Abstract This work focuses on the development of an electrocatalytic material by annealing a composite of a transition metal coordination material, iron hexacyanoferrate (Prussian blue) immobilized on carboxylic-acid-functionalized reduced graphene oxide. Pyrolysis at 500 °C under a nitrogen atmosphere formed nanoporous core-shell structures with efficient activity, which mostly included iron carbide species capable of participating in the oxygen reduction reaction in alkaline media. The physicochemical properties of the iron-based catalyst were elucidated using transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Mössbauer spectroscopy, and various electrochemical techniques, such as cyclic voltammetry and rotating ring-disk electrode (RRDE) voltammetry. To improve the electroreduction of oxygen over the studied catalytic material, an external magnetic field was utilized, which positively shifted the potential by ca. 20 mV. The formation of undesirable intermediate peroxide species was decreased compared with the ORR measurements without an external magnetic field.

Abstract The present paper focuses on the fabrication of coatings based on vinyltrimethoxysilane and the influence of various corrosion media on the coatings produced. Coatings were deposited on two substrate materials, namely, titanium Grade 2 and titanium alloy Ti13Nb13Zr, by immersion in a solution containing vinyltrimethoxysilane, anhydrous ethyl alcohol, acetic acid and distilled water. The obtained coatings were characterized in terms of surface morphology, adhesion to the substrate and corrosion resistance. As corrosion solutions, four different simulated physiological fluids, which differed in the contents of individual ions, and a 1 mol dm

Abstract This mixed-methods study investigated factors associated with fatigue, disability and school attendance in young people with severe CFS/ME. Participants' illness experiences were also explored. Questionnaires were completed at baseline (T1) and approximately 5 months later (T2). There were 51 participants aged between 12 and 25, with a mean age of 18.8 years (SD 3.4). At T1, participants reported severe fatigue and poor social adjustment. Stronger fear avoidance beliefs at T1 were associated with higher fatigue at T2, and with worse social adjustment at T1 and T2. Female gender was associated with lower work/school attendance at T1 and T2 but not with higher fatigue or worse social adjustment. Having accessed treatment was associated with reporting lower levels of work/school attendance at T1 and T2. Multivariate analyses of key outcomes identified significant associations between stronger fear avoidance beliefs and worse social adjustment at T2, and between female gender and lower work/school attendance at T2. It was clear from the qualitative data that severe CFS/ME negatively impacted on many aspects of young people's lives. Fearful beliefs about activity could be targeted using cognitive-behavioural interventions.

Abstract In this article, the author presents a review of a construct of mentalization as it is developed by P. Fonagy and his collaborators. Mentalizing is the process of making sense of mental states in oneself and other persons in terms of subjective states (e.g. wishes, desires, beliefs) and mental processes. The concept of mentalization is rooted in the attachment theory and theory of mind (ToM). Mentalization is assessed by the measure of the reflective function.

Abstract The aim of this article is to describe the normal and abnormal development of mentallisation and development of borderline personality disorder as a mentallisation dysfunction, in the context of development of attachment relation. Borderline personality disorder is a distinct clinical syndrome with important implications for public health; patients show reduced capacities to mentalise, which inevitably leads to problems in interpersonal relationships, identity disturbance, impulsivity, emotional regulation and suicidal threats. In this article author present a review of a construct of mentallisation as it is developed by P. Fonagy and his collaborators. Mentalising is the process of making sense of mental states in oneself and other persons in terms of subjective states and mental processes. The concept of mentallisation is rooted in attachment theory. The author reviews the biobehavioural switch–model of the relationship between attachment, arousal or stress, mentallisation, and development of borderline personality disorder.

Abstract Aims: To look at the incidence of tip margin involvement in skin excisions for basal cell carcinomas (BCCs) and to examine if any factors might be used to predict margin involvement.
Methods and results: All reports of BCCs by a single dermatopathologist were reviewed and 793 excisions were included from 642 patients. Whether there was BCC in the tip and whether this tip was involved were recorded together with macroscopic and microscopic factors based on the Royal College of Pathologists' (RCPath) dataset. Statistical analysis was carried out to determine associations between these factors and tip involvement. In 43 (5%) specimens the tip margin was involved and in 35 (4%) cases the peripheral lateral margin was involved. Risk factors for tip margin involvement were a lesion that was non-discernible macroscopically and most importantly, involvement of a peripheral lateral margin.
Conclusions: The incidence of tip margin involvement is small and it appears unnecessary to embed the tips unless the lesion is non-discernible macroscopically or if the peripheral lateral margin is involved.
