Abstract “Professor Ahn’s most recent volume, Power Struggles: Energy security and energy diplomacy in the Asia Pacific, a deeply researched and timely consideration of the full range of energy security topics in Asia, serves the critical purposes of providing in-depth detail about the energy needs of Asia while also providing incisive analysis about what the international energy security environment will bear. Professor Ahn judges that a US-ROK Alliance committed to effective energy security will make a huge difference. A must-read for specialists but accessible for generalists, Power Struggles is the right book for these confounding times.” —Roy D. Kamphausen, President, The National Bureau of Asian Research (USA) “This wide-ranging book is a must-read for any student of energy security in Northeast Asia. Ahn provides a wealth of information that maps existing and potential energy networks from Russia through the Korean peninsula. The chapter on energy security and the US-ROK alliance speaks to how much supply chain resilience has become a critical mission of the alliance. An excellent read for scholars and policymakers.” —Victor Cha, Vice Dean and D.S. Song-KF Professor of Government, Georgetown University “Professor Se Hyun Ahn has provided timely, thoughtful, and comprehensive analysis of complex energy security challenges in the Asia-Pacific region. I highly recommend his book to those seeking to understand the interaction of energy policy, and diplomacy for energy security in a dynamic region where the growing demand for energy has profound implications for the international political economy and security.” —Charles W. Boustany, Jr., Member of U.S. Congress, 2005-2017 (USA) This book explores the Asia Pacific’s energy security exploring key issues including major trans-border energy projects, energy mix policy, trans- border pipelines, LNG transfer between nations, balance of power relations between major powers, the North Korean energy situation, energy alliances, World Choke point and more. Se Hyun Ahn is Professor of the Department of International Relations and the Director of the Center for Energy Security Strategic Studies in the University of Seoul.

Abstract In plants, complex signaling networks monitor and respond to environmental cues to determine the optimal time for the transition from the vegetative to reproductive phase. Understanding these networks requires robust tools to examine the levels and subcellular localization of key factors. The florigen FLOWERING LOCUS T (FT) is a crucial regulator of flowering time and occurs in soluble and membrane-bound forms. At low ambient temperatures, the ratio of these forms of FT undergoes a significant shift, which leads to a delay in the onset of flowering. To investigate these changes in FT localization, epitope-tagged FT protein can be isolated from plants by subcellular fractionation and its localization examined by immunoblot analysis of the resulting fractions. However, the highly abundant protein ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase (RuBisCO) can interfere with methods to detect and characterize low-abundance proteins such as FT. In this chapter, we present a method for analyzing the ratio of HA-tagged FT (HA:FT) in different subcellular fractions while mitigating the interference from RuBisCO by using protamine sulfate (PS) to deplete RuBisCO during protein purification, thereby enhancing HA:FT detection in fractionated samples.

Abstract Background: Postpartum hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a rare disease with unclear pathophysiology. It is a secondary HLH diagnosed using the pediatric diagnostic criteria; however, the clinical diagnosis of postpartum HLH remains challenging. Hence, HLH may remain undiagnosed, leading to poor patient prognosis. Therefore, improvements in the accuracy of postpartum HLH diagnoses and treatments are necessary.
Case summary: We report the case of a 40-year-old female with postpartum HLH. The patient attended the postpartum care center for 3 wk after giving birth and underwent needle aspiration due to thyroid gland enlargement 11 d before an emergency department visit precipitated by fever and abdominal pain. Since no abnormal emergency room findings were noted, the patient was discharged with a prescription for broad-spectrum antibiotics. Three days later, she returned to the emergency room in a hemodynamically unstable state and was admitted to the intensive care unit with suspected sepsis or hematologic disease. The patient was treated, without effect, for sepsis using broad-spectrum antibiotics, and for suspected hematologic disease with steroid therapy. However, she died due to rapidly worsening symptoms.
Conclusion: Rapid recognition and appropriate treatment of postpartum HLH are needed to improve the prognosis.

