Abstract Purpose: To assess the frequency and the predictive factors of Acute Kidney injury (AKI) in patients undergoing percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PNL).
Methods: A prospective observational work. Demographic, preoperative laboratory data, stone characteristics, and intraoperative and postoperative data were gathered. Perioperative AKI had been defined as an elevation in serum creatinine by ≥ 0.3 mg/dl within 48 h, or ≥ 1.5 times baseline, or urine volume less than 0.5 ml/ kg/hour for 6 hours. A multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to determine the predictive factors of AKI. ROC curves were utilized to determine the cutoff values of the risk variables. P-values were deemed statistically significant when they were less than 0.05.
Results: A total of 418 participants had been involved. The frequency of AKI was 13.9, and 17.2% of patients with AKI developed CKD. The risk factors were age > 46.5 years, smoking, BMI > 28.5 kg/m
Conclusions: Perioperative AKI occurred in 13.9% of individuals undergoing PNL. Identification and optimization of the risk factors and meticulous technique during PNL procedures should be attempted to decrease the risk of AKI.

Abstract Salvia rosmarinus Spenn (synonym: Rosmarinus officinalis L.) is economically and medically important and grows naturally in Al-Marj (Libya). Macro, micro morphological and chemical characteristics were studied. Leaf venation, leaf anatomy and chemical compounds of essential oils were carried out according to traditional methods. The objective of the present study is to provide detailed description of the characteristics of this species. Morphological charactersistics of leaves, calyx, corolla, stamens are useful for sectional and specific delimitations in Salvia. The leaf architecture characters of primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary veins are good diagnostic markers for the identification and classification of species. Anatomical characters such as glandular and non- glandular trichomes , mesophyll structure, presence of hypodermis and structure of vascular bundles have been found to have taxonomic value. Cineol (32.38%) is main component of essential oil, followed by Camphor, β-pinene, borneol, Caryophyllene, α-terpineol and α-pinene. Chemical data in essential oils carried taxonomic value of Salvia species.

Abstract Polypyrrole nitrogen porous carbon composite (PP/N-PCC) was prepared from molasses of the sugarcane industry. PP/N-PCC was characterized and used in the cadmium removal from the aqueous feed in a column system. The inlet metal concentration, flow rate, bed depth and pH were studied. Removal percent was reached 71.45% with a sorption capacity of 233.54 mg/g at pH5, 10 ml/min, and 7.5 bed depths. The column system was modelled using Thomas, Adams-Bohart and Yoon-Nelson kinetic models. The higher R2 > 0.98 indicates that the Thomas model appeared to a well-fitting with the experimental outcomes. PP/N-PCC adsorbent appeared well recycled up to 8 cycles indicating the economic feasibility of PP/N-PCC in the separation of Cd (II) ions from liquid wastes.

Abstract Nanocomposite of magnetite-silica (Fe3O4@SiO2) was synthesized and walled with a shell of 5,7-dihydroxy-4-methylcoumarin (DHMC). The prepared dihydroxy-4-methylcoumarin magnetite-silica nanocomposite (DHMC-M-SNC) was used in the uranium uptake from the liquid phase in a batch system. The structure of DHMC-M-SNC was investigated by BET, XRD and FTIR analyses. DHMC-M-SNC appeared maximum sorption capacity reached 66.43 mg/g at 30 min and pH 5. The U (VI) sorption system onto DHMC-M-SNC was favorable at low temperature (Exothermic nature) and fitted well with Langmuir (R2 = 0.997) and pseudo-second-order models (R2 = 0.989). Also, recycling of DHMC-M-SNC shows a potential recycle up to 8 cycles. The results show that the prepared nanocomposite can be utilized as an operative sorbent in the U (VI) sorption from the liquid phase.

Abstract Transcription factor binding to a gene regulatory region induces or represses its expression. Binding and expression target analysis (BETA) integrates the binding and gene expression data to predict this function. First, the regulatory potential of the factor is modeled based on the distance of its binding sites from the transcription start sites in a decay function. Then the differential expression statistics from an experiment where this factor was perturbed represent the binding effect. The rank product of the two values is employed to order in importance. This algorithm was originally implemented in Python. We reimplemented the algorithm in R to take advantage of existing data structures and other tools for downstream analyses. Here, we attempted to replicate the findings in the original BETA paper. We applied the new implementation to the same datasets using default and varying inputs and cutoffs. We successfully replicated the original results. Moreover, we showed that the method was appropriately influenced by varying the input and was robust to choices of cutoffs in statistical testing.

Abstract Water pollution and the global energy crisis are two significant challenges that the world is facing today. Ultrasound-assisted synthesis offers a simple, versatile, and green synthetic tool for nanostructured materials that are often unavailable by traditional synthesis. Furthermore, the integration of ultrasound and photocatalysis has recently received considerable interest due to its potential for environmental remediation as a low-cost, efficient, and environmentally friendly technique. The underlying principles and mechanisms of sonophotocatalysis, including enhanced mass transfer, improved catalyst-pollutant interaction, and reactive species production have been discussed. Various organic pollutants as dyes, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, and emerging organic pollutants are targeted based on their improved sonophotocatalytic degradation efficiency. Additionally, the important factors affecting sonophotocatalytic processes and the advantages and challenges associated with these processes are discussed. Overall, this review provides a comprehensive understanding of sono-assisted synthesis and photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants and prospects for progress in this field.

Abstract Purpose: To assess the feasibility, operative time, clinical outcomes, possible complications, and failure rates of all-through arthroscopic biceps tenodesis using press-fit bony plug technique.
Methods: This prospective case series study involved 30 skeletally mature patients with long head of biceps pathology (tendinitis after failure of conservative treatment, subluxation, dislocation, or tendon tears). All patients were followed up for 24 months at least.
Results: Twenty-nine patients regained full shoulder and elbow range of motion; one case suffered from reflex sympathetic dystrophy. There was a significant improvement in the constant, ASES, and VAS scores when comparing the pre-operative and post-operative values. The average biceps strength was 96% compared to the opposite healthy side. No cases were complicated by neuro-vascular deficits or failure of the tenodesis.
Conclusion: Press-fit biceps tenodesis is safe and accessible with low economic demands. We recommend this technique to be used more often when addressing patients with long head of biceps pathologies.

Abstract The presence of hazardous pollutants in water sources as a result of industrial activities is a major environmental challenge that impedes the availability of safe drinking water. Adsorptive and photocatalytic degradative removal of various pollutants in wastewater have been recognized as cost-effective and energy-efficient strategies. In addition to its biological activity, chitosan and its derivatives are considered as promising materials for the removal of various pollutants. The abundance of hydroxyl and amino groups in the chitosan macromolecular structure results in a variety of concurrent pollutant's adsorption mechanisms. Furthermore, adding chitosan to photocatalysts increases the mass transfer while decreasing both the band gap energy and the amount of intermediates produced during photocatalytic processes, improving the overall photocatalytic efficiency. Herein, we have reviewed the current design and preparation of chitosan and its composites, as well as their applications for the removal of various pollutants by adsorption and photocatalysis processes. Effects of operating variables such as the pH, catalyst mass, contact time, light wavelength, initial pollutant's concentration, and catalyst recyclability, are discussed. Various kinetic and isotherm models are presented to elucidate the rates, and mechanisms of pollutant's removal, onto chitosan-based composites, and several case studies are presented. Additionally, the antibacterial activity of chitosan-based composites has been discussed. This review aims to provide a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of the applications of chitosan-based composites in wastewater treatment and put forward new insights for the development of highly effective chitosan-based adsorbents and photocatalysts. Finally, the main challenges and future directions in the field are discussed.
