Abstract Root-knot nematodes of the genus Meloidogyne represent one of the most damaging and agricultural important group of plant-parasitic nematodes. These nematodes are obligate sedentary endoparasites infecting most species of higher plants and have a cosmopolitan distribution. Annual worldwide economic losses due to nematode infection of crops have been estimated at several hundred billion US dollars. This book is the first complete illustrated compendium of root-knot nematode species and contains 98 species descriptions with comprehensive diagnoses, information on biology, plant-hosts, pathogenicity, symptoms, distribution and biochemical and molecular diagnostics. It also includes introductions into morphology, biology, biogeography, genomics, phylogeny and host-parasite relationships of root-knot nematodes.

Abstract Objective: This article focuses on novel neuronal mechanisms of sleep and wakefulness and relates basic science developments with potential translational implications in circadian neurobiology, pharmacology, behavioral factors, and the recently integrated potential pathways of sleep-related motor inhibition.
Latest developments: During the past decade, remarkable advances in the molecular biology of sleep and wakefulness have taken place, opening a promising path for the understanding of clinical sleep disorders. Newly gained insights include the role of astrocytes in sleep brain homeostasis through the glymphatic system, the promotion of memory consolidation during states of reduced cholinergic activity during slow wave sleep, and the differential functions of melatonin receptors involving regulation of both circadian rhythm and sleep initiation. Ongoing investigations exploring sleep and circadian rhythm disruptions are beginning to unlock pathophysiologic aspects of neurologic, psychiatric, and medical disorders.
Essential points: An understanding of sleep and circadian neurobiology provides coherent and biologically credible approaches to treatments, including the identification of potential targets for neuromodulation.

Abstract During a recent inventory survey of the nematofauna of tea plantation at Zhejiang Province, China, Discocriconemella parasinensis n. sp. was detected in the rhizosphere of Camellia sinensis. The new species can be characterized by having the uninterrupted rounded labial disc, en face view showing rectangular-rounded labial plate without submedian lobes, R = 82.6 (80–86), Rex = 22 (21–23), stylet length of 68.3 (59–76) μm, excretory pore located 1–2 annuli posterior to the esophageal bulb, vulva open, postvulval body elongated conoid, and tail conoid with bilobed terminus. Morphologically, the species shares the same lip-type with D. discolabia, D. mauritiensis, D. mineira, D. perseae, and D. sinensis. Phylogenetic relationships of the new species based on D2–D3 expansion segments of 28S, ITS, and 18S rRNA genes revealed that D. parasinensis n. sp. formed a separated clade from other criconematid species, thereby supporting its status as a new species of the genus. The new species showed close phylogenetic relationships with Criconemoides geraerti.
