Titelübersetzung New applications of capsule endoscopy: PILLCAMTM ESO.
Abstract Capsule endoscopy has opened a new era in small bowel examination. Its indications are now well-defined and currently, wireless capsule endoscopy is considered as the first-line imaging tool for the diagnosis of small bowel diseases. ECE has been shown to be feasible, safe and a good alternative technique in patients refusing conventional endoscopy. Although results reported in both GERD and cirrhotic patients are encouraging, great differences in terms of accuracy (particularly in GERD patients) have been found in published studies. These differences have been attributed to study designs, the lack of adequate experience and inconvenience of ingestion protocols. In summary, more large-scale studies evaluating the new 14-fps capsule, adequate ECE-experience and new modified ingestion protocols are still needed.

Abstract Reports indicate that silver nanoparticles (nAg) are toxic to vegetation, but little is known about their effects in crop plants. This study examines the impacts of nAg on the physiology and nutritional quality of radish (Raphanus sativus) sprouts. Seeds were germinated and grown for 5 days in nAg suspensions at 0, 125, 250, and 500 mg/L. Seed germination and seedling growth were evaluated with traditional methodologies; the uptake of Ag and nutrients was quantified by inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) and changes in macromolecules were analyzed by infrared (IR) spectroscopy. None of the nAg concentrations reduced seed germination. However, the water content (% of the total weight) was reduced by 1.62, 1.65, and 2.54% with exposure to 125, 250, and 500 mg/L, respectively, compared with the control. At 500 mg/L, the root and shoot lengths were reduced by 47.7 and 40%, with respect to the control. The seedlings exposed to 500 mg/L had 901 ± 150 mg Ag/kg dry wt and significantly less Ca, Mg, B, Cu, Mn, and Zn, compared with the control. The infrared spectroscopy analysis showed changes in the bands corresponding to lipids (3000-2800 cm(-1)), proteins (1550-1530 cm(-1)), and structural components of plant cells such as lignin, pectin, and cellulose. These results suggest that nAg could significantly affect the growth, nutrient content and macromolecule conformation in radish sprouts, with unknown consequences for human health.

Veranstaltung/Kongress 29th OIV World Congress of Vine and Wine. 4th General Assembly of the OIV, 25-30 June 2006, Logrono, Spain
Abstract In the fining of young red wines, the most used fining agent is gelatine. In last years alternative proteins to gelatine have been studied, most of them from vegetal origin. In studies of red wine finings, compared to gelatine, have shown a good fining capacity, basically glutens from wheat (Marchal *et al.*, 2002; Maury *et al.*, 2003; Iturmendi *et al.*, 2005) and gluten from corn (Iturmendi *et al.*, 2005). These vegetal proteins also produced less lees volume in finings. The OIV General Assembly in 2004 adopted several resolutions to allow the use of proteins from vegetal origin, specifically gluten from wheat (*Triticum sp.*) and from pea (*Pisum sativum*) as fining agents in wines (Resolution OENO 8/2004, 9/2004 and 28/2004). In december of 2005 European Council regulation nº 2165/2005 was approved, which amending Council regulation (CE) nº 1493/1999, allowing the addition of protein materials from vegetal origin in treatments of wine and must. The aim of this study is to determinate the temperature influence in finings of monovarietal (cv. 'Tempranillo') young red wines with gluten; this work is carried out with gelatine, which is usually used in fining of wine, as control fining agent. Selected proteins for this study are glutens both natives and hydrolyzed, from different origin. The effect on principal technological parameters of clarification have been studied. [A 3859]

Abstract Capsule endoscopy is now considered as the first imaging tool for small bowel examination. Recently, new capsule endoscopy applications have been developed, such as esophageal capsule endoscopy and colon capsule endoscopy. Esophageal capsule endoscopy in patients with suspected esophageal disorders is feasible and safe, and could be also an alternative procedure in those patients refusing upper endoscopy. Although large-scale studies are needed to confirm its utility in GERD and cirrhotic patients, current results are encouraging and open a new era in esophageal examination.