Abstract Background: and purpose: Aromatherapy offers a low-risk solution for effectively managing common nausea and vomiting in cancer patients. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess its impact on these symptoms to facilitate practical guidelines establishment.
Methods: PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, MEDLINE, CINAHL, and Embase were searched for articles published until April 30, 2023. Inclusion criteria were randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on the effect of aromatherapy on nausea and vomiting in patients with cancer (age ≥18 years). The effect size was calculated using standardized mean differences (SMDs) with a random effects model. Subgroup analyses, meta-analysis of variance, and meta-regression were performed using the "meta" package in R version 4.0.2. Heterogeneity was assessed using I
Results: Twenty-five RCTs across 10 articles revealed that aromatherapy reduced overall nausea and vomiting in patients with cancer with significant efficacy (SMD = -0.81, 95 % confidence interval [CI]: -1.11 to -0.52). Furthermore, aromatherapy reduced nausea (SMD = -0.85, 95 % CI: -1.23 to -0.46) and combined nausea and vomiting (SMD = -1.08, 95 % CI: -1.68 to -0.47), but not vomiting alone (SMD = -0.24, 95 % CI: -1.03 to 0.55). Inhalation and massage yielded positive results, especially in chemotherapy-induced cases; peppermint oil was particularly successful.
Conclusion: Our findings underscore aromatherapy's value in managing cancer treatment-associated nausea and vomiting. Conclusive evidence on aromatherapy-led nausea reduction is lacking due to limited RCTs; research is warranted for robust conclusions.

Abstract Bronchoscopy has evolved over the past few decades and has been used by respiratory physicians to diagnose various airway and lung diseases. With the popularization of medical check-ups and growing interest in health, early diagnosis of lung diseases is essential. With the development of endobronchial ultrasound, ultrathin bronchoscopy, and electromagnetic navigational bronchoscopy, bronchoscopy has been able to widen its scope in diagnosing pulmonary diseases. In this review, we have described the brief history, role, and complications of bronchoscopy used in diagnosing pulmonary lesions, from simple flexible bronchoscopy to bronchoscopy combined with several up-to-date technologies.

Abstract Drug-induced pneumonitis is rare, and can result in death. Here, we present a report of a patient with adenocarcinoma harboring EGFR exon 19 deletion mutation treated with osimertinib as first-line treatment. After six days of treatment, extremely early onset severe pneumonitis was diagnosed. Discontinuation of osimertinib as well as administration of corticosteroid, and retreatment with osimertinib were successful. This case report highlights that extremely early onset severe pneumonitis can occur after osimertinib administration, and retreatment of osimertinib may be a useful treatment option after resolution of pneumonitis.

Abstract The lymphatic system provides a route for the spread of inflammation and malignancies. The identification of nodal stations and lymphatic pathways of tumor spread is important for tumor staging, choice of therapy, and the prediction of the prognosis of patients with malignant diseases. Because lymph node metastasis is common in primary intra-abdominal malignant tumors, its detection is essential for radiologists to understand the pattern of disease spread. Using schematic pictures and color-coded CT images, this pictorial essay describes the locations and nomenclature of the abdominal lymph nodes. Furthermore, the lymphatic drainage pathways of the upper and lower gastrointestinal tracts, liver, gallbladder, bile duct, and pancreas have been highlighted. In addition, lymph nodes belonging to the regional lymph nodes in malignant tumors arising from each organ are described, and certain cases are presented with images from patients.

Abstract Background: As the COVID-19 pandemic emerged, and social distancing increased, the physical activity (PA) of people decreased, which increased depression. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between self-reported changes in PA with the COVID-19 pandemic and major depression according to moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA) status.
Methods: This study included 228,457 adults and used data from the Korea Community Health Survey 2020. Multiple logistic regression analysis was performed to evaluate the relationship between self-reported changes in PA and major depression stratified by MVPA status.
Results: The percentage of participants who reported decreases in PA was 39.5% in men and 44.7% in women compared with the pre-COVID-19 pandemic period. Those who reported decreases in PA after the onset of COVID-19 had major depression (men odds ratio = 1.28; 95% confidence interval, 1.15-1.43 and women odds ratio = 1.35; 95% confidence interval, 1.25-1.46). Women who were moderately or vigorously physically active had higher odds of major depression when they reported decreases in PA (odds ratio = 1.31; 95% confidence interval, 1.06-1.62).
Conclusions: People who reported decreases in PA were associated with major depression compared with the pre-COVID-19 pandemic period. Based on this, the government should encourage exercise to reduce major depression and provide guidelines for PA at home or outdoors.
