virus. Since then, many Malaysians have been confined to their own home. This new lifestyle can cause a change of eating habits where healthy eating may be a challenge. Hence, our qualitative study explored the challenges and strategies for healthy eating during the first wave of the COVID-19 home confinement period among working adults overweight and obese in Malaysia. Eleven participants were individually interviewed through phone calls. The interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim, and then coded with NVIVO 12 based on thematic analysis. We found that social pressure, changes in the social setting, more free time to access food, and extra stock of unhealthy foods at home were among the challenges to healthy eating. Some participants countered these perceived challenges by reducing unhealthy food stock, limiting kitchen visits, and utilizing self-monitoring apps to monitor their calorie intake. Social media was not consistently perceived to influence their eating behavior during this period. We conclude that COVID-19 home confinement has created challenges to healthy eating habits among overweight and obese adults with overweight and obesity. Our study provides evidence that vulnerable groups such as overweight and obese individuals require specific nutritional support during pandemic-related confinement to enhance eating self-efficacy.

Abstract The aim of this systematic review was to compare the shear bond strength (SBS) of orthodontic brackets bonded to human teeth with and without enamel fluorosis (EF) using conventional bonding interventions/techniques. An unrestricted search of indexed databases was performed with the following eligibility criteria: (a) human fluorotic teeth (experimental-group); (b) human teeth without fluorosis (control-group); (c) studies using phosphoric acid (PA) etching without air abrasion (AA), PA etching combined with AA, and application of self-etching primer (SEP) alone as bonding interventions/techniques and (d) measuring SBS in megapascals (MPa). Data screening, selection and extraction were performed by two reviewers. The risk of bias (rob) was assessed using the JBI Critical appraisal tool for Quasi-Experimental Studies. Meta-analyses were performed using a random effects model. The quality of available evidence was assessed using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation approach. Ten in vitro studies were included. Subgroup analyses were performed for each intervention type. The SBS was significantly lower in fluorotic teeth when PA was used without AA (mean difference = 3.26 MPa, confidence interval: [1.00, 5.52]); and there were no significant differences for the PA combined with AA and SEP interventions. All studies had a low rob. The overall level of evidence was at best low. The SBS is lower in teeth with EF when traditional PA is used. No significant differences were found in SBS between teeth with and without EF when PA is used with AA or when SEP is used alone.
