Abstract dental implants: a bibliometric analysis of 20 top cited articles. J Pak Med Assoc. PMID: 37427629.”1was published in June 2023. We believe that the reader has mixed up this paper with an earlier paper of ours, titled “A bibliometric analysis of the studies on dental implant failure. J Pak Med Assoc. PMID: 35202375.2 Dental implants have two types of failures: surgical (related to implant fixture, its placement techniques and bone biology etc.) and prosthetic (related to implant prosthesis, crown, abutment, other components, or technical issues arising from laboratory made implant prosthesis). The former paper was about identifying the top-cited publications on the surgical failures of implants whereas the latter bibliometrics related to the implant prosthetic complications. Regarding methodology of bibliometrics, the search terms we adopted for the first paper was “dental implant failure” whereas for the second paper, we employed “Prosthetic complication in dental implant” without using any Boolean operator. These key terms were searched in the abstracts using Web of Science, Google Scholar, and other electronic sources published in English language upto June 2021. We employed the option of “cited reference search” for ascertaining the number of citations. To review and synthesise the data, multiple parameters were explored. These included authors, journal, citation count, citation density, keywords and study design, and geographic and institutional affiliation of the first or corresponding authors. The country of literature emergence was determined by the address of the corresponding author. The details of methodology are already shared in the above-mentioned papers. Another important observation made by the reader was that the table 2 and table 3 displayed the same information that has already been shared in table 1. So why was it done? And that too in both the papers. The answer to this question is that although table 1 in both the papers displayed the primary bibliometric data but to stratify the data, ...

Abstract Herein, an Au nanoparticles-polydopamine-poly acrylic acid-graphene (Au NPs-PDA-PAA-graphene) multicomponent nanohybrid is fabricated by surface functionalization of graphene alongside extensive in-situ growth of Au nanoparticles. The as-obtained nanocomposite possesses good hydrophilicity, excellent biocompatibility and high biomolecules loading capacity, which acts as an ideal platform for enzyme modification. Considering this fact, Horseradish peroxidase is expressively immobilized upon Au NPs-PDA-PAA-graphene surface, in order to lay the foundations of a biosensor that is majorly based on enzymatic activity. The biosensor exhibits higher sensitivity towards the determination of H2O2 with linearity ranging from 0.1 μm upto 20 mm, and the limit of detection going down to 0.02 μm. Encouraged by its acceptable electrocatalytic performance, this multicomponent system can also be easily employed for carrying out the real-time tracking of H2O2 coming out of Macrophage cells. Therefore, this work designs an extraordinarily updated platform for biosensing related applications, and also presents a reliable platform for the direct detection of H2O2in vivo and in vitro, which show great potential in bioelectroanalytical chemistry, cellular biology, and pathophysiology.

Abstract Objectives To assess the impact and utility of an intensive care unit (ICU) rotation during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and the need for mandatory ICU rotations in training for all clinical specialties. Methods A mixed methods study was conducted from January to September 2021 at the Aga Khan University Hospital, including resident doctors who rotated through COVID ICU between May and September 2020. An online survey was undertaken, followed by two focused group discussions (FGDs). Results Fifty-nine complete responses out of a total of 86 were analyzed. Around 42.3% (n = 25) of doctors belonged to medicine/allied specialties and 57.6% (n = 34) had previous ICU experience. Both groups, with and without prior ICU experience, found the rotation equally challenging (82.3% (n = 28) versus 84% (n = 21), P = .776) and gained similar practical skills (35.3% (n = 12) versus 16% (n = 4), P = .072), however, those with experience gained significantly more knowledge (58.5% (n = 20) versus 32% (n = 8), P = .047). On opinion regarding mandatory ICU rotation, the majority agreed to have a mandatory rotation (82% (n = 28) versus 72% (n = 18), P = .421)) with an optimal duration of 1 to 2 months. The FGDs found that all residents encouraged the idea of mandatory training in ICU which must be tailored to their training specialty and suggested extending the duration beyond 1 week to ensure learning. Conclusions COVID ICU rotation was a good avenue for learning and the idea of mandatory ICU training was supported. Mandating ICU rotation might theoretically enhance response to emergencies. More research is needed to understand for feasible incorporation of ICU training in the curriculum.

Abstract Redox activity is an important indicator for evaluating electrochemical biosensors. In this work, we have successfully polymerized indole-5-carboxylic acid into poly-5-carboxyindole nanomaterials (PI-5-CA), using its superior redox activity, and introduced carboxylated single-walled carbon nanotubes (C-SWCNTs) to synthesize a composite material. Finally, a synthesized composite material was used for the modification of the glass carbon electrode to fabricate the PI-5-CA/C-SWCNTs/GCE-based immunosensor and was successfully applied for the sensitive detection of E. coli O157:H7. The fabricated immunosensor exhibited an outstanding electrocatalytic activity toward the detection of E. coli O157:H7 with a remarkably lowest limit of detection (2.5 CFU/ml, LOD = 3 SD/k, n = 3) and has a wide linear range from 2.98×101 to 2.98×107 CFU/ml. Inspired from the excellent results, the fabricated electrode was applied for the detection of bacteria from real samples (water samples) with a good recovery rate (98.13–107.69%) as well as an excellent stability and specificity. Owing to its simple preparation, excellent performance, and detection time within 30 min, our proposed immunosensor will open a new horizon in different fields for the sensitive detection of bacteria from real samples.

Abstract Abstract Maternal health is a major concern in Africa especially due to high level of maternal mortality in the region. A significant cause of high mortality is the unavailability of health facilities and preference for home-based delivery often carried out by unskilled health attendants. Reports reveal that 69% of young women in Nigeria opt for home-based delivery in Nigeria and some of these mothers lose their lives as a result of childbirth complications that are not properly attended to. This trend calls for urgent concern in the nation’s health system. Against this backdrop, this study examined the determinants of non-institutional delivery among women of reproductive age in Nigeria using the country’s National Demographic Health Survey [NDHS] (2018. Demographic health survey data. NPC and ICF, Abuja, Nigeria and Rockville. MD, USA) The data for this study include 12,567 of women of childbearing-age contained in the NDHS data. To analyse the data, the multilevel binary logistic regression was used to examine the determinants of non-institutional delivery among the women of childbearing-age. The results were presented using adjusted odds ratios (AOR) with 95% confidence interval. The result revealed that 56.8% of women preferred to have their children outside health institutions. The findings further revealed that educated women including urban dwellers, women with some level of formal education, high exposure to news media, high level of income and women with significant level of autonomy were less likely to deliver their babies outside health institutions. Based on the findings of the study, that there is the need to expand educational opportunities for Nigerian women, enhance and strengthen advocacy, and utilise focused group discussions, family outreach programmes and peer education to educate mothers on the benefits of using healthcare facilities during childbirth.

Abstract Background: Oral mucocele is considered to be a common benign lesion of the oral cavity characterized by fluctuant, painless and is distinct in two different forms, i.e. extravasations and retention. Trauma to mucus membrane or salivary gland is the most common etiologic factor. Case-Presentation: A 27-year-old female patient presented at the dental Out-patient Department (OPD) in our institute with the complaint of a swelling on the right side of her lower lip for the last three months. Management & Results: Based on the history & clinical examination, the diagnosis of oral mucocele was concluded. The treatment plan was discussed with the patient in which she was informed about the chairside surgical removal of the tissue under local anesthesia. On the 10th day of the surgery, sutures were removed, the scar was irrigated with saline and the usual check-up was performed which revealed no recurrence. Conclusion: Oral mucocele is a benign lesion, which can be managed with surgical excision under unremarkable prognosis.
