Abstract Background/Objective: Symphysis pubis is among the joints involved in different diseases and also trauma. Change in joint space is one of the most common signs observed in different diseases, especially in traumatic patients. Various methods have been used to evaluate the joint space of symphysis pubis. Of which conventional radiography is the most common. "nAs symphysis pubis is a superficial, sonography may be a suitable method to evaluate the joint and to measure its space. Having researched in the reference books and the available articles, no comprehensive study has been performed in this field. "nPatients and Methods: In this research, the symphysis pubis joint space in healthy people was measured and the association between the measured space with sex, age, weight, height, BMI (body mass index) and the number of parity among women was assessed. "nResults: There was a direct linear correlation between distance of joint space and age (p-value=0.006, r=0.190). There was a direct linear correlation between distance of joint space and weight (p-value=0.029 and r=0.151). There was a reversed linear correlation between distance of joint space and height (p-value=0.004, r=0.195). There was a direct linear correlation between distance of joint space and BMI (p-value=0.001, r=0.269). There was a direct linear correlation between distance of joint space and number of parity (p-value=0.031, r=0.203). The mean of joint was 6.26mm±0.75mm among men and 6.86mm±0.88mm among women. The t-test demonstrates that the difference is significant (p-value<0.001)."nConclusion: This study and the calculated joint space can be generalized to the society with the error estimation of 0.11mm

Abstract Various neoplastic, vascular and developmental causes may lead to spinal neural foraminal widening. Schwanomas and neurofibromas are the most common causes of spinal dumbbell-shaped lesions. Occasionally, some other slow-growing tumors may cause neural foraminal widening."nWe report an exceptional case of a spinal chondrosarcoma of the neural arcus of C5. The lesion passed through the C4-C5 foramen, producing a dumbbell mass.

Abstract Osteochondroma or exostosis is a bony developmental anomaly, which arises from exophytic outgrowth on bone surfaces in a characteristic manner. Osteochondroma is asymptomatic and grows away from the nearby joint. This paper reports an unusual presentation of osteochondroma in which the patient was surprisingly completely symptomatic. The lesion grew toward the nearby joint and the radiographic findings were not compatible with surgical findings

Abstract Neurofibromatosis (NF) is often noticed at birth or soon after. NF is divided into two types: NF type 1 is a complex of cutaneous and deep neural tumors. It is an autosomal dominant familial disorder. CNS is affected in about 15% of the cases. Optic nerve gliomas have a high degree of association with NF 1."nNF type 2 is much less commonly seen. It is also inherited as an autosomal dominant trait. Bilateral acoustic neuromas are pathognomonic of NF 2 and may be associated with meningiomas or ependymo-mas."nTypical clinical manifestations of neurofibromatosis are cafe-au-lait spots and multiple cutaneous tumors. There are also bone involvement as scoliosis, pseudoarthrosis of long bones, scalloping of vertebral bodies, abnormal rib tubulation, and defective ossification of the posterior superior wall of the orbit."nExtraskeletal manifestations of neurofibromatosis include gliomas of the optic nerves, pheochromocytoma, aneurysms of cerebral and renal arteries, acoustic neurilemmoma and superficial skin nodular neurofibromas."nHere, we intend to present images of several cases of neurofibromatosis with different aspects of involvement of the body. Abstract Background: Alzheimer′s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease with atrophic changes in the temporal lobe. Enlargement of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) spaces, hippocampal sulcus (HS) enlargement, or an increase in the number or size of hippocampal cavities (HCs) could be associated with medial temporal lobe atrophy (MTA). In this study, we assessed the relation of these CSF spaces with AD. Materials and Methods: A total 36 demented patients with diagnosis of Alzheimer (Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) ≤25) and 36 non-demented elderly individuals were referred for basic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) before initiating anti-dementia therapy in the demented group. Two observers assessed the maximal HS width, as well as the occurrence, number, and size of HCs, and the visual rating score of MTA on magnified coronal high-resolution T1-weighted MR images. Results : The findings of our study indicate that the presence of hippocampal cavity (HC) (especially in the left side) and medial temporal lobe atrophy in demented patients was significantly higher in comparison with non-demented elderly subjects ( P ≤ 0.05). There was a significant relationship between MTA and HS width ( P = 0.003, r = 0.00323), and it also had a trend to be significant with size of HCs ( P = 0.08, r = 0.00314). A correlation between MTA and number of HCs was not detected. Conclusion : HS width is associated with MTA in patients with AD. It may serve as a measure to evaluate MTA for identifying individuals at particularly high risk for Alzheimer progression, and could be employed for selecting subjects for clinical trials or for treatment decisions.

Abstract Background/Objective: The criteria for response to"nInterferon β-1-a in the treatment of multiple sclerosis"n(MS) has been clinical. However, imaging criteria on"nMagnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) can also be useful."nThe number of MS plaques (NP) and the volume of"nMS plaques (VP) are two criteria for evaluation of the"nresponse to treatment based on MRI. The aims of the"npresent study were: (a) to assess the NP on MRI as a"nreliable criterion for response to treatment, (b) to assess"nthe VP on MRI as a reliable criterion for response to"ntreatment, (c) to compare the NP and VP with each"nother as which one is the most accurate, and (d) to"ndefine for the first time a new cut-off point, in the case"nof proving these two criteria reliable."nPatients and Methods: Thirty-five relapsingremitting"nMS patients were randomly selected and a"npre-treatment MRI for each patient was taken. The NP"nand VP were determined. Then, the patients were put"non Interferon β-1-a for one year. After completion of"ntreatment period, another MRI for each patient was"ntaken. The NP and VP were again determined. The"ncriterion for response to treatment on MRI was defined"nas 50% decrease in mean NP or VP."nResults: There was a significant decrease in the mean"nNP after treatment (p-value<0.001). There was also a"nsignificant decrease in the mean VP after treatment (pvalue<"n0.001) (The cut-off point defined for analyzing"nthe data was 50% decrease in mean NP or VP). The"nspecificity of the NP and VP as two criteria was the"nsame and equal to 100%. The sensitivity of the NP"nwas 65.5% and for the VP was 90.6%. Furthermore,"naccording to Rock curve, if the cut-off point for the NP"nis considered 10%, the sensitivity of NP as a criterion"nwill be the same as that of VP (90.6%)."nConclusion: The VP is a more accurate criterion than"nthe NP. If the cut-off point for the NP is changed to"n10% decrease in mean, the sensitivity of the number"nof plaques as an imaging criterion will be the same as"nthat of the volume of plaques.

Abstract Cemento-ossifying fibroma is a lesion containing both fibrous and osseous components. Such lesions include fibrous dysplasia, ossifying fibroma, cemento-ossifying fibroma and cementifying fibroma. Periodontal membrane is the origin of fibro-osseous lesions other than fibrous dysplasia. Here a clinical case of a young woman referred for evaluation of a mass in the right side of face between eye and nose is presented. The first time she noticed the mass was 2 years ago and was growing larger inwards. She was treated with surgical resection. In this case of a cemento-ossifying fibroma, histological interpretation was critical, and was the basis of correct treatment.
