Abstract Previous studies have indicated that the development of preeclampsia (PE) involves the regulation of circular RNA (circRNA). However, the role of hsa_circ_0014736 (circ_0014736) in PE remains unknown. Thus, the study proposes to reveal the function of circ_0014736 in the pathogenesis of PE and the underlying mechanism. The results showed that circ_0014736 and GPR4 expression were significantly upregulated, while miR-942-5p expression was downregulated in PE placenta tissues when compared with normal placenta tissues. circ_0014736 knockdown promoted the proliferation, migration, and invasion of placenta trophoblast cells (HTR-8/SVneo) and inhibited apoptosis; however, circ_0014736 overexpression had the opposite effects. circ_0014736 functioned as a sponge for miR-942-5p and regulated HTR-8/SVneo cell processes by interacting with miR-942-5p. Additionally, GPR4, a target gene of miR-942-5p, was involved in miR-942-5p-mediated actions in HTR-8/SVneo cells. Moreover, circ_0014736 stimulated GPR4 production through miR-942-5p. Collectively, circ_0014736 inhibited HTR-8/SVneo cell proliferation, migration, and invasion and induced cell apoptosis through the miR-942-5p/GPR4 axis, providing a possible target for the treatment of PE.

Abstract Introduction: The current study evaluated a large cohort of T2N0M0 NSCLC patients with different T2 descriptors to investigate the prognostic disparities and further externally validate the T category of these patients.
Methods: The Kaplan-Meier Method with the log-rank test was used to plot survival curves. The propensity score matching (PSM) method was used to reduce bias. Univariable and multivariable Cox analyses were used to determine prognostic factors.
Results: A total of 13,015 eligible T2N0M0 NSCLC patients were included. There were 5,287, 2,577 and 5,151 patients in the T2a, T2b and non-sized determined T2N0M0 (T2non-sized) groups, respectively. Before PSM, the survival of T2non-sized patients was comparable to that of T2a patients (P = 0.080) but was superior to that of T2b patients (P < 0.001). After PSM, the survival of T2non-sized patients was inferior to that of T2a patients (P = 0.028) but was similar to that of T2b patients (P = 0.325). The T category was further subdivided based on the specific non-sized T2 descriptors and tumor size. The results of the multivariate Cox analysis found that the prognosis of T2 tumors with visceral pleural invasion (size: 0-30 mm) was better than that of T2a tumors, and the prognosis of T2 tumors with visceral pleural invasion (size: 30-40 mm) was inferior to that of T2a tumors but comparable to that of T2b tumors.
Conclusion: T2 tumors with visceral pleural invasion (size: 30-40 mm) should be assigned to the T2b category, and those with a size interval of 0-30 mm should be assigned to a better prognostic T2a category.

Abstract The inhibiting effects of ciprofloxacin (CIP) on enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR) were investigated with no change in reactor operation and with increased aeration rate and sludge retention time (SRT) to explore inhibition-alleviating solutions. Additionally, performance recoverability was evaluated. The results showed that the phosphorus removal efficiency in the presence of 0.002-0.092 mg/L CIP for 7 days was only 12.5%. Increasing the aeration rate relieved inhibition (33.5% phosphorus removal efficiency on Day 7), and increasing SRT slowed EBPR performance deterioration. The EBPR performance recovered from CIP inhibition and increases in the aeration rate and SRT resulted in different recovery phenomena. The maximum PO

Abstract Recently, the following global-best strategy and discussion mechanism have been prevailing to solve the slow convergence and the low optimization accuracy in the brain storm optimization (BSO) algorithm. However, the traditional BSO algorithm also suffers from the problem that it is easy to fall into local optimum. Therefore, this work innovatively designed the chaotic difference step strategy. This strategy introduced four commonly used chaotic maps and difference step to expand the population search space to improve the situation. Moreover, opposition-based learning thought was innovatively adopted into the BSO algorithm. The thought aims to generate the opposition-based population, increase the search density, and make the algorithm out of the local optimum as soon as possible. In summary, this work proposed a global-best brain storm optimization algorithm based on the chaotic difference step and opposition-based learning (COGBSO). According to the CEC2013 benchmark test suit, 15 typical benchmark functions were selected, and multiple sets of simulation experiments were conducted on MATLAB. The COGBSO algorithm was also compared to recent competitive algorithms based on the complete CEC2018 benchmark test suit. The results demonstrate that the COGBSO outperforms BSO and other improved algorithms in solving complex optimization problems.

Abstract The ventral tegmental area (VTA) is well known for regulating reward consumption, learning, memory, and addiction behaviors through mediating dopamine (DA) release in downstream regions. Other than DA neurons, the VTA is known to be heterogeneous and contains other types of neurons, including glutamate neurons. In contrast to the well-studied and established functions of DA neurons, the role of VTA glutamate neurons is understudied, presumably due to their relatively small quantity and a lack of effective means to study them. Yet, emerging studies have begun to reveal the importance of glutamate release from VTA neurons in regulating diverse behavioral repertoire through a complex intra-VTA and long-range neuronal network. In this review, we summarize the features of VTA glutamate neurons from three perspectives, namely, cellular properties, neural connections, and behavioral functions. Delineation of VTA glutamatergic pathways and their interactions with VTA DA neurons in regulating behaviors may reveal previously unappreciated functions of the VTA in other physiological processes.

Abstract We aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of visceral pleural invasion on the survival of node-negative non-small cell lung cancer ≤3 cm using a large cohort. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to compare overall survival (OS); competing risk analysis with Fine-Gray's test was used to compare cancer- specific survival between groups. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator penalized Cox regression model was used to identify prognostic factors. In total, 9725 eligible cases were included in this study, and they were separated into 3 groups: tumor invasion beneath the elastic layer (PL0), 8837 cases; tumor invasion surpassing the elastic layer (PL1), 505 cases; and tumor invasion to the visceral pleural surface (PL2), 383 cases. Visceral pleural invasion was more likely to occur in poorly differentiated and larger-sized tumors. Survival curves displayed that PL0 conferred better survival rates than PL1 and PL2, and PL1 achieved outcomes equivalent to those of PL2. Tumor size and histology subset analyses further corroborated this conclusion. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator -penalized Cox regression analysis confirmed that PL status was an independent prognostic factor for both OS and cancer- specific survival. This study supported the notion that in node-negative non-small cell lung cancer ≤3 cm, PL1 patients should remain classified as pT2a, which could improve staging accuracy.
