    Abstract In this paper, I selected Sinonovacula constricta, a typical representative of commercial bivalve shellfish from Zhangzhou City, and found that microplastics were detected in all the samples with small sizes. The abundance in farm samples (3.65 n/g) was higher than in market samples (0.89 n/g), despite their smaller weight, which was mainly contributed by body fluid. Microplastics transported from the body fluid to the viscera and then metabolized into muscle were substantially reduced (69.3%), with only 0 or 1 microplastic observed in the muscles on the micron scale. The microplastics detected in the market samples were mainly concentrated in the viscera, accounting for 81%, while distributed in all the organs of farm samples, with body fluids accounting for 52%. A total of four shapes were detected, with the highest percentage of fibrous shape, while foam-like microplastics were not detected in the market samples. The abundance was not correlated with sample weight, but market samples showed a positive correlation. A total of seven polymers were detected, with the highest rate of polypropylene (PP) (27%). The polymer risk level reached level III. The percentage of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) in the market samples exceeded that of farms, which resulted in a higher hazard risk index despite their lower abundance. The cleaning process and excretory behavior, from farms to markets, greatly reduced microplastic contamination.

    Abstract Microplastics have been widely detected in the environment, while mangrove wetlands are considered barriers to land-based plastic transport to the ocean, requiring special attention. However, the current literature is distributed and broad besides limited information on the fate characteristics and pollution levels. This study uses a systematic literature review method to analyze the current research status and future trends. In this study, the literature is summarized and concluded that Characteristics including color, shape, size, polymer chemistry and surface microstructure are the basic information for microplastic research in mangrove wetlands. Size is the key to studying distribution and convergence without international standards. The shape is vital to study its sources and environmental processes. Color affects biological predation and is important information for studying ecological risk. The chemical composition of plastics is the key to studying microplastics’ fingerprint information, source, and sink. The surface microstructure is an important basis for studying adsorption behavior and aging processes. Mangrove microplastic studies in China are mainly on the southern and southeastern coasts, and microplastic pollution is more severe in Fujian, Guangdong, and Guangxi than in Hainan. In contrast, studies on mangrove microplastics abroad are mainly concentrated in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and South America. Overall, microplastic contamination was detected in the major distribution areas of mangroves worldwide and was correlated with mangrove density and human activities.

    Abstract Abstract It is commonly known that the dephasing in open quantum systems is due to the establishment of bipartite correlations with ambient environments, which are typically difficult to be fully characterized. Recently, a new approach of average over disordered Hamiltonian ensemble is developed and shown to be capable of describing the nonclassicality of incoherent dynamics based on inferring the nonclassical nature of the correlations. Here we further extend the approach of Hamiltonian ensemble in the canonical form to the realm of structural disorder. Under the variable separation of the probability distribution within the Hamiltonian ensemble, the geometrical structure is easily visualized and can be characterized according to the degree of symmetry. We demonstrate four degrees and investigate the effects of different types of symmetry breaking on the incoherent dynamics. We show that these effects are easily understood from the emergences of additional terms in the master equations, leading to rather general master equations and, consequently, going beyond the previous frameworks of pure dephasing or isotropic depolarization.

    Abstract Abstract Accurately estimating the concentration of carbon monoxide (CO) with high spatiotemporal resolution is crucial for assessing its meteorological-environmental-health impacts. Although machine learning models have high predictive ability in environmental research, there are relatively few explanations for model outputs. Utilizing the top-of-atmosphere radiation data of China’s new generation geostationary satellites (FY-4A and FY-4B) and interpretable machine learning models, the 24-hour near-surface CO concentrations in China was conducted (resolution: 1 hour, 0.04°). The model improved by 6.6% when using the all-sky dataset (cloud-contained model, R2 = 0.759) compared to the clear-sky dataset (cloud-removed model). The interpretability analysis of the CO estimation model used two methods, namely ante-hoc (model feature importance) and post-hoc (SHapley Additive exPlanations). The importance of daytime meteorological factors increased by 51% compared to nighttime. Combining partial dependency plots, the impact of key meteorological factors on CO was elucidated to gain a deeper understanding of the spatiotemporal variations of CO.

    Abstract Here, we use an input distance function approach to determine the shadow price of carbon dioxide (CO2), technical efficiency and potential for emission reductions of the industrial sectors of China and Korea, and impact of carbon trading on costs. Data from 20 industries in the manufacturing sectors of South Korea and China were analyzed during 2015–2019. The potential for CO2 emission reductions and cost-saving effects of emissions trading were compared between the two countries. The average technical efficiency score of 20 manufacturing industries in Korea was 0.71, indicating that production costs could be reduced by almost 30%, while for China, the potential cost savings were 4% higher. The average marginal abatement cost in Korea was estimated as US$6.46/ton, while the weighted average marginal abatement cost for CO2 emissions (p^us), was US$15.1/ton. For China, the respective values were similar, at US$3.21/ton and US$6.57/ton.

    Abstract This paper incorporates insights from organizational identity and identification, social network research and post-merger integration to explore factors influencing employees' identification with a merged nonprofit organization. We propose that nonprofit employees' identification with the merged nonprofit organization is associated with their network size, relational heterogeneity, and perceived effectiveness of integration processes. Empirical results suggest that employees with larger mentoring and socioemotional support networks exhibit strong post-merger identification. Relational heterogeneity within the workflow network has an inverted U-shape relationship with post-merger identification. Employees' perceived effectiveness of integration processes significantly influences their sense of identity with the new organization. Implications for better managing post-merger identification are discussed.

    Abstract As a key component of wildfire activities, ignition is regulated by complex interactions among climate, fuel, topography, and humans. Considerable studies have advanced our knowledge on patterns and drivers of total areas burned and fire frequency, but much is less known about wildfire ignition. To better design effective fire prevention and management strategies, it is critical to understand contemporary ignition patterns and predict the probability of wildfire ignitions from different sources. We here modeled and analyzed human- and lightning-caused ignition probability across the whole state and sub-ecoregions of California, USA. We developed maximum entropy models to estimate wildfire ignition probability and understand the complex impacts of anthropogenic and biophysical drivers, based on a historical ignition database. The models captured well the spatial patterns of human and lightning started wildfire ignitions in California. The human-caused ignitions dominated the areas closer to populated regions and along the traffic corridors. Model diagnosis showed that precipitation, slope, human settlement, and road network shaped the statewide spatial distribution of human-started ignitions. In contrast, the lightning-caused ignitions were distributed more remotely in Sierra Nevada and North Interior, with snow water equivalent, lightning strike density, and fuel amount as primary drivers. Separate region-specific model results further revealed the difference in the relative importance of the key drivers among different sub-ecoregions. Model predictions suggested spatially heterogeneous decadal changes and an overall slight decrease in ignition probability between circa 2000 and 2010. Our findings reinforced the importance of varying humans vs biophysical controls in different fire regimes, highlighting the need for locally optimized land management to reduce ignition probability.
