    Abstract Background: Rheumatic diseases encompass a diverse group of autoimmune disorders that affect the joints and connective tissues. The red blood cell distribution width (RDW) has been widely investigated as an inflammatory marker. This scoping review aimed to explore the potential utility of RDW as an inexpensive marker for disease activity in patients with rheumatic diseases. By summarizing the available evidence, we aimed to determine whether RDW can serve as a reliable and accessible indicator of disease activity in these patients.
    Methods: A comprehensive search was systematically performed across electronic databases, encompassing PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science. Studies have explored the relationship between RDW and disease activity in rheumatic diseases. Data extraction focused on the study characteristics, methodologies, and findings related to RDW as a disease activity marker.
    Results: After removing duplicates, the initial search yielded 25 relevant studies. These studies encompassed a variety of rheumatic diseases, with rheumatoid arthritis being the most frequently studied condition. The association between RDW and disease activity was assessed by using various disease activity indices and clinical parameters. While some studies have reported a significant correlation between elevated RDW and disease activity, others have yielded inconclusive results.
    Conclusion: From this review, we concluded that RDW is an inexpensive potential marker for the evaluation of disease activity in rheumatic diseases. RDW is promising as an inexpensive and readily available marker; however, its clinical utility in assessing disease activity in rheumatic conditions warrants more rigorous investigation through well-designed prospective studies.

    Abstract Introduction: Coping strategies for stress tend to vary in different cultural. The Brief COPE (BC) is the most commonly used self-report instrument to identify the types of coping strategies used which has a total of 14 strategies with 28 items. The aim of this study was to translate into Arabic and validate the Brief COPE scale in the Saudi Arabian population.
    Methods: A cross-sectional method was used to assess the reliability, validity, and cultural appropriateness of the Arabic version of the Brief COPE (A-BC) among 302 males and females (33.8% females).
    Results: The test-retest reliability was strong at 0.8, and the principal component factor analysis yielded a 3-factor structure, namely 'active coping', 'passive coping', and 'support-seeking', with Composite Reliability scores of 0.84, 0.75, and 0.81 respectively. Confirmatory factor analysis indicated an acceptable factors structure.
    Conclusion: The 3-factor structure of the A-BC was found to be a valid and reliable instrument among the Saudi population. This makes the scale useful in both clinical practice and clinical research.

    Abstract Background: Open fractures are severe injuries resulting from the bone breaking through the skin, and they have a negative impact on patients' physical, mental, and financial well-being as well as that of the healthcare system. The incidence of open fractures varies globally. These injuries can lead to prolonged disability, increased healthcare costs, and psychological distress. The Gustilo-Anderson classification system is used to classify open fractures into three categories which surgeons use as an index for the severity of an injury and as a prognostic tool. Management involves a multidisciplinary approach, focusing on preventing infection, promoting wound healing, and restoring function.
    Objective: The objective of this study is to provide statistics on the epidemiology of open fractures presented to the emergency department to be used later to create management protocols.
    Methods: This 5-year retrospective observational analysis of open fracture patients at King Fahad Hospital, a tertiary trauma care institute in Alkhobar from 2018-2023, aimed to understand socio-demographics, injury mechanisms, fracture patterns, and timing. Data were collected electronically, and found 373 cases which were reviewed, and only 138 open fractures fit our inclusion and exclusion criteria and were added to the study.
    Results: The study analyzed 138 openly fractured bones in 132 patients aged 2 to 68. Most bones affected were in the lower extremities, the most common being the forefoot bones. The most common mode of injury was a motorbike, followed by MVA. The most common Gustilo type was type 2, with no significant correlation between gender and severity. Musculoskeletal system injury was the highest associated system. Furthermore, we observe a slight increase in cases in Winter/Fall weather seasons.
    Conclusion: Total amount of 84.8% of patients with open fractures are men, compared to 15.2% of women. The average age of patients is 25.6 ± 15.6 years. Motorbike accidents, then MVA, are the two leading causes of open fractures. Weather seasons, especially in fall and winter, may also contribute to an increase in open fractures. We found that type 2 is the most common Gustilo type among the injured bones (59.1%).

