Abstract Introduction: Cogan's syndrome is a rare form of vasculitis mainly affecting young subjects of whatever gender, associating cochleovestibular and ophthalmological damage. Despite medical treatment, auditory prognosis is uncertain, with 50-60% of patients showing irreversible severe to profound hearing loss, thus being candidates for cochlear implantation. Following CARE guidelines, we report 10 cases of cochlear implantation in Cogan's syndrome, with assessment of speech reception threshold and maximum intelligibility after a minimum 1 year's experience with the implant.
Case series: Ten patients from 4 centers received cochlear implants (14 implants) for Cogan's syndrome between 2005 and 2020. After 1 year's experience, there was significant improvement in speech reception threshold (P=0.0002) and maximum intelligibility (P=0.0002).
Conclusion-discussion: Audiovestibular signs associated with ophthalmological manifestations should suggest Cogan's syndrome. Hearing impairment is usually irreversible. Cochlear implantation may be necessary and improves hearing performance.

Abstract Species level identification of Agromyzidae based on morphology is often challenging due to their small size and morphological homogeneity. DNA barcoding has been used regularly to assist with the identification of economically important species of Agromyzidae, but rarely as a tool for species delineation or identification in biodiversity surveys. The main objective of this study was to investigate whether DNA barcoding and the BIN (Barcoding Index) system could assist with species identification, species delineation, male/ female association, and diversity assessment of Agromyzidae material previously determined to morphospecies from Mitaraka, French Guiana. Amplification success was low, with sequences over 400 bp recovered for only 24 (48%) of the selected specimens. Sequences assigned to 17 morphospecies formed 16 distinct branches or clusters separated by very high (minimum of 10%) sequence divergence. Following the reassessment and subsequent reassignment of one specimen, congruence between morphology and DNA barcodes was high with a single instance of two morphospecies sharing identical sequences. While DNA barcoding did not assist with identification (none of our sequences matched those of named taxa in BOLD or GenBank), it did provide support for most of our morphospecies concepts, including male/female associations. The BIN system also provided access to information about the distribution and habitat preferences of several taxa. We conclude that DNA barcoding was a useful approach to study the species diversity of our samples but that much work remains to be done before it can be used as an identification tool for the Agromyzidae fauna of Mitaraka and the rest of the Neotropical region.

Abstract Objectives: This study aimed to investigate predictive factors for revision surgery in otosclerosis.
Methods: This was a retrospective, multicentre study in four tertiary centres. The primary objective was to investigate factors that were predictive of the need for revision stapes surgery.
Results: The 'revision' group included 145 patients, and the 'control' group included 143 patients. This study identified statistically significant predictive factors for the need for revision surgery: younger age, active smoking status, dyslipidaemia and high blood pressure. There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups in terms of surgical technique or stapedotomy technique.
Conclusion: This study showed that patients who are candidates for primary stapes surgery with younger age, active smoking status, dyslipidaemia and high blood pressure are at higher risk of needing revision surgery. A holistic approach prior to stapes surgery with multidisciplinary assessment is recommended. These results are important for better patient counselling on expected outcomes and risks.

Abstract We report the case of a 59-year-old, obese woman who underwent prolonged prone position during the medical management of an acute respiratory distress syndrome induced by SARS-CoV-2 infection, complicated by a masseter muscle pressure injury. Such side effect may be underestimate in intensive care units and should be prevent by prophylactic dressings on facial weight-bearing sites. The understanding of facial deep tissue injury is essential to guide clinical detection and management of such a complication in COVID-19 patients.
