Abstract Synthetic dyes have been abundantly used recently as additives in different kinds of processed foods to enhance their color, appearance, and flavor. Nonetheless, many reports announce high hazards to human health from artificial colorants, particularly in concentrations exceeding the limit. In this paper, an economical and efficient nanocomposite film based on ruthenium oxide nanofibers/poly(sulfosalicylic acid) (RuO₂ NFs/PSSA) was synthesized for sensitive determination of sunset yellow in different food samples. At first, RuO₂ NFs were fabricated by electrospinning method. Subsequently, a commercial carbon paste electrode (CPE) was employed as a substrate for the preparation of RuO₂ NFs/PSSA via an electrochemical deposition process. It was clearly observed that RuO₂ NFs/PSSA/CPE enhanced the redox peak currents of sunset yellow conspicuously and could determine it sensitively and separately at its low concentrations. Under the optimum operating conditions, linear calibration curves were obtained in the range of 0.0005–0.1 and 0.1–9.0 μM with a detection limit of 0.38 nM. The prominent performance of the sensing platform originated from the hybrid composition and integrality of the electrospun nanofibers membrane. The embedded PSAA not only improved the membrane conductivity of the RuO₂ NFs to promote sunset yellow adsorption but also provided vacancies to accommodate sunset yellow, therefore enhancing the electrochemical performance of RuO₂ NFs in diagnostic performance.

Abstract This paper reports the production of a novel magnetic nanocomposite based on core-shell Fe₃O₄@Ag nanoparticles. Fe₃O₄@Ag nanoparticles were used to fabricate a modified carbon paste electrode (Fe₃O₄@Ag/CPE). Fe₃O₄@Ag/CPE was investigated for the simultaneous determination of tryptophan (Trp) and tyrosine (Tyr) in an aqueous media (0.1 M phosphate buffer solution, pH 6.5) using square wave voltammetry. The synthesized nanocomposite was characterized by transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction spectroscopy. The proposed electrode for Trp and Tyr exhibits linearity in the range of 0.5–100 µM with detection limits of 0.05 and 0.04 µM for Trp and Tyr, respectively. The novel proposed voltammetric method was successfully applied to the simultaneous determination of serum Trp and Tyr levels of chronic kidney disease patients with results similar to those obtained using a high performance liquid chromatography method at a 95% confidence level.

Abstract Aflatoxin B₁ is a potent liver toxin and easily accumulated in foodstuff and environment via the food chain, subjecting high hazards to human health. Rapid initial diagnosis is one of the most impressive monitoring procedures to overcome the potential hazards. Nevertheless, the classical approaches confront many limitations, like low specificity and sensitivity and complicated procedures. Herein, a photo-electrochemical aptasensor based on sensitized poly(dopamine)@functionalized multiwall carbon nanotube/titanium dioxide (PDA@f-MWCNTs/TiO₂ NTs) was designed to detect aflatoxin B₁ in real samples (e.g. groundnut and milk). The mentioned label-free biosensing platform not only needed simple operations but also presented outstanding reusability, storage stability, reproducibility, and specificity simultaneously. This suggested strategy could sensitively and selectively detect aflatoxin B₁ with dynamic range of 0.005–50 ng/mL and a low limit of detection 1 pg/mL. This procedure could provide the bright prospect for detection of aflatoxin B₁ residues in foodstuff.

Abstract The present work introduces an innovative biosensing platform for greatly sensitive determination of levodopa medicine. Initially, spherical magnetic (SM) nanoparticles were prepared by hydrothermal fabrication approach and used as a pattern to make spherical magnetic molecular imprinted polymer (SMMIP). Afterward, levodopa-molecularly imprinted layer was grown on the surface of the spherical magnetic pattern by electropolymerization with dopamine and resorcinol as bi-functional monomers and levodopa as a template molecule, which enhanced the specific recognition of the sensing platform to levodopa. The presence of SM nanoparticles could not only accelerate the mass transfer, the electron transport rate, and improve specific surface area of the electrode but also facilitate the recognition of the polymer, in this way increasing the current response and improving the performance of the biosensor. The superior sensing efficiency of the presented biosensor was confirmed based on the low limit of detection of 10 nmol L

Abstract Herein, for the first time, we developed a facile and sensitive method for the determination of edifenphos (EDI). An aptamer (APT) covalently attached on the surface of a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was covered with a nanocomposite composed of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (f-MWCNTs). To promote electron transfer, amplify the signal and increase the stability of the electrode, this nanocomposite was deposited on the GCE in two steps. In the first step, graphene oxide (GO) and f-MWCNTs were deposited on the GCE (f-MWCNT–GO/GCE). In the next step, electrochemical reduction afforded the rGO and f-MWCNT nanocomposite (f-MWCNT–rGO). Following that, aminated APT was immobilized on the f-MWCNT–rGO/GCE through the covalent coupling of APT and the carboxylate groups of f-MWCNT–rGO (APT/f-MWCNT–rGO/GCE). This modified electrode was evaluated by electrochemical methods, including cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The obtained data from DPV, under optimized conditions, showed a wide linear range from 0.001 to 1300 nmol L−1, and the detection limit (LOD) was 0.1 pmol L−1. Moreover, the fabricated aptasensor exhibited good stability, reproducibility, and rapid response for EDI in real samples.
