Abstract This paper shows that successful switching of extremely high short-circuit currents I> 50 kA can be achieved by joint operation of a liquid-metal self-resetting current limiter and a circuit breaker connected in series. The type NFU-225 device from Mitsubishi was taken as an example. The time-current characteristic of joint operation of a liquid-metal self-resetting current-limiting device and a circuit breaker was compiled. However, further in the article physical processes occurring in a liquid-metal self-resetting current limiter with a complete transformation of fusible unit are considered. The result of work is modelling of operation of liquid-metal fuses when overcurrents are switched off based on the pilot studies obtained by the Japanese scientists. It is proposed to simulate the break process not at every time moment, but at specific time moments (reference points). At other time moments, current and voltage should be considered as approximately linearly changing characteristics. The work of current limiter can be represented by three stages: the pre-arc, the main arc and the final arc. If the current density is less than 1000 A/mm2, then the pre-arc operation stage of the current limiter includes the following sections for heating the fusible unit: primary heating to the melting temperature; melting and its transition to liquid state; secondary heating to evaporation temperature; evaporation of fusible unit.

Abstract There are two main goals of this study: to investigate the performance variations of in-situ combustion (ISC) with the change in initial oil saturation (IOS) through laboratory screening tests and to determine mechanisms for maintaining the dynamic control of ISC by varying the injected air rate in an oil field which has heterogeneously distributed IOS. Thus, we start with the determination of the optimum IOS value for ISC with five combustion tube tests at identical experimental conditions but at different IOS values and the IOS value used in the best performing experiment is decided to be the optimum IOS value for the given experimental conditions. Then, the air-requirement for the field-scale application is calculated analytically. The air-requirements for the experiments which exhibit poorer performance are normalized according to the value obtained for the optimum IOS case. We observed that the fuel-deposition amount is highly affected by the IOS and decreases with IOS. Our findings show that the constant air rate used in the experiments is responsible for the performance change in ISC for varying IOS. Therefore, the air rate should be adjusted according to the estimated fuel deposition amount for the dynamic control of ISC for the field application.

Abstract The synthesis of a new series of 1-[ω-(bromophenoxy)alkyl]-uracil derivatives containing in position 3 naphthalen-1-yl-, naphthalen-2-yl-, 1-bromonaphthalen-2-ylmethyl, benzyl, and anthracene 9-methyl fragment was carried out. The antiviral properties of the synthesized compounds were studied against human cytomegalovirus. It was found that the compound that contained a bridge of five methylene groups has a high anti-cytomegalovirus activity in vitro.

Abstract This article presents a study of taxonomic diversity and some ecological aspects of basidial macromycetes of Tatyshev Island (the Yenisei River, Krasnoyarsk krai). Ninety species belonging mainly to Agaricales, Polyporales, Russulales, and Boletales orders were revealed. Mycorrhiza-forming fungi, xylotrophe fungi, and humus saprotrophic fungi prevail in the trophic structure. A considerably high proportion of ruderal species of fungi was noted.

Abstract Equilibrium parameters (ion-exchange capacity, moisture content) and transport characteristics (electroconductivity, ion transport numbers, liquid filtration coefficient, and streaming potential) of perfluorinated sulfonated (MF-4SK) and carboxylated (MF-4CK) cation-exchange membranes in NaCl and KCl solutions were measured. Experimental data were used for calculation of the electrochemical membrane characteristics: concentration of fixed ions, counter- and coions, efficiency coefficients and structural resistance coefficients, ion mobilities in membranes, electroosmotic mobility and convective part of specific conductivity of intramembrane liquid, Donnan's potentials and water transport numbers in membranes. Concentration polarization of the membrane systems was also investigated. Method of limiting current determination - using polarization potential measurements after current interruption (DeltaE j=0) - was proposed and compared with usual (from current-voltage curve) method. Two components of DeltaE j=0 potentials -- connected with electrolyte diffusion (slow part) and connected with volume charge in diffusion layer (fast part) were determined. Electrolyte concentrations near membrane surfaces were calculated from the slow part of membrane polarization potentials in dependence on current density values.

Abstract Analysis of the B-chromosome frequency and morphotypes in 160 mice Apodemus peninsulae from 17 localities of the Baikal region, Northern Mongolia, Trans-Baikalia, and the Russian Far East showed that the mice were from five geographical populations. The interpopulation difference was determined by variations of 0–4 macro B chromosomes and 0–11 micro B chromosomes. The B-chromosome number and morphotypes proved to be stable over the past 30 years in the geographical populations under study.
