    Abstract A key factor restricting the application of biochar in the steel industry is its high-quality upgrading. This paper evaluated the characteristics of hydrochar produced by HTC (hydrothermal carbonization) process of corncob to be used as a solid fuel. HTC temperatures (240-300 °C) and HTC water-reused times (1-3 times) were examined for their effects on hydrochar yield, physicochemical characteristics, and combustion properties. The results showed hydrochar yields, O/C, and H/C parameters decreased as HTC temperature and water-reused times increased, while its high heating value increased. Due to dehydration and decarboxylation, hydrochar showed similar characteristics to those in bituminous coal. The removal efficiency of alkali metal K reached 99% after HTC treatment. Carbonaceous hydrochar had become more compact, orderly, and stable with increasing amounts of aromatic functional groups, C = C, and C = O. Hydrochar, as a biofuel, has higher ignition energy and is more stable than corncob due to its high carbonaceous order degree.     Abstract Low lattice thermal conductivity (κL) is desirable for advancing thermoelectric (TE) materials and devices. However, κL depends on many factors such as phonon scattering sources, electron–phonon interactions, etc. It remains not fully understood how κL is influenced by excited electron–hole (e–h) pairs ubiquitously present in thermoelectrics. To address this issue, the constrained density functional theory (CDFT) simulations are performed to investigate the phonon transport properties of two typical TE materials, Mg₂Si and PbTe. Surprisingly, at high e–h concentrations of ∼10²¹ cm–³, the κL of Mg₂Si is reduced significantly by ∼30% due to the softening phonon modes. In contrast, the κL of PbTe first decreases by ∼18% at a relatively low e–h concentration of 2.34 × 10²⁰ cm–³, but it is enhanced by ∼3.4% as the carrier concentration increases to 7.02 × 10²⁰ cm–³. The different behaviors of these two materials arise from the different distributions of excess electrons and holes under e–h excitation. The simulation results suggest that controlling e–h pairs may offer a promising approach to design high-performance TE devices.

    Abstract This paper aims to provide a quick review of the methods including the technologies in detail that are currently reported in industry and academia. Specifically, this paper reviews the end-to-end planning, including Tesla FSD V12, Momenta 2023, Horizon Robotics 2023, Motional RoboTaxi 2022, Woven Planet (Toyota): Urban Driver, and Nvidia. In addition, we review the state-of-the-art academic studies that investigate end-to-end planning of autonomous driving. This paper provides readers with a concise structure and fast learning of state-of-the-art end-to-end planning for 2022-2023. This article provides a meaningful overview as introductory material for beginners to follow the state-of-the-art end-to-end planning of autonomous driving in industry and academia, as well as supplementary material for advanced researchers.

    Abstract Against the backdrop of a global malaria epidemic that remains severe, China has eradicated indigenous malaria but still has to be alert to the risk of external importation. Understanding the distribution of vectors can provide an adequate and reliable basis for the development and implementation of vector control strategies. However, with the decline of malaria prevalence in recent years, the capacity of vector monitoring and identification has been greatly weakened. Here we have used new sampling records, climatic data, and topographic data to establish ecological niche models of the three main malaria vectors in China. The model results accurately identified the current habitat suitability areas for the three species of Anopheles and revealed that in addition to precipitation and temperature as important variables affecting the distribution of Anopheles mosquitoes, topographic variables also influenced the distribution of Anopheles mosquitoes. Anopheles sinensis is the most widespread malaria vector in China, with a wide region from the northeast (Heilongjiang Province) to the southwest (Yunnan Province) suitable for its survival. Suitable habitat areas for Anopheles lesteri are concentrated in the central, eastern, and southern regions of China. The suitable habitat areas of Anopheles minimus are the smallest and are only distributed in the border provinces of southern China. On this basis, we further assessed the seasonal variation in habitat suitability areas for these three major malaria vectors in China. The results of this study provide new and more detailed evidence for vector monitoring. In this new era of imported malaria prevention in China, regular reassessment of the risk of vector transmission is recommended.
