Abstract The Doñana area in southern Iberia is one of the most renowned protected areas of Europe, mostly due to the diversity and value of its wetland ecosystems. The large biogeographical significance of this territory and the outstanding availability of sedimentary archives have made this region a hotspot of paleobotanical research in the Iberian Peninsula. Specifically, the organic deposits on El Asperillo Cliff have been studied during the past few decades from the geomorphological and paleobotanical (pollen, macrofossils) points of view. However, large uncertainties remain concerning the chronology of certain sections of the exposed profile and the paleobotanical potential of this site has not been fully exploited yet. In this study, we revisited El Asperillo with the aims of completing the paleobotanical record and refining the chronology of this site. The age of the studied deposits ranges from ca. 22,000 to 30,900 cal. yr BP according to the radiocarbon dates obtained, thus embracing the particularly cold and dry Heinrich Event 2 and the Last Glacial Maximum. Our palynological results allow inferring the presence of a coastal marshland system. Additionally, the new pollen records highlight the relevance and diversity of pines (Pinus nigra-sylvestris type, P. pinaster, P. halepensis-pinea type) in the Late Pleistocene landscape of Doñana, reinforcing the native status of pines. Last but not least, the results stress the persistence of a highly diverse woody flora in Doñana during the harshest periods of the last glacial cycle, highlighting the importance of this enclave in postglacial vegetation recolonization of the Iberian Peninsula.

Abstract Background: Acute myocardial ischemia in opposite regions may attenuate ST-segment changes, but whether this effect is expressed differently in extracardiac compared to direct intramyocardial recordings is not well known.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to characterize ST-segment changes induced by opposite ischemic regions in intact and isolated perfused pig hearts.
Methods: Left anterior descending (LAD) and right coronary arteries (RCA) were occluded in 7 closed chest pigs and in 5 isolated pig hearts. ST-segment changes were analyzed in 12-lead ECG and in local extracellular electrograms.
Results: Isolated LAD or RCA occlusion induced maximal ST-segment elevation in leads V4 (0.84 ± 0.30 mV, P = .003) and III (0.16 ± 0.11 mV, P = .04), respectively. RCA occlusion also induced reciprocal ST-segment depression maximal in lead V4 (-0.40 ± 0.16 mV, P = .005). Simultaneous LAD and RCA occlusion reduced ST-segment elevation by about 60% and blunted reciprocal ST-segment changes. Reperfusion of 1 of the 2 occluded arteries induced immediate regional reversion of ST-segment elevation with concurrent beat-to-beat re-elevation in the opposite ischemic region and reappearance of reciprocal ST-segment changes. In the isolated heart, single LAD or RCA ligature induced regional transmural ST-segment elevation that was maximal in endocardial electrograms with no appreciable reciprocal ST-segment depression. Simultaneous LAD and RCA ligature reduced ST-segment elevation by about 30% with no appreciable re-elevation after 1-vessel selective reperfusion.
Conclusion: Acute myocardial ischemia in opposite ventricular regions attenuated ST-segment elevation and blunted reciprocal depression in conventional ECG leads but not in direct local myocardial electrograms.

Abstract Introduction: nutritional intake and status of soccer players has attracted not much research attention. Many soccer players follow an inadequate nutritional intake and have a poor nutritional status. This is relevant in youngsters soccer players, in order to improve performance and promote healthy dietary practices.
Aims: analyze anthropometric characterizes, evaluate nutritional intake and status, dietary habits and pre- and post-exercise meals in elite teenagers soccer players.
Methods: seventy-two young male soccer players (15-20 years) from four junior teams of a soccer Club from the Mexican National Soccer League were measured for height, seat height, weight, 6 skinfolds, 6 diameters and 7 circumferences, height-for-age and BMI-for-age values. Skin, adipose, muscle, bone and residual tissue masses were calculated with the Ross and Kerr equation. Resting energy expenditure and intake was also measured. Daily dietary intake was self-recorded for 4 consecutive days (excluding the match day) using a digital food-weighing scale and a food record questionnaire. Dietary analysis was performed using the NutriBase 7 Clinical software. Several biochemical values were determined. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and post hoc testing was performed using t-tests with a Bonferroni correction.
Results: all soccer players were within the normal range values for anthropometric parameters studies, when compared with other adolescent elite soccer teams. Values of plasma glucose, urea, creatinine, uric acid, lipid profile and total proteins were within normal range for young adult population, although albumin levels were high. Moreover, 14% and 20% of soccer players presented hyperuricemia and elevated total cholesterol levels respectively. Energy expenditure and intake were within normal range for all teenager elite soccer players. However, two teams shower significant lower intakes than demands. All macronutrient intakes were within recommendations, except protein that was higher. Micronutrient intake exceeded the recommendations for general population. Soccer players had pre- and post-exercise meals with an appropriate range of carbohydrates. Food intake was mainly based on cereals, derivatives and potatoes; meat, poultry, fish, shellfish and eggs and biscuits and confectionery and poor in fruit, vegetables and milk and dairy products.
Conclusions: the population of soccer players did not have optimal nutritional habits. However, their nutritional intake and status was better than in other published studies. The main problems of these teams were that they had a high protein diet and that in some teams the nutritional intake was not enough to cover the demands. Finally, nutritional intake was found to be of poor quality. Thus, we recommend nutritional education for soccer players of these teams.

Abstract The European PARTNER project developed a prototypical system for sharing hadron therapy data. This system allows doctors and patients to record and report treatment-related events during and after hadron therapy. It presents doctors and statisticians with an integrated view of adverse events across institutions, using open-source components for data federation, semantics, and analysis. There is a particular emphasis upon semantic consistency, achieved through intelligent, annotated form designs. The system as presented is ready for use in a clinical setting, and amenable to further customization. The essential contribution of the work reported here lies in the novel data integration and reporting methods, as well as the approach to software sustainability achieved through the use of community-supported open-source components.

Abstract A case of massive haemolytic anaemia in the course of a C. perfringens sepsis of hepatic origin is presented. The diagnosis was strongly suggested by the presence of intragranulocytic capsulated bacilli in a Giemsa stained peripheral blood smear. The patient developed disseminated intravascular coagulation. The outcome was fatal and the patient died eight hours after admission. We review the aetiopathogenesis, diagnosis and therapy of haemolysis in Clostridium perfringens infections.
