Abstract Background: Pressure ulcers associated with the non-invasive ventilation mask can significantly reduce the quality of life of the patient who needs this therapy. This study aims to identify clinical interventions to prevent skin lesions associated with the use of non-invasive ventilation medical devices.
Methods: The Scoping Review followed the methodology of the Joanna Briggs Institute. For this study the research was carried out, during the month of January 2022, in several databases, such as PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, EBSCOhost, RCAAP and OpenGrey, and studies published between 2010 and 2022 were included.
Results: Of the 33 articles identified, 11 articles were included in this review, in which we identified several interventions for the prevention of skin lesions associated with the use of medical devices for non-invasive ventilation. The interventions identified include skin assessment, optimal fixation of the device, and the use of interfaces, namely, hydrocolloid or foam dressing under the NIV mask, among others Conclusion: This scoping review demonstrates that there is some scientific evidence for prevention, however the methodological approaches are very different, which makes it difficult to clearly describe the referenced interventions. This study was not registered.

Title translation “A Morte de Ivan Ilitch” e as múltiplas dimensões da doença.
Abstract The short story "The Death of Ivan Ilyich" (1886), Leo Tolstoy (1828-1910) provides key elements for a reflection on the meaning of long-term illness. Based on Tolstoy's short story the present paper analyzes the multiple dimensions of the process of illness. It starts with the argument that illness is not an a priori totality, but a trajectory of associations between the sick person, the doctor, family members, friends and caregivers. Acting, being affected, thinking and feeling all come together in the development of these associations. The analysis of the Ivan Ilyich's illness will consider the following points: (a) illness as otherness and incomprehensibility (growing unfamiliarity with one's body and the stages by which the body is gradually objectified); (b) illness as trajectories in an field of practices that involves the development of skills and the "education of attention"; (c) modes of health care as a set of techniques, objects and discourses that are put together or associated throughout trajectories concerned with the establishment of health. Long-term illness is therefore a mode of immersion of the sick person in networks of relations that come to be a part of her everyday life.

Abstract Hematology and serum biochemistry reference intervals were estimated for the Iberian hare (Lepus granatensis). Most parameters differed significantly between hunted and livetrapped Iberian hares. Significant differences were found for sex (red blood cell count, mean corpuscular volume, total protein, albumin, uric acid, triglycerides, cholesterol, chloride) and age classes (red blood cell count, hematocrit, mean corpuscular hemoglobin, glucose, calcium, and sodium). Sex- and age-specific reference intervals were estimated for these parameters. Red blood cell count, hemoglobin concentration, mean corpuscular hemoglobin, urea, and potassium show seasonal variations, with the lowest values in summer and the highest in winter. Creatinine, calcium, sodium, and phosphorus achieve their highest values in summer and stable baseline values throughout the rest of the year. These reference intervals can be used as baseline to monitor health, physiology, ecology, and nutrition of Iberian hare populations.

Abstract As healthcare continues evolving in the age of digital technology, the integration of artificial intelligence has emerged as a powerful force, particularly in wound care. The education of healthcare professionals in wound care is crucial for ensuring they acquire the necessary knowledge and skills, optimizing patient outcomes. This paper outlines the protocol for a scoping review with the goal of mapping and analyzing the current scientific evidence regarding the potential impact of artificial intelligence in wound care education. The current protocol follows the JBI methodological framework. The search was conducted in December 2023 in the following databases: CINAHL Complete (via EBSCOhost), MEDLINE (via PubMed), Cochrane Library, Academic Search Complete, Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo), Scopus, and Web of Science. Electronics searches were conducted in the Scientific Open Access Scientific Repositories of Portugal (RCAAP) and ProQuest Dissertations and Theses, OpenAIRE, and Open Dissertations databases to access gray literature. Additionally, searches were performed on Google Scholar and specific journals such as the International Wound Journal, Skin Research and Technology, Journal of Wound Care, and Wound Repair and Regeneration. The initial database searches retrieved a total of 11,323 studies. After removing duplicates, a total of 6450 studies were submitted for screening. Currently, 15 studies are included in this review, and data charting and analysis are underway. The findings of this scoping review will likely provide insights into the application of artificial intelligence in wound care education.

Abstract The current Brazilian copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn) prevention values (PV) for soil quality do not take into account the ecotoxicological impacts on soil organisms, which suggests these guiding values may not be protective of soil ecological trophic levels. This study assessed the acute (mortality) and chronic toxicity (reproduction), as well as the cumulative (bioaccumulation) potential of Cu and Zn (pseudo-total and available fractions) for earthworms Eisenia andrei in a Tropical Artificial Soil (TAS) and two tropical field soils (Oxisol and Alfisol). Toxicity data based on pseudo-total fractions were compared to PV. The Lowest Observed Effect Concentrations (LOEC) for the mortality endpoint were found at Cu and Zn concentrations higher than their PV (60 and 300 mg kg

The Lowest Observed Effect Concentrations (LOEC) for the mortality endpoint were found at Cu and Zn concentrations higher than their PV (60 and 300 mg kg⁻¹, respectively), regardless of the soil type. However, concentrations lower than PV reduced the reproduction of E. andrei by 20% (compared to the controls) for Cu in all tested soils (EC₂₀s from 31.7 to 51.2 mg kg⁻¹) and by 50% for Zn in Oxisol and Alfisol (EC₅₀s = 225 and 283 mg kg⁻¹, respectively). In TAS, only the EC₂₀ (273 mg kg⁻¹) for Zn was lower than PV. Increases of Cu in earthworm tissues occurred at concentrations higher than PV in all tested soils (LOEC values from 70 to 107 mg kg⁻¹). The same was observed for Zn in TAS (LOEC = 497 mg kg⁻¹), while in the field soils, the increases of Zn in earthworm tissues were lower than PV (LOEC = 131 and 259 mg kg⁻¹ in Alfisol and Oxisol, respectively). We suggest the following: (1) The current Brazilian PV for Cu and Zn are not protective for earthworms (E. andrei) in the field soils tested; (2) PV derived from ecotoxicological assays in artificial soil cannot be representative for Brazilian field soils; (3) Using PV based on the pseudo-total fraction, without a soil-type normalizing factor, may limit the representativeness of this threshold for different soil types.