    Abstract Introduction The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in significant hospitalizations and deaths, particularly among healthcare workers (HCWs). Various therapeutic and preventive measures have been introduced, with vaccination considered the primary preventive measure. This study aims to assess the perceptions and acceptance of COVID-19 vaccination among HCWs. Methods We conducted an analytical cross-sectional study on HCWs in hospitals located in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The study included physicians, nurses, pharmacists, lab technicians, and radiologists who work in the Ministry of Health's general hospitals. A total of 394 participants were included in the study. Data were analyzed using SPSS v26, and a p-value less than 0.05 was considered significant. Results A majority of the participants (72.6%) were female, aged between 31-40 years (55.3%), and married (59.6%). More than half of the participants (55.6%) had received training on dealing with COVID-19. The mean scores for COVID-19 vaccine refusal, perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, and perceived effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccination were 18.36 ± 7.02, 14.48 ± 3.62, 11.51 ± 2.99, 12.39 ± 3.5, 8.25 ± 2.35, and 8.40 ± 2.46, respectively. Age was found to be correlated with the perceived severity of COVID-19 in non-vaccination (p=0.048), while gender was associated with the perceived severity of COVID-19 (p=0.015). Marital status (p=0.001), years of experience (p=0.009), profession (p=0.019), and education (p=0.028) were found to be correlated with perceived susceptibility. Education levels were found to be correlated with the perceived benefits of vaccination (p=0.007), perceived barriers to vaccines (p=0.002), and vaccine views (p=0.002). Years of experience (p=0.017) were found to be correlated with perceived severity of COVID-19, while profession type was significantly associated with perceived severity of COVID-19 (p=0.016) and vaccine view (p=0.008) Conclusion The study found that participants had a positive perception and high acceptance of COVID-19 vaccination. The results also indicated that various sociodemographic factors were associated with the perception and acceptance of COVID-19 vaccines among HCWs. These findings could help in formulating effective strategies to improve vaccination uptake rates among HCWs, thereby reducing transmission and mortality among Health Care Workers due to COVID-19.

    Abstract Purpose of review: Autoinflammatory diseases (AIDs) constitute several disorders that share similar characteristics, clinical features, disease course, and prognosis. They are characterized by the presence of recurrent episodes of unprovoked inflammation due to dysregulated innate immune system in the absence of autoantibodies or infections. AIDs include periodic fever syndromes and other less commonly growing list of syndromes. In this review, vasculitis associated with different AIDs will be highlighted.
    Recent findings: Vasculitis is inflammation and necrosis of the blood vessels causing impaired blood flow, ischemia, and infarction of the dependent tissues. It is a very rare manifestation of AIDs and when it occurs, the skin is the most affected tissue than any other organs such as kidneys, lungs, or CNS. Although vasculitis and AIDs share similar manifestations such as fever, skin rashes, and neuropathy, vasculitis is not a characteristic feature of AIDs and still not clear if it represents a main clinical feature or a manifestation of other disease process.

    Abstract A novel mathematical analysis is established that summits the key features of peristaltic propulsion for a non-Newtonian micropolar fluid with the electroosmosis and heat transfer enhancement using nanoparticles. In such physiological models, the channel have a symmetric configuration in accordance with the biological problem. Being mindful of this fact, we have disclosed an integrated analysis on symmetric channel that incorporates major physiological applications. The creeping flow inference is reviewed to model this realistic problem. Flow equations are model using cartesian coordinates and simplified using long wave length and low Reynolds number approximation. Nonlinear linear couple equations are solving numerically. We have studied the variation in the properties of nanofluid developed by two different types of nanoparticles (i.e. Cu and Ag nanoparticles). Graphical illustrations are unveiled to highlight the physical aspects of nanoparticles and flow parameters. The exploration demonstrates that the micro-rotation of the nano-liquid elements enhances the thermal conductivity of the fluid movement. The effect of micropolar fluid parameters on mean flow and pressure variables is also presented.

