Abstract Leptodactylus validus is reported for the first time for Colombia, corresponding to the tenth species of the L. melanonotus species group occurring in the country. In collections, all L. validus specimens were identified as L. colombiensis. Morphological, coloration, and ecological characters are provided to differentiate the two species in Colombia. Furthermore, the distribution of L. validus is expanded based on the examination of specimens in both collections and literature records. In addition, the advertisement call of L. validus from Colombia is compared with those reported for other continental and insular populations; the calls are slightly more similar to those of insular populations.

Abstract During an exploratory field trip, made to identify possible study areas in one of the isolated paramos north of the Arcabuco region (Boyacá, Colombia), a species of terrestrial frog assignable to the unistrigatus species group of the genus Pristimantis was discovered. It is similar in morphology to the species group with reduced discs formed by Pristimantis mnionaetes, P. nervicus and P. nicefori of the Cordillera Oriental of Colombia. These species allow the recognition of 10 species of this genus associated with high mountain environments in the Eastern Cordillera of Colombia. Data on their morphology, distribution and natural history and associated anurans reported from this geographical area are presented.

Abstract A new species of the genus Caecilia (Caeciliidae) from the western foothills of the Serranía de los Yariguíes in Colombia is described. Caecilia pulchraserrana sp. nov. is similar to C. degenerata and C. corpulenta but differs from these species in having fewer primary annular grooves and a shorter body length. With this new species, the currently recognized species in the genus are increased to 35. Mitochondrial DNA sequences, including newly sequenced terminals representing two additional, previously unanalyzed species, corroborate the phylogenetic position of the new species within Caecilia and the monophyly of the genus. This analysis also included newly sequenced terminals of Epicrionops aff. parkeri (Rhinatrematidae) and trans-Andean Microcaecilia nicefori (Siphonopidae). Evidence was found for the non-monophyly of the family Siphonopidae and the siphonopid genera Microcaecilia and Siphonops. The implications of these results for caecilian systematics are discussed and the status of the trans-Andean populations of Caecilia degenerata is commented upon.

Abstract A new species of Pristimantis (Craugastoridae, subgenus Pristimantis) is described from a relict and unexplored cloud forest in the western slope from Cordillera Oriental of the Colombian Andes. The specific name was chosen by consensus expert scientists and local people. Pristimantis chamezensis sp. nov. is easily distinguished from congeneric species by having a gray iris with black reticulations in life, subconical tubercles on the upper eyelid, the chin edged with irregular, dark-brown blotches, and conical heel tubercles. The phylogenetic analyses suggest that the origin and radiation of its clade may have occurred in the highlands. With the description of P. chamezensis sp. nov., we identify 14 species distributed throughout the eastern slope of the Andes that are associated with the Orinoco Basin.

Abstract As a result of fieldwork carried out between 1999 and 2005, aimed at and evaluation of the composition of amphibian assemblages in Tatacoa dry forest and its area of influence in the upper Magdalena valley, along with a review of the records of the available scientific literature, 29 species are recorded. One of the characteristics of the amphibian fauna in this region is its strong space-temporality, in which the presence of some species is affected by the rainy seasons and availability of habitat. Some species, considered characteristic of the Middle Magdalena Region, are here reported farther to the south.

Abstract A description of the amphibian fauna, associated with three localities in the dry forest and wetlands in the Department of Sucre, Colombia. Aspects of the natural history of the species recorded and related the degree of similarity with other previously described faunas in the Caribbean region are described. From surveys conducted species considered typical of wet zones were reported and extending the known distributions for various species considered exclusive to the Andean foothills and lowlands of the Pacific.
