    Abstract El objetivo del presente artículo es analizar el fragmento atribuido al filósofo y médico Alcmeón de Crotona (DK 24 B4) y ponerlo en relación con ciertas ideas sobre la salud humana reflejadas en el escrito Aires, aguas y lugares de la segunda mitad del V a.C. Nos centraremos en aislar qué ideas concretas del fragmento encontramos en el citado escrito y cuál ha sido la evolución de las mismas. Mostraremos especial atención al intercambio de ideas y conceptos entre la política y la medicina.

    Abstract Trisomy of human chromosome 21 (HSA21) causes Down syndrome (DS). The trisomy does not simply result in the upregulation of HSA21--encoded genes but also leads to a genome-wide transcriptomic deregulation, which affect differently each tissue and cell type as a result of epigenetic mechanisms and protein-protein interactions. We performed a meta-analysis integrating the differential expression (DE) analyses of all publicly available transcriptomic datasets, both in human and mouse, comparing trisomic and euploid transcriptomes from different sources. We integrated all these data in a "DS network". We found that genome wide deregulation as a consequence of trisomy 21 is not arbitrary, but involves deregulation of specific molecular cascades in which both HSA21 genes and HSA21 interactors are more consistently deregulated compared to other genes. In fact, gene deregulation happens in "clusters", so that groups from 2 to 13 genes are found consistently deregulated. Most of these events of "co-deregulation" involve genes belonging to the same GO category, and genes associated with the same disease class. The most consistent changes are enriched in interferon related categories and neutrophil activation, reinforcing the concept that DS is an inflammatory disease. Our results also suggest that the impact of the trisomy might diverge in each tissue due to the different gene set deregulation, even though the triplicated genes are the same. Our original method to integrate transcriptomic data confirmed not only the importance of known genes, such as SOD1, but also detected new ones that could be extremely useful for generating or confirming hypotheses and supporting new putative therapeutic candidates. We created "metaDEA" an R package that uses our method to integrate every kind of transcriptomic data and therefore could be used with other complex disorders, such as cancer.     Abstract During the expedition and campaing across Asia, Alexander and his army had been involved in a lot of circunstances that deserved the attention of some professionals of the medicine. The relationship between Alexander’s army and the Physicians is complex, and it is also a question to observe if there were in the army something like a medical unit. Nevertheless, the links between the Argeads and the practice of healing and medical arts and the professionals of medicine seems to have been usual in the Macedonian court. So, Alexander’s episodes concerning his illness, and especially his habilities to heal or to help someone to be healed can be considered as a clue of the king’s connections with Asclepius, and even more, of Alexander’s use of this links to portrait himself as a healer, and in some way even as an incarnation of Asclepios, in his own way to divinization.

It starts from an overall political context and analyzes the Political Precepts (Mor. 798A-825F), dated to the early second century A.C.     Abstract Six figurines and seven miniature tupus from ritual sacrifices and offerings, made from silver alloys and gold alloys exist in the collection of the Museo Inka in Cusco (Peru). They are dated to the Inca period and were found in the archaeological site of Chimur, in Chayllabamba, district of Paucartambo. In this article, we present a study of them by optical microscopy and mobile X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (pXRF). This group of objects includes the only known two-coloured anthropomorphic figurine (made from silver and from copper) with provenience. It also includes an undamaged offering consisting of a wood box containing a silver female figurine wrapped in a cloth fastened with two silver tupus. The research results obtained on the figurines’ typology and on the diversity of the technologies and alloys employed for their production are discussed, as well as the homogeneity of the tupus production.

    Abstract The synthesis of new terpyridine (Tpy) derivatives has been subject of extensive research due to its potential as functional materials for solar energy conversion, among other applications. In this contribution, the 4-([2,2':6',2''-terpyridin]-4'-yl)phenol (TpyOH) has been synthesized, characterized and studied through several methods, including X-ray crystallography and computational approaches. Single crystal X-ray structure analysis shows that TpyOH is essentially planar, with dihedral angles of about 5.03° between the central pyridinyl and the phenolic ring, and also 6.05 and 12.2° in the terpyridine moiety. In the crystal, molecules are linked by intermolecular hydrogen bonds and through π-π stacking interactions. Using a time-dependent density functional theory approach and taking into account bulk solvent effects, the absorption and fluorescence spectra of TpyOH were investigated and compared. The TD-DFT S0→Sn and S1→S0 transition energies are in good agreement with experimental results. The frontier molecular orbitals analysis showed that the low-energy absorption band has an intraligand charge transfer character (ICT), while the high-energy band is a common feature of π-π* transitions of the Tpy moiety. The S1→S0 emission transition also has an ICT character, with a 90% contribution from the HOMO→LUMO transitions.

    Abstract En este trabajo se describen tanto la síntesis como la caracterización de E,E-1,4-dimetoxi- 2,5-bis[2-(4-nitrofenil)etenil] benceno, mediante la reacción de acoplamiento cruzado de Heck usando trifenilfosfito como ligante, lo cual –y teniendo en cuenta la literatura científica consultada– es el primer reporte de un doble acoplamiento de Heck empleando fosfitos como ligante en la formación del complejo catalítico con paladio. La caracterización del sistema fenilvinilideno obtenido muestra que el mecanismo es altamente estereoselectivo hacia la formación de enlaces trans, y su altísimo rendimiento (98%) indica que el sistema catalítico es bastante promisorio para realizar multiacoplamientos cruzados necesarios para obtener polímeros fenilvinilideno con altos pesos moleculares y altas eficiencias en las propiedades optoelectrónicas, necesarios para la tecnología de la electrónica de polímeros.
