Abstract Background: Dental implants require good surgical and prosthetic skills with special training for successful treatment outcomes.
Aim: To assess the knowledge of the dental practitioners in Palestine about the therapeutic trends in implant dentistry.
Materials and methods: The present study is a cross-sectional questionnaire study among dental practitioners registered in Palestinian dental association. All practitioners who consented and completely filled the questionnaire were included in the study. All participants were asked basic demographic questions, and their attitude towards basic and advanced dental implant trends was assessed. Chi-square test was used to associate a correlation between the area of location of the clinic and responses to the questionnaire (p<0.05).
Results: Most of the dental practitioners were aware about the basic implant therapeutic trends. However, since most of the practitioners included in the present study had limited years of experience, they referred the advanced implant procedures to senior practitioners.
Conclusion: Dental practitioners in Palestine have good knowledge on the dental implant therapeutic trends. However, they do not carry out the advanced implant procedures and usually refer them to senior practitioners. There is no variation in the knowledge of the implant therapeutic trends based on varying locations of dental clinics.

Abstract Aim: To report the radiographic preferences during dental implant therapy in Palestine.
Materials and methods: Fourteen multiple-choice questions were delivered in electronic and hardcopy formats questionnaires during the Sixth International Implantology Conference (Palestine). The questions investigated the radiographic techniques that are mostly used based on various clinical scenarios and treatment phases.
Results: One hundred and thirty-seven responses were captured. The majority of the participants were general dentists with implant experience (79.6%). Less than a third of the participants (27.2%) were members of the Palestinian Association of Dental Implantology. The majority (85.9%) of them have their practice in a city zone. Panoramic radiograph (PAN) combined with cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) was the most preferred radiographic technique during the planning stage.
Conclusion: PAN and CBCT was the preferred choice during the planning stages. A PAN was preferred postoperatively and if no complications were associated. In the case of symptomatic patients, CBCT was the radiograph of choice.

Abstract Introduction: While the ideal approach in dentistry is to preserve teeth and restore their functionality within the oral cavity, there are circumstances where tooth extraction becomes a necessary and routine dental procedure. In cases where preserving the tooth is not feasible due to unavoidable reasons, extraction may be the preferred choice to ensure the attainment of stable oral health. So, the present study aims to elaborate on the trends in extraction in student dental clinics in Palestine.
Materials and methods: The present study is a cross-sectional study. Informed consent was obtained from the participants before enrolling in the study. Patients from all the departments undergoing extraction procedures were included in the present study. Patient information such as age, sex, and main reason for tooth extraction was collected. A dental record was noted for the number of teeth extracted, the type of the teeth, and the condition of the teeth extracted. All the data collected was entered in the spreadsheet, and frequency was calculated for each variable.
Results: The present study showed that third molars were the most extracted teeth, and dental caries was the primary cause of extraction. In the "clearance cases," lower canines were the most commonly extracted teeth. In the "non-clearance cases," lower incisors and lower first molars were the most commonly extracted teeth.  Conclusion: The present study gives an overview of tooth extraction patterns in student dental clinics in Palestine. Further studies are required to evaluate and compare the prevalence and causes of tooth loss in different settings.

Abstract Quality of Service (QoS) is a mechanism used in computer networks to prioritize, classify, and treat packets differently based on certain criteria. This helps the switching devices to schedule and reorder packets if there is congestion in the network. Edge routers experience high traffic congestion as a result of traffic aggregation from the internal network devices. A router can have multiple QoS classes configured, and each class could experience traffic at various rates. However, when a QoS class is underperforming or needs more bandwidth, some bandwidth can be borrowed or leased out to another QoS class to ensure the link is utilized to maximum capacity and the highest throughput is achieved. This article proposes a bandwidth allocation and distribution algorithm that purely uses the flow statistics from the OpenFlow switches to allocate bandwidth to different QoS classes optimally based on their current requirement. The algorithm does not guarantee in advance that the packet loss will be minimized but does guarantee the initial minimum bandwidth allocation. It adjusts the flows' rates with the aim to increase their current throughput. The algorithm uses the Software Defined Networking (SDN) controller's flow monitoring component to query the flow statistics from the switch to first approximate the traffic flow rate and then calculate the optimal bandwidth values to assign to each QoS class. The proposed algorithms will be applied to certain switches in the path with the assumption that all the switches are OpenFlow compatible. The algorithm's performance was compared with the Adaptive Quality of Service (AQoS) algorithm over various traffic scenarios. The results show that the proposed algorithm achieves an average of 9% performance gain compared to the AQoS algorithm.

Abstract Background: Vitamin C is an essential nutrient for the health of gingival and periodontal tissues due to its antioxidant potential.
Aim: To assess the levels of vitamin C in different stages and grades of periodontitis.
Materials and methods: The present study follows a cross-sectional study design and was conducted in a private dental clinic in Palestine. The present study involves the collection of serum to assess the vitamin C deficiency in patients with existing periodontal diseases. Mann-Whitney
Results: There was a significantly lower vitamin C level in patients with Stage IV periodontitis as compared to the early stages of periodontitis. However, there was no difference between the other stages of periodontitis.
Conclusion: Vitamin C deficiency might be considered as one of the risk factors in periodontitis.

Abstract Background: Learning approach strategies are an important factor to obtain knowledge in any professional course. Surface approach learning and deep approach learning are two main types of learning strategies.
Aim: The aim of present study was to evaluate the study approach strategies of dental students in Palestine.
Materials and methods: The present study follows a cross-sectional study design, which includes 250 students from first year to fifth year at Al Quds University. The present study evaluated the study approach using a questionnaire called R-SPQ-2F that was filled by all the students using Google forms. The assessment scores from the curriculum assessment examination were also compared with the scores of the R-SPQ-2F questionnaire. SPSS software was used to analyze data.
Results: The results of the ANOVA show that the students in the fifth years had significantly higher mean scores of deep learning approaches than other years (
Conclusion: Deep learning approach can provide better academic outcome. Newer teaching strategies that enhance the deep learning approach should be encouraged in the dental curriculum.

Abstract Understanding the spread of diseases through complex networks is of great interest where realistic, heterogeneous contact patterns play a crucial role in the spread. Most works have focused on mean-field behavior-quantifying how contact patterns affect the emergence and stability of (meta)stable endemic states in networks. On the other hand, much less is known about longer time scale dynamics, such as disease extinction, whereby inherent process stochasticity and contact heterogeneity interact to produce large fluctuations that result in the spontaneous clearance of infection. Here we show that heterogeneity in both susceptibility and infectiousness (incoming and outgoing degree, respectively) has a nontrivial effect on extinction in directed contact networks, both speeding up and slowing down extinction rates depending on the relative proportion of such edges in a network, and on whether the heterogeneities in the incoming and outgoing degrees are correlated or anticorrelated. In particular, we show that weak anticorrelated heterogeneity can increase the disease stability, whereas strong heterogeneity gives rise to markedly different results for correlated and anticorrelated heterogeneous networks. All analytical results are corroborated through various numerical schemes including network Monte Carlo simulations.
