Abstract Gibberellins (GAs), which form a large family of phytohormones involved in almost every step of plant life and development, were discovered almost a century ago. The molecular characterization of GA metabolism and signalling mechanisms now provides explanations for the multiple crosstalk and the integration of external signals required for plants to adapt their development and growth to environmental conditions. In this review, we present the molecular elements of GA metabolism and signalling pathways, with emphasis on the key role of the GA/GID1/DELLA complex as a conserved developmental integrator. Further, we discuss how the GA signalling pathway, together with feedback regulation on GA metabolism, contributes to the integration of endogenous and exogenous signals to provide an adaptive output.

Abstract Background: Even among minors, the use of psychotropic substances is widespread in Europe. Data on the use of tobacco, alcohol and cannabis are regularly reported in Germany, but data on problematic use are lacking. In the present study, established screening instruments were used to investigate the prevalence of problematic use of cigarettes, alcohol and cannabis among children and adolescents.
Methods: A survey that was designed to be representative was conducted across Germany in a sample of 4001 persons aged 12-17. The survey consisted of established screening instruments for problematic consumption patterns and related psychosocial aspects. Prevalences were estimated, and bivariate and multivariate associated characteristics were studied.
Results: Among 12- to 17-year-olds in Germany, the prevalence values (with 95% confidence intervals) of problematic use were: for cigarettes, 0.5% [0.3; 0.7]; for alcohol, 11.3% [10.3; 12.3]; and for cannabis, 0.5% [0.3; 0.7]. For the problematic use of cigarettes, alcohol and cannabis, there were both bivariate and multivariate statistically significant associations with greater psychopathology, lower mindfulness, and a lower quality of life. For example, greater psychopathology and stress experience were both associated with an increased risk of problematic cannabis use (odds ratios 1.21 [1.11; 1.31] and 1.59 [1.33; 1.88]).
Conclusion: A comparison with the few available previous findings implies that problematic alcohol consumption has become more prevalent. There were both similarities and differences across the three substances studied with respect to patterns of problematic consumption, particularly in relation to the experience of stress.

Title translation Substance-related disorders and transition psychiatry.
Abstract Background: Addictive disorders are typically manifested during adolescence and have a high transmission rate into adulthood. When adulthood is reached the responsibility by the child and adolescent psychiatric care system ends and patients transition to adult psychiatry. A lack of supportive concepts and approaches to this transition can have detrimental effects on the long-term health of affected individuals.
Objective: Addiction treatment requirements of young adults transitioning between the systems of care are presented. Developmental psychopathological concepts are presented and treatment recommendations are provided.
Material and methods: The scientific literature on development-related approaches to addiction treatment was evaluated. Care conditions relevant to transitional psychiatry are discussed and a description of needs is carried out.
Results: Adolescents and young adults are very frequently affected by addictive disorders. The need for disorder-specific and age-specific transition-related concepts and services for these patients is high. During the transition from child and adolescent psychiatry to the psychiatric care system for adults, patients with substance-related disorders require treatment-related educational and age-appropriate psychosocial support services that address the high comorbidity and developmental delays.
Conclusion: Age-specific and disorder-specific treatment services should be broadly expanded and the interfaces to youth welfare, addiction counseling and adult psychiatry should be better coordinated.

Title translation Substance use and the usage of social media, computer games, and gambling among apprentices at vocational schools.
Abstract Background: The aim of the current study was to assess the prevalence of the (problematic) consumption of alcohol, tobacco, and cannabis as well as the (problematic) use of social media, e‑products, computer games, and gambling among apprentices.
Method: Cross-sectional survey of 4591 apprentices at 17 vocational schools from Bavaria, Schleswig-Holstein, and Hamburg. Data was collected using questionnaires between March 2021 and April 2022. The primary endpoints were the 30-day prevalence and the problematic consumption and usage behavior of the mentioned substances/behaviors using screening instruments.
Results: Among the assessed substances/behaviors, social media were used most frequently by the apprentices with a 30-day prevalence of 97.7%, followed by alcohol (64.3%) and computer games (55.8%). Cigarettes were consumed by 35.1%, e‑products by 17.9%, and cannabis by 15.4% of the apprentices. Of the apprentices, 12.2% reported having gambled in the past 30 days. Rates of problematic use were 47.4% for alcohol, 18.0% for tobacco, 6.2% for e‑products, and 1.6% for cannabis. Problematic use of social media was indicated by 45.0% of the apprentices, of gambling by 2.2%, and of computer games by 0.7%.
Discussion: These results suggest that apprentices constitute a risk group for problematic substance use, indicating increased need for intervention. In particular, secondary prevention efforts in the areas of alcohol and social media should be taken into consideration due to their widespread prevalence in the vocational school setting.

Title translation Methamphetamine : Epidemiology, clinical importance and sequelae of abuse.
Abstract Methamphetamine (also known as meth and crystal meth) is a highly psychoactive synthetic amphetamine type stimulant, which falls under the German Federal Narcotics Law. The substance is similar to other stimulants but has distinct features with respect to psychoactive effects, clinical symptoms, user characteristics and short and long-term consequences including substance-induced problems and comorbidities. The consumption and misuse of crystal meth is still limited to certain regions in Germany; however, the substance causes significant clinical and public health concerns in the affected regions and beyond due to the associated high potential for misuse and dependence, neurotoxic and neurodegenerative effects as well as many other severe health risks. The new German guidelines for methamphetamine use disorders are now available to provide clinicians with the current knowledge on effective diagnostics and treatment planning.
