    Abstract This paper aims at studying the theoretical path of Federal Institutions of Vocational Education from its beginning as Schools of Craft Apprentices established in the early XXth century, more precisely in 1909, during President Nilo Peçanha's term to its present configuration as Federal Institutions of Education, Science and Technology (IFETs), as of 2009. The purpose of the study is to rescue the history of these institutions with more than a century of existence, relating it to the socioeconomic determinants which deeply influenced their history over this period.

    Abstract The most-used method for essential oil extraction is steam distillation due to its simplicity and low investment requirements. Due to the importance of this extractive method, technological updates represent an immense opportunity for improving this component of essential oil production. In order to evaluate how such updates have been applied to essential oil production, in this study, we conducted a technological prospection. A total of 490 patent documents were retrieved and indicators were evaluated, which included publication trends, main applicants and inventors of the prospected technologies, main depositing countries and potential markets for the inventions, and classification codes assigned to the patent documents. The results indicated that steam distillation is used by different sectors and that it is an important industrial process that has been growing in recent years. In terms of associated technological updates, we observed that only some patent documents referred to the application of technological updates, indicating that processes could still be investigated and incorporated into the technology. Thus, the advancement of studies to improve this process could contribute even more to its visible growth, increasing its application potential and process yield.

    Abstract O presente artigo problematiza o lugar das relações étnicas na Educação, a partir da articulação de juventudes, identidades e temas afro-brasileiros. Ancorada no método etnográfico e na Hermêutica de Profundidade, a pesquisa partiu das vivências de estudantes e egressos do Colégio Estadual José Araújo Pereira. A produção do conhecimento afro-brasileiro se apresenta alicerçada nos saberes de legados africanos e na difusão de temas, em constraste com os antagonismos enfrentados pelos sujeitos mobilizadores desses saberes. Ao problematizar etnicidade, relações étnicas e identidade étnica, a pesquisa discute os desafios dos estudos étnicos na Educação e aponta a necessidade de ações planejadas para a geração de registros, publicidades e continuidades de trabalhos que fortalecem o protagonismo juvenil na produção do conhecimento afro-brasileiro.     Abstract A microbiota intestinal é composta por uma diversidade de microrganismos e constitui uma importante barreira imunológica, metaboliza nutrientes não digeridos, produzem mediadores químicos e metabólitos que são determinantes para a gliconeogênese, além de apresentar diversas funções. A presença e quantidade de firmicutes e bacterioidetes no intestino influencia a produção de mediadores químicos relacionados a obesidade, sendo possível observar também que a microbiota intestinal de indivíduos obesos difere de indivíduos não obesos. A influência da microbiota intestinal sobre a fisiologia humana tem sido amplamente estudada e aplicada para o tratamento de diversas patologias. A cerca disso, o transplante da microbiota fecal busca restabelecer a disbiose através do repovoamento da microbiota intestinal afim de obter efeitos benéficos ao organismo. O objetivo deste trabalho foi realizar uma revisão bibliográfica sobre transplante fecal e verificar sua possível aplicação no controle da obesidade

    Abstract Muito se fala sobre o meio ambiente nos meios de comunicação e nas escolas, mas pouco se sabe sobre toda sua gama e envergadura. Confundem-se princípios ecológicos com o ensino generalizado do meio ambiente que cobre uma gama muito maior de conceitos e uma complexidade de relações urgentes e esquece-se que o estudo do meio ambiente deve tratar do todo envolvido pelo homem, do todo ao redor. Visões utópicas e distópicas a respeito desse tema estão presentes em alguns filmes de ficção científica feitos para cinema e televisão. Este texto analisa relações entre esses filmes e conceitos científicos relativos ao meio ambiente e aponta possibilidades de uso dos mesmos no ensino de ciência. The environment is one of the most important scientific subjects in the XXI century. Schools and the media talk about it all the time but they do not have enough knowledge. They forget that environmental studies must embrace the human beings and the whole world around them. Utopian and non-utopian conceptions about this subject are often presented in science fictions movies made for the cinema or for the television. This text discusses the relation between science fiction movies and scientific environmental concepts. In addition, it suggests a way to use the science in these kinds of films at school to develop science teaching.

    Abstract This paper seeks to contextualize some landmarks of Vocational Education in Brazil in the 1990s, during the Reform of Vocational Education promoted by the Fernando Henrique Cardoso government. We focus the discussion on Decree 2208/97 which dissociated high school programs from vocational studies, resulting in the loss of equivalent programs inaugurated by the Capanema Reform in the 1940s. This decree restored the old structural duality by establishing different and nonequivalent paths at this level of education.

    Abstract In this paper aims at contextualizing important landmarks of Vocational Education in Brazil in the 2000s during the Reform of Vocational Education promoted by Lula's government. We discuss the National Qualification Program, PNQ (2005) Decree 5154/04 (2004), which revoked Decree 2208/97 by reestablishing the integration of Basic and Vocational education with PROEJA (2006).

    Abstract Cytomegalovirus (CMV) mutations associated with antiviral resistance have become a major problem related to high mortality in kidney transplant patients. The aim of the study was to investigate mutations in the CMV genes UL97 and UL54 associated with antiviral resistance. A retrospective observational cohort study was carried out at Hospital Ophir Loyola (HOL), a reference in Kidney Transplantation. A total of 81 patients who underwent kidney transplantation were followed up between 2016 and 2018 were monitored for CMV viral load by performing qPCR. Sanger sequencing was performed on 66 patients. All CMV-positive kidney transplant recipients were included. Mutations were observed in 15 samples (22.72%) from patients. Most cases involved UL97 mutations. Mutation in UL54 without mutation in UL97 was detected in only 2 cases. Resistance mutations in UL97 were identified, such as M460V, L595S, H520Q, two co-mutations D465R + Del524 and A594P + D413A and a 3 codon deletion (del598-601). The search for mutations in the CMV genes identified mutations that confer resistance to conventional antivirals, such as ganciclovir and cidofovir, used in the treatment of these patients. Confirmation of the association with increased CMV viral load in transplanted patients, due to mutation in resistance genes, requires phenotypic analysis for confirmation purposes. These were the first findings in patients in northern Brazil that we know of.