    Abstract The current investigation examines the peristaltic flow, in curved conduit, having complaint boundaries for nanofluid. The effects of curvature are taken into account when developing the governing equations for the nano fluid model for curved channels. Nonlinear & coupled differential equations are then simplified by incorporating the long wavelength assumption along with smaller Reynolds number. The homotopy perturbation approach is used to analytically solve the reduced coupled differential equations. The entropy generation can be estimated through examining the contributions of heat and fluid viscosities. The results of velocity, temperature, concentration, entropy number, and stream functions have been plotted graphically in order to discuss the physical attributes of the essential quantities. Increase in fluid velocity within the curved conduit is noticed for higher values of thermophoresis parameter and Brownian motion parameter further entropy generation number is boosted by increasing values of Grashof number.

    Abstract Herpes zoster (HZ) is a common contagious dermatological condition that results from reactivation of varicella-zoster virus (VZV), which currently could be prevented by vaccination. We describe a rare case of varicella infection reactivation after routine zoster vaccination in an immunocompetent female in her 60s who developed dermatomal pruritic and vesicular rash one week after receiving Shingrix vaccine, along with fever, sweating, headache, and fatigue. The patient was treated as a case of herpes zoster reactivation with a seven days course of acyclovir. She continued to do well on follow-up with no significant complications. Though uncommon, it is important for healthcare providers to recognize this adverse reaction to expedite testing and treatment.

    Abstract Background The impact of COVID-19 infection and immunization on salivary gland function has not yet been fully understood. Therefore, a study to determine salivary pH (SP), salivary buffer capacity (SBC), and salivary flow (SF) in COVID-19-infected and immunized patients seeking dental care is necessary. Therefore, the main goal of this study was to evaluate saliva production at five minutes, SP, and salivary SBC in COVID-19-infected and vaccinated dental patients who were undergoing treatment at a private university dental hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Methodology Dental students at Riyadh Elm University were included in this observational study, which involved dental patients. Based on Tawakkalna application records, patients were asked to provide their COVID-19 infection and vaccination status. Mean, standard deviation, and descriptive statistics of the frequency distribution were computed. Results The study included individuals aged 18 to 39 years old, with an average age of around 28.5 years old. The sample had slightly more males than females, but the difference was not significant. In terms of COVID-19 testing, most individuals had tested positive for the virus two or three times. The most common amount of unstimulated saliva produced was 3.5 mL, with most individuals producing between 2 and 3.5 mL of saliva. According to the observations, there were substantial variations between people who tested positive and negative for the COVID-19 virus in terms of SP and buffering capacity, suggesting that these factors could be possible indications of infection. Conclusions This study also emphasizes the value of evaluating several salivary factors to enhance diagnostic precision and the possibility of saliva-based testing as a non-invasive and affordable substitute for conventional diagnostic techniques in relation to oral issues. The study does, however, have several drawbacks, such as the limited sample size and the inability to be generalized to different populations.

    Abstract Human action recognition (HAR) is a rapidly growing field with numerous applications in various domains. HAR involves the development of algorithms and techniques to automatically identify and classify human actions from video data. Accurate recognition of human actions has significant implications in fields such as surveillance and sports analysis and in the health care domain. This paper presents a study on the design and development of an imitation detection system using an HAR algorithm based on deep learning. This study explores the use of deep learning models, such as a single-frame convolutional neural network (CNN) and pretrained VGG-16, for the accurate classification of human actions. The proposed models were evaluated using a benchmark dataset, KTH. The performance of these models was compared with that of classical classifiers, including K-Nearest Neighbors, Support Vector Machine, and Random Forest. The results showed that the VGG-16 model achieved higher accuracy than the single-frame CNN, with a 98% accuracy rate.
