Abstract Depressive disorders encompass a spectrum of diagnoses and are more common in women and transgender individuals. Diagnosis involves thorough history-taking and exclusion of underlying medical disorders. The emergency physician should assess the risk of self-harm and consider environmental and social factors prior to disposition.

Abstract In this article, I explore how Marind communities in West Papua experience and interpret hunger. Drawing from Indigenous discourse and practice, I examine how agro-industrial expansion and commodified foodways provoke multiple, conflicting hungers among Marind - for sago, "plastic" foods, money, and human flesh. In tandem, Marind themselves are subjected to the insatiable appetite of various invasive entities - corporations, the government, roads, cities, and oil palm. I argue that hunger constitutes a symbolically charged, culturally constructed, and morally laden experiential mode through which Marind characterize and contest capitalist modernity and its more-than-human dynamics of eating and being eaten.

Abstract Myoclonus is a known side effect of propofol and can interfere with surgery and possibly precipitate patient injury. Here, we report a 23-year-old patient undergoing an L5 osteoblastoma resection with a predominantly propofol-based anaesthetic who developed intra-operative myoclonus. Other adjuncts included ketamine, lidocaine and fentanyl infusions. The myoclonus did not improve after deepening the anaesthetic with propofol, opioid boluses or discontinuation of the lidocaine infusion. The myoclonus ceased after reducing the propofol infusion and increasing the ketamine and opioid infusions. The remainder of the intra-operative course was uneventful. This report details our intra-operative management of propofol-induced cortical reflex myoclonus and discusses our institution's experience with treating this phenomenon.

Abstract Health care professionals and patients impacted by incarceration face unique medical, legal, and ethical issues. The frequency and nature of ethics consultations for these patients are underexplored. This study aimed to characterize the primary ethical issue and contextual features of ethics consultations involving patients impacted by incarceration. We conducted a qualitative concept content analysis of ethics consultations involving patients impacted by incarceration and calculated descriptive statistics of demographics to compare these patients with the broader population of patients impacted by incarceration at a single institution from January 1, 2015, through June 30, 2022. We identified 37,184 patients impacted by incarceration (people currently or formerly incarcerated or whose surrogate decision-maker is incarcerated) at our institution. Most were White (70%) and non-Hispanic (88%); 51% were male, 49% female. Individuals impacted by incarceration comprised 3% (

Abstract Asymmetric division is a fundamental process for generating cell diversity and maintaining the stem cell population. During asymmetric division, proteins, organelles, and even RNA are distributed unequally between the two daughter cells, determining their distinct cell fates. The mechanisms orchestrating this process are extremely complex. Dysregulation of asymmetric division can potentially trigger cancer progression. Cancer stem cells, in particular, undergo asymmetric division, leading to intra-tumoral heterogeneity, which contributes to treatment refractoriness. In this review, we delve into the cellular and molecular mechanisms that govern asymmetric division and explore its relevance to tumorigenesis.

Abstract As a single-center retrospective study, we analyzed the results of rotavirus and human adenovirus antigens in stool samples with colloidal gold immunochromatography method in children with acute gastroenteritis under the age of five who were treated in our hospital from 2019 to 2022. After excluding nonconforming cases and duplicate cases, 2 896 cases were included, of which 559 cases were detected with at least one viral antigen. According to the test results, they were divided into RV positive group, HAdV positive group and RV & HAdV double positive group. The gender, age, seasonal distribution, clinical symptoms and related laboratory tests were compared and analyzed with
