Abstract Introduction: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with significant morbidity, mortality, healthcare cost and reduced health-related quality of life (HRQoL). This study aimed to assess HRQoL and associated factors among patients with CKD at both Zewditu Memorial and Tikur Anbessa Specialised Hospitals, Ethiopia.
Method: A cross-sectional study design was performed. All patients who visited the renal clinics in both hospitals from March to July 2019 were targeted, and data were collected using interviews and medical records. HRQoL was assessed using the Kidney Disease and Quality of Life-36 tool. Normality assessment was done for HRQoL subscales. Descriptive statistics, logistic regression, t-test and one-way analysis of variance were performed.
Result: A total of 300 patients with CKD were included. Around 62% of them were in either stage 3 or 4 CKD. The mean domain scores of physical component summary (PCS), mental component summary (MCS), burden of kidney disease, effect of kidney disease and symptoms and problems of kidney disease (SPKD) subscales were 50.4, 59.5, 63.1, 74.6 and 80.4, respectively. The lowest HRQoL was seen in the PCS scale, while the highest was in SPKD. In addition, the study revealed that a lower level of education, elevated serum creatinine and a history of smoking were significantly associated with poor PCS score. Further, the presence of three or more comorbidities, CKD-related complications and a lower haemoglobin level were significantly associated with poor MCS.
Conclusion: The overall mean scores of PCS and MCS were low, below the standard level. Level of education, serum creatinine and smoking history were significantly associated with PCS, while the presence of comorbidity, complications and haemoglobin level were significantly associated with MCS. Stakeholders working on CKD management should design a relevant strategy targeting patients, patients' care providers and healthcare professionals to improve HRQoL of patients.

Abstract Background: Antepartum stillbirth is a public health problem in a low-income country like Ethiopia. Quality antenatal care (ANC) is supposed to reduce the risk of many bad outcomes. Thus the main objective of this study was to identify the effect of quality antenatal care on antepartum stillbirth in Public health facilities of Hossana town Hadiya zone south Ethiopia.
Method: About 1123 mothers with a gestational age of less than 16 weeks were identified and followed using an observational longitudinal study to determine whether the quality of ANC influences antepartum stillbirth or not. Standardized and pretested observation checklists and participants' interview questionnaires were employed to obtain the necessary information after getting both written and verbal consent from the concerned bodies and study participants. In this study, quality was measured by the process attributes of quality to measure the acceptable standard of quality of antenatal care. Women who received ≥75% of essential ANC services (from 1st-4th visit) were categorized under received good quality antenatal care. General estimating equation analysis was done to determine the effect of quality antenatal care on antepartum stillbirth.
Result: A total of 121 (12.3%) 95% CI (10.3%, 14.5%) mothers who were observed during delivery had encountered antepartum stillbirth. In this study, the overall quality of antenatal care service that was provided in the whole visit (1st -4th) was 1230 (31.38%). Higher quality ANC decreases the odds of antepartum stillbirth by almost 81%, after controlling other factors (0.19 (AOR 0.19 at 95% CI; 0.088 to 0.435). There is a change in the odds of developing antepartum stillbirth as the level of education of mothers increases. Moreover, mothers with a history of preexisting hypertension were more like to have antepartum stillbirth AOR = 3.1, 95%CI (1.44, 6.77)].
Conclusion and recommendation: Therefore, having a good quality of ANC significantly reduces antepartum stillbirth. Strategies need to be developed on the problems identified to improve the quality of ANC and reduce antepartum stillbirth significantly.

Abstract Background: Ureteroscopy is a major diagnostic and therapeutic technique for lesions of the ureter and intrarenal collecting system.
Methods: A retrospective chart review was done at St. Paul's Hospital Millennium Medical College, Ethiopia to determine the outcome of ureteroscopy and factors affecting it. The study period was from January 2018 to April 2018. Multivariate analysis was done to determine factors affecting stone clearance and success rate.
Result: One hundred six patients who underwent semirigid ureteroscopy were included in the study. The male-to-female ratio was 1.8:1. The mean age of the patients was 36.4 years (±12.6). Ninety-six (90.6%) patients were found to have ureteric stones, while 9(8.5%) patients had a ureteric stricture. Ureteroscopy therapeutic interventions for stones were successful in 89 (92.7%) patients. The mean procedure time and postoperative hospital stay were 44 minutes (±23.7) and 2.5 days (±2.5) respectively. Intraoperative complications (ureteric avulsion, hemorrhage, and ureteral perforations) occurred in 6(5.7%) patients. The stone clearance rate was 54.7% (52). The site of obstruction was passed in 93 patients making the success rate of the procedure 87.7%. The absence of intraoperative complications was significantly associated with success rate. Patients with intraoperative complications have low success rate (20%) compared to patients without complications (92.3%), p=0.42.
Conclusions: Semirigid ureteroscopy had a good success rate, especially for stones in the distal ureter and if there is no flexible ureteroscope, it is an acceptable alternative.

