Abstract γ-Aminobutyric acid (GABA) and GABA derivatives have attracted increased attention over the years in the fields of medicinal chemistry and chemical biology due to their interesting biological properties and synthetic relevance. Here, we report a short synthetic route to γ-(het)aryl- and γ-alkenyl-γ-aminobutyric acids, including the antiepileptic drug

Abstract In this article, a novel method of simultaneous carborane- and gadolinium-containing compounds as efficient agents for neutron capture therapy (NCT) delivery via magnetic nanocarriers is presented. The presence of both Gd and B increases the efficiency of NCT and using nanocarriers enhances selectivity. These factors make NCT not only efficient, but also safe. Superparamagnetic Fe

Abstract Magnetic nanocomposites based on hydroxyapatite were prepared by a one-step process using the hydrothermal coprecipitation method to sinter iron oxides (Fe 3 O 4 and γ-Fe 2 O 3 ). The possibility of expanding the proposed technique for the synthesis of magnetic composite with embedded biologically active substance (BAS) of the 2-arylaminopyrimidine group was shown. The composition, morphology, structural features, and magnetic characteristics of the nanocomposites synthesized with and without BAS were studied. The introduction of BAS into the composite synthesis resulted in minor changes in the structural and physical properties. The specificity of the chemical bonds between BAS and the hydroxyapatite-magnetite core was revealed. The kinetics of the BAS release in a solution simulating the stomach environment was studied. The cytotoxicity of (HAP)FexOy and (HAP)FexOy + BAS composites was studied in vitro using the primary culture of human liver carcinoma cells HepG2. The synthesized magnetic composites with BAS have a high potential for use in the biomedical field, for example, as carriers for magnetically controlled drug delivery and materials for bone tissue engineering.

Abstract Explanatory imprecisions of concept of globular pearlite and ferrite-carbide-mixture are considered. The need of concept binding of globular pearlite to specific grain with 0.8% carbon content is explained with the assistance of exemplary data obtained at the present metallographic equipment. The question of educational material presentation concerning the process of teaching of discipline «Materials and construction materials technology» is discussed in relation to the educational process of technical universities, in particular, the Belarusian State Agrarian Technical University.

Abstract Neutron capture therapy is a promising method for cancer treatment based on the targeted delivery of specific isotopes into cancer cells and subsequent irradiation with epithermal neutrons. As a result, a large amount of energy is released at a distance comparable to the size of the cell, destroying it from the inside. Magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles can be used for the targeted delivery of isotopes. In this article, iron oxide nanoparticles (Fe3O4) were modified with silanes and polyelectrolyte complexes for simultaneous immobilization of gadolinium ions and carborane compounds through ionic interaction for potential application in targeted delivery into cancer cells for neutron capture therapy. Structure, size and element composition was elucidated by the Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDA), dynamic light scattering (DLS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. It was found that, according to EDA, resulting nanoparticles consist of 15.4 % boron and 1.5 % gadolinium, with average hydrodynamical size of 386 nm measured by DLS. An in vitro cytotoxicity test using HepG2 (a cancer cell line) and human skin fibroblasts (a normal cell line) showed minor cytotoxicity in concentration range from 0.05 to 1 mg/mL.

Abstract To explore the underlying mechanism of cancer cell growth inhibition by brassinosteroids (BS), reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation under treatment with 28-homocastasterone and its synthetic derivatives (22S,23S)-28-homocastasterone was measured in A549 human lung adenocarcinoma cells. BS induced ROS generation in A549 cells and their growth in a time and dose-dependent manner. The maximal effect was observed for (22S,23S)-28-homocastasterone which at 30μM concentration showed a 6-fold increase of ROS generation in comparison with the control.
