Abstract ABSTRACT Studies aiming at improving the activity and stability of dispersed W and Mo containing Pt catalysts for the CO tolerance in proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) anodes are revised for the following catalyst systems: (1) a carbon supported PtMo electrocatalyst submitted to heat treatments; (2) Pt and PtMo nanoparticles deposited on carbon-supported molybdenum carbides (Mo2C/C); (3) ternary and quaternary materials formed by PtMoFe/C, PtMoRu/C and PtMoRuFe/C and; (4) Pt nanoparticles supported on tungsten carbide/carbon catalysts and its parallel evaluation with carbon supported PtW catalyst. The heat-treated (600 oC) Pt-Mo/C catalyst showed higher hydrogen oxidation activity in the absence and in the presence of CO and better stability, compared to all other Mo-containing catalysts. PtMoRuFe, PtMoFe, PtMoRu supported on carbon and Pt supported on Mo2C/C exhibited similar CO tolerances but better stability, as compared to as-prepared PtMo supported on carbon. Among the tungsten-based catalysts, tungsten carbide supported Pt catalyst showed reasonable performance and reliable stability in comparison to simple carbon supported PtW catalyst, though an uneven level of catalytic activity towards H2 oxidation in presence of CO is observed for the former as compared to Mo containing catalyst. However, a small dissolution of Mo, Ru, Fe and W from the anodes and their migration toward cathodes during the cell operation is observed. These results indicate that the fuel cell performance and stability has been improved but not yet totally resolved.

Abstract Non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) can control the flux of genetic information; affect RNA stability and play crucial roles in mediating epigenetic modifications. A number of studies have highlighted the potential roles of both virus-encoded and host-encoded ncRNAs in viral infections, transmission and therapeutics. However, the role of an emerging type of non-coding transcript, circular RNA (circRNA) in severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection has not been fully elucidated so far. Moreover, the potential pathogenic role of circRNA-miRNA-mRNA regulatory axis has not been fully explored as yet. The current study aimed to holistically map the regulatory networks driven by SARS-CoV-2 related circRNAs, miRNAs and mRNAs to uncover plausible interactions and interplay amongst them in order to explore possible therapeutic options in SARS-CoV-2 infection. Patient datasets were analyzed systematically in a unified approach to explore circRNA, miRNA, and mRNA expression profiles. CircRNA-miRNA-mRNA network was constructed based on cytokine storm related circRNAs forming a total of 165 circRNA-miRNA-mRNA pairs. This study implies the potential regulatory role of the obtained circRNA-miRNA-mRNA network and proposes that two differentially expressed circRNAs hsa_circ_0080942 and hsa_circ_0080135 might serve as a potential theranostic agents for SARS-CoV-2 infection. Collectively, the results shed light on the functional role of circRNAs as ceRNAs to sponge miRNA and regulate mRNA expression during SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Abstract Fanconi anemia (FA) is a genetic disorder that occurs when certain genes responsible for repairing DNA replication and promoting homologous recombination fail to function properly. This leads to severe clinical symptoms and a wide range of cancer-related characteristics. Recent treatment approaches for FA involve hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), which helps restore the population of stem cells. A survival study using p-values indicated that specific hub genes play a significant role in diagnosing and predicting the disease. To find potential medications that interact with the identified hub genes, researchers inferred drugs. Among hub genes, TP53 was found to be particularly promising through computational analysis. Further investigation focused on two drugs, Topiramate and Tocofersolan predicted based on drug bank database analysis. Molecular docking strategies were employed to assess the best binding pose of these drugs with TP53. Topiramate showed a binding affinity of -6.5 kcal/mol, while Tocofersolan showed -8.5 kcal/mol against the active residues within the binding pocket. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations were conducted to observe the stability of each drug's interaction with the TP53 protein over time. Both drugs exhibited stable confirmation with only slight changes in the loop region of the TP53 protein during the simulation intervals. Results also shows that there was a high fluctuation observed during apo-sate simulation time intervals as compared to complex system. Hence, it is suggested that the exploration of structure-based drug design holds promising results to specific target. This could potentially lead to a breakthrough in future experimental approaches for FA treatment.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Sarma.

Abstract Nano-flocks of a bimetallic organic framework (NiCo-MOF) were grown on a nickel mesh and covered with a graphene oxide aerosol skeleton by employing a nebulizer air compressor. The resulting material induces a high accessible active surface area and shows enhanced electrocatalytic activity towards the hydrogen evolution reaction with excellent stability in alkaline medium.
