Abstract This article discusses the connection of virtual interaction, masculinity and bridal mysticism in the Moravian hymnbook Kleines Brüdergesangbuch (1754). Hereto, the motifs inherent in the hymnbook are examined according to the anthropological presentations as well as the perception of the divine, id est Jesus Christ, using mainly the conceptions of virtual interaction (S. Knauß) and hegemonic masculinity (R. Connell)

Abstract This study investigates the Old Irish glossing tradition on the Venerable Bede's De Temporum Ratione, a computistical work from the early eighth century. Its main source is the Vienna Bede, a fragmentary manuscript with Old Irish and Latin glosses dating from the late eighth/early ninth centuries. It focuses on parallel glosses found in the Gloss-ViBe corpus where the Vienna Bede has an Old Irish gloss and the other manuscripts feature glosses in another language (Latin or Old Breton/Welsh). Minute analysis of individual glosses is used to determine whether early medieval vernacular Celtic glosses originals or translations from Latin glosses? The heterogenic nature of early medieval gloss corpora makes this a complex question for which there is no straightforward answer: for some glosses, a translation from Latin into Irish is almost inevitable, but others suggest Irish influence on the Latin parallel glosses. Accordingly, each case is discussed individually and the results are synthesised in the final part of the article.

Abstract Ulnar claw hand usually occurs when the ulnar nerve is damaged distally. Claw hand deformity is characterized by metacarpophalangeal hyperextension and interphalangeal flexion, making it impossible to oppose the fingers and thumb. Bouvier's test is used to guide the procedure. Palliative surgery requires prior preparation of paralytic hands. In case of a positive Bouvier's test, Zancolli's lasso technique is preferred because of its effectiveness. Capsuloplasty with anteroposterior transosseous fixation is used if the bone is strong enough and when flexor digitorum profondus muscle is inactive and does not allow flexor digitorum superficialis tendon transfer. In case of a negative Bouvier's test with interphalangeal extension deficit of 45° of less, direct interossei muscle restoration techniques by active transfers are performed. If the interphalangeal extension deficit is more than 45°, proximal interphalangeal arthrodesis is indicated. Wartenberg first described actively irreducible abduction of the little finger. Wartenberg's sign is seen when ulnar paralysis occurs, and during ulnar nerve regeneration. Treatment of isolated Wartenberg's sign consists of re-routing the extensor digiti minimi. Among the other techniques, Belmahi's "tie lasso" is preferred when flexible claw hand is associated with Wartenberg's sign.

Abstract Objective: Describe the technique and results of a new sagittal plane computed tomography (CT) based angular measure for predicting stability following posterior wall acetabular fractures (PWF).
    Design: Retrospective review.
Setting: Academic Level II Trauma center.
Patients: Fifty-eight consecutive patients with PWF (AO/OTA class 62A.1), 98% were high energy injuries.
Intervention: A new sagittal CT (sCT) measure of PWF based upon the angle subtending the joint center, cranial and caudal fracture exits.
Outcome measures and comparisons: Hip incongruity or dislocation demonstrated using gold standard test, exam under anesthesia (EUA), or instability on static images. Prediction of hip instability utilizing a sCT angular measure based upon cranial and caudal fracture exits was compared to previous axial CT (aCT) measures suggestive of increased risk for instability including PW size >50%, and those with cranial exit within 5.0 mm of the acetabular dome.
Results: There were 32 operative and 26 nonoperatively treated fractures. Thirty were determined to be unstable, and 28 stable following EUA. Measurements of >70° using the sCT angular measure predicted instability in 28/28 patients, and ≤70° predicted stability in 30/30 patients (sensitivity 100% specificity 100%). Prevalence of EUA confirmed instability for subgroups with PWF based on prior aCT measures were as follows: ≥50% wall involvement 11/16 (sensitivity 67% specificity 60%; 95%CI 45-89%/45-75%), fracture within 5.0 mm of dome 5/18 (sensitivity 86%, specificity 73%; 95%CI 71-100%/59-87%), fracture within 5.0 mm of dome and ≥50% involvement 1/9 (sensitivity 89%, specificity 56%, 95%CI 69-100%/24-88%).
Conclusion: In a sample of 58 mostly high energy posterior wall fractures all having had an EUA, a new sagittal angular CT measurement of ≤70° predicted hip stability and >70° predicted instability with 100% sensitivity and specificity.
Level of evidence: Prognostic Level III. See Instructions for Authors for a complete description of levels of evidence.

Abstract The present experiment investigated performance in perceptual averaging of line ensembles during maintenance of minimal and near-span memory loads of digits. Observers memorized a four-to-seven digit number (high load) or a zero (low load) prior to a brief exposure (500 ms) of an ensemble of nine horizontal lines of various lengths. A subsequent probe line was then classified by observers as greater than or less than the ensemble average length followed by serial recall of the memory load. Slope analysis of the psychometric functions relating p("greater than") and the probe to ensemble-mean-size-ratio showed an advantage (steeper slope and therefore smaller threshold) for averaging under high-load compared with low-load conditions. Reaction time analysis indicated that faster probe responses were more accurate than slower responses.
