Abstract Introduction: The Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme is one of the flagship programs, and under this, various activities like non-formal education on one hand and breaking the vicious cycle of malnutrition, morbidity, and mortality on the other hand are carried out by anganwadi worker (AWW). The aim of this study is to assess the AWWs performance and beneficiary participation in respect to the ICDS scheme. Methodology: This is a community-based, cross-sectional study done in two stages using a simple random sampling technique. Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) area is divided into 10 parts called ghatak, and out of these 10 ghataks, 6 were chosen in the first stage, and in the second stage, 12 anganwadi centers were selected from these 6 selected ghataks using simple random sampling. Result: In this study, 58.3% of anganwadi workers were graduates. While talking about work related to “Home Visit” and “Immunization Sessions,” there was no statistically significant difference between owned and rented anganwadi center noted. While in “Nutrition & health education”-related work, there was a statistically significant difference between owned and rented anganwadi centers observed. Accuracy of weighing, plotting, and interpretation skill was more than 90% found in both the rented and owned anganwadi center. An almost similar level of nutritional status was observed in both owned and rented centers. Conclusion: In terms of performance and participation, there was not much difference between corporation own and rented anganwadi centers, although there were shared concerns related to frequent changes of place of rented anganwadi centers affecting the participation of beneficiaries.

Abstract Ovulation in the cow occurs 10 to 12 hours after the end of behavioral estrus and 18 to 26 hours after the ovulatory LH peak. During estrus and after the endof estrus, several follicles undergo development but usually only one, it ovulates & the other follicles regress and become atretic. The consequences for fertility of an ovulatory defect are two-fold; either the oocyte is not liberated and hence cannot be fertilized, or it is liberated too late so that the spermatozoa are now incapable of fertilization, or the oocyte has aged and is not capable of normal development. Ovulatory defects occur due to endocrine deficiency or imbalance, failure of the development of hormone receptors at the target tissue or mechanical factors. If the quantity of pituitary hormone released is insufficient, or its timing is incorrect, then ovulation is delayed or fails to occur. In a minority of cases, because of extensive lesions involving adhesion of the ovarian bursa to the surface of the ovary, the physical process of ovulation is prevented.

Abstract Background: There is a wide range of effective interventions for the prevention of diabetes, but few of these approaches have been extensively utilized in real-world settings. The objective of this systematic review was to assess and collate existing evidence in implementation research (IR) on prevention, control and treatment of Diabetes Mellitus (DM) in India. Methods: The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses - Protocol (PRISMA-P) guidelines were used to create the protocol for the systematic review. Articles published in the previous 20 years (2001–2020) and published in English language were included in the study. Electronic databases such as MEDLINE (through PubMed gateway), EMBASE, and Science Direct; search engines like Google scholar and ProQuest were systematically searched using separate search protocols for each database. Retrieved articles were screened for titles and abstracts and assessed by two independent reviewers. Using standard checklists, the articles also underwent a risk of bias assessment, and a narrative summary was written using SWiM guidelines. Results: Sixteen studies were included in the review, which included three implementation studies related to screening of diabetes, three studies on the management of diabetes, three studies related to lifestyle interventions, one on behavioral intervention, two on electronic support system-based interventions, and the remaining four studies explored IR in other areas of diabetes. The key attributes of implementation research such as acceptability, feasibility, adoption, economic evaluation measures like cost-effectiveness, operational issues like barriers, and facilitating factors were addressed by most of the studies, in varying extents. Conclusion: Implementation research on diabetes mellitus in India is very limited which underscores the importance of creating awareness about the need of IR and building capacity and skills for conducting IR among various stakeholders.

Abstract Background COVID-19 is affecting the entire population of India. Understanding district level correlates of the COVID-19's infection ratio (IR) is essential for formulating policies and interventions. Objective The present study aims to investigate the district level variation in COVID-19 during March-October 2020. The present study also examines the association between India's socioeconomic and demographic characteristics and the COVID-19 infection ratio at the district level. Data and methods We used publicly available crowdsourced district-level data on COVID-19 from March 14, 2020, to October 31, 2020. We identified hotspot and cold spot districts for COVID-19 cases and infection ratio. We have also carried out two sets of regression analysis to highlight the district level demographic, socioeconomic, household infrastructure facilities, and health-related correlates of the COVID-19 infection ratio. Results The results showed on October 31, 2020, the IR in India was 42.85 per hundred thousand population, with the highest in Kerala (259.63) and the lowest in Bihar (6.58). About 80 percent infected cases and 61 percent deaths were observed in nine states (Delhi, Gujarat, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana). Moran's- I showed a positive yet poor spatial clustering in the COVID-19 IR over neighboring districts. Our regression analysis demonstrated that percent of 15-59 aged population, district population density, percent of the urban population, district-level testing ratio, and percent of stunted children were significantly and positively associated with the COVID-19 infection ratio. We also found that, with an increasing percentage of literacy, there is a lower infection ratio in Indian districts. Conclusion The COVID-19 infection ratio was found to be more rampant in districts with a higher working-age population, higher population density, a higher urban population, a higher testing ratio, and a higher level of stunted children. The study findings ...