Abstract Exploratory survey have identified many constraints to maize production in the South Shaba region of Zaїre. These include maize streak disease, stalk bearing catapillars, low soil fertility, weed infestations, and irregular end-of- season rainfall. There is also a shortage of labour for land preparation and weeding, and a lack of fertilizer.Trials were conducted to remedy some of the production constraints. However, because of certain practical problems, more attention was given to the agronomic and short-term entomological and economic factors. The objectives of the trials were:1. to compare the yield of the local variety and Babungo-3 under farm conditions, 2. to estimate the economic benefit of growing Babungo-3 to the average farm family. 3. to investigate the varietal traits that are responsible for the difference in economic benefit. 4. to compare the response of the two varieties to fert1l1zer. 5. to Investigate whether the improved variety could extend planting time. and 6. to set the stage for future economic studies.

Abstract Bioethanol is one of the most important alternative renewable energy sources that substitute the fossil fuels. Sugarcane bagasse has a content of cellulose and hemicelluloses, which make it suitable as fermentation substrate when hydrolyzed. The objective of work is ethanol production from sugarcane bagasse (SCB) by the fermentation process. Eight laboratory experiments were conducted to produce bioethanol from sugarcane bagasse. By using Design Expert, it was formulated the dilute acid hydrolysis step to investigate the effects of hydrolysis parameters on a yield of ethanol and optimum condition. All the three hydrolysis parameters were significant variables for the yield of ethanol. The optimum combinations of the three factors maximum ethanol yield were 10.86 ml at 50 g sample, 92.59 °C hydrolysis temperature, 30 min hydrolysis time and 1%v/v acid concentration. From this study following point were concluded: •Lignocellulosic containing material are sustainable for clean energy production•Production of bioethanol from waste sugarcane baggage's is possible•Operating parameters (time, temperature and acid concentration) can be optimized by surface response methodology.•Process parameters hydrolysis, fermentation and distillation have significant role on bioethanol yield.

Abstract Objectives: Most maternal and newborn deaths occur during labour and delivery. Birth preparedness and complication readiness practice getting early services when problems may arise is the most achievable components of safe motherhood strategies. However, there is limited evidence found particularly in the study area. Thus, a community based cross-sectional study was conducted from May 17 to June 30, 2017, to assess birth preparedness practice and associated factors among pregnant women in Medebay Zana district in Northern Ethiopia.
Result: The finding showed that about 176 (32%) of the respondents were prepared for birth based on the criteria set in this study. Preparation for birth was higher among married women (AOR = 4.14, 95% CI (1.47-11.64)), among governmental employed women (AOR = 2.69, 95% CI (1.19-6.05)), those who attend antenatal care service (AOR, 0.11, 95% CI (0.05-0.22)), planned pregnancy (AOR = 0.06, 95% CI (0.03-0.15), those who had saving habit (AOR = 15.81, 95% CI (7.20-34.72), duration of pregnancy near to 9 month (AOR = 5.86, 95% CI (3.25-10.58). Preparation for birth was lower among illiterate mothers (AOR = 0.15, 95% CI (0.07-0.30), among mothers who attended primary education (AOR = 0.01, 95% CI (0.01-0.04)). The prevalence of birth preparedness practice in the study area was low. Community-based health education about preparation for birth is important.

Abstract Objective: In Ethiopia skilled deliveries are increasing but stillbirth is not reducing as required. However; there are limited numbers of up to date studies done related to stillbirth in the study area. Therefore this was aimed to assess the prevalence and determinants of stillbirth using facility based cross-sectional study among women attended deliveries at Aksum General Hospital in 2018. Systematic random sampling method was used to select 573 study participants from the deliveries attended during the study period. The data was entered into Epi-data version 3.1 and exported to Statistical Package for Social Science version 21 for analysis. Bivariate and multivariable logistic regression analysis were conducted to identify significant predictors and strength of association was measured based on adjusted odds ratio with 95% confidence level and statistical significance was declared at p-value less than 0.05.
Results: The prevalence of stillbirth was 3.68% in this study area. Maternal age 20-35 (AOR = 0.25; 95% CI (0.08, 0.80)), not using partograph (AOR = 8.66; 95% CI (2.88, 26.10)) and gestational age < 37 weeks (AOR = 3.86; 95% CI (1.27, 11.69)) were the independent factors affecting the stillbirth.