Abstract The use of PGF2 α is based on its luteolytic effect causing regression of corpus luteum and allows development of dominant follicle on the ovary that result in estrus and ovulation in 72 to 96 hours after its administration. Moreover, the PGF2 α also causes relaxation of cervix and smooth muscle contractions of uterus. The use of PGF2 α may provide microbial resistance in uterine environment, on one hand and can favour and enhance body defense mechanism / phagocytic activity on the other hand. PGF2 α is widely used to get rid of from the conditions like luteal cystic ovarian disease, persistent corpus luteum, endometritis, abnormal pregnancy, pyometra, retention of placenta and mummification. It has been now in vogue to administer PGF2 α or its analogue in early postpartum cows and buffaloes in order to hasten early resumption of cyclic ovarian activity and thereby to increase the reproductive efficiency.

Abstract Several enveloped viruses, including herpesviruses attach to host cells by initially interacting with cell surface heparan sulfate (HS) proteoglycans followed by specific coreceptor engagement which culminates in virus-host membrane fusion and virus entry. Interfering with HS-herpesvirus interactions has long been known to result in significant reduction in virus infectivity indicating that HS play important roles in initiating virus entry. In this study, we provide a series of evidence to prove that specific sulfations as well as the degree of polymerization (dp) of HS govern human cytomegalovirus (CMV) binding and infection. First, purified CMV extracellular virions preferentially bind to sulfated longer chain HS on a glycoarray compared to a variety of unsulfated glycosaminoglycans including unsulfated shorter chain HS. Second, the fraction of glycosaminoglycans (GAG) displaying higher dp and sulfation has a larger impact on CMV titers compared to other fractions. Third, cell lines deficient in specific glucosaminyl sulfotransferases produce significantly reduced CMV titers compared to wild-type cells and virus entry is compromised in these mutant cells. Finally, purified glycoprotein B shows strong binding to heparin, and desulfated heparin analogs compete poorly with heparin for gB binding. Taken together, these results highlight the significance of HS chain length and sulfation patterns in CMV attachment and infectivity.

Abstract Background: Compound tincture benzoin (CTB) is used as a post-procedure skin seal antiseptic agent since ancient times; but this drug is reported to cause allergic contact dermatitis and other unwanted side effects. Our aim of the present study was to compare alternative agent like Medicated Adhesive dressing (MAD) with CTB as a post-procedure skin seal dressing. Design: This prospective randomized controlled experimental study included an equal number of patients in MAD and CTB as a post-operative seal dressing material for percutaneous interventions. Both the groups were graded for various efficacy parameters like comfort, applicability, dressing material, and immediate post-operative complications by operating doctor and attending nurse with a maximum 10 points in each group. Results: 120 patients were studied in each MAD and CTB group. Out of total patients 31.25% were males and the mean age of the patient was 33.56 ± 11.10. Allergic contact dermatitis developed in 9 (7.49%) of CTB group and in 1 (0.83%) of MAD group (P < 0.002), while local site skin infections were noted in 8 (6.67%) of CTB group and in 1 (0.83%) of MAD (P < 0.002). Operating doctor graded MAD and CTB to 7.60 ± 0.49 and 3.62 ± 0.48 (P < 0.003); and attending nurse 7.40 ± 0.49 and 3.41 ± 0.49 (P < 0.003) respectively. Conclusion: MAD is a safe, efficient and non-inferior alternative dressing material for post-procedure skin incision seal in comparison to CTB.

Abstract The study was conducted on eighteen delayed pubertal Surti buffalo heifers, divided into three equal groups (6 in each) to evaluate the efficacy of GnRH alone and in combination of phosphorus. The buffalo heifers in Group-I and Group-II were treated with Buserelin acetate (5 ml, IM). Buffalo heifers in Group-II also received additional injection of Toldimphos sodium (10 ml, IM) at 3 day interval for 4 times, while buffalo heifers in Group-III served as control. The percentage of induced estrus was highest (83.33%) in each treated groups as compared to control group (50%). The mean estrus induction intervals were significantly (P<0.05) shorter in Group-I (20.20 ± 2.18 days) and Group-II (18.80 ± 2.32 days) as compared to control group (30.24 ± 0.81 days). The conception rate at induced estrus was highest in Group-II (50%) followed by Group-I (33.33%). The plasma progesterone levels being significantly lowest on the day of estrus (less than 0.5 ng/ml) as compared to pre-treatment days in all groups. The mean total protein and triglycerides levels were differed significantly between the groups on the day of estrus and being significantly higher in Group-II as compared to Group-I and III on that day. A significantly higher level of cholesterol in both treatment groups as compared to the control group during different intervals and also being higher on the day of estrus as compared to pre-treatment days. The mean plasma glucose levels were differed nonsignificantly between and within the treatment and control groups. It is concluded that estrus can be successfully induced in delayed pubertal heifers with the use of GnRH alone and in combination with phosphorus.
