Abstract Four-wave mixing techniques, such as coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy (CARS), laser-induced grating spectroscopy (LIGS), and degenerate four-wave mixing (DFWM), have been widely used in combustion diagnostics due to their advantages of high signal-to-noise ratio (S/N), coherent signal, and spatial resolution. In this work, a nano-second pulsed laser is utilized to generate mid-infrared (near 3 µm) pump beams, exciting the rovibrational transitions of nascent water in flames. Combined LIGS and DFWM measurements are demonstrated in premixed laminar CH

Abstract Nieh-Yan anomaly describes the non-conservation of chiral charges induced by the coupling between Dirac fermions and torsion fields. Since the torsion field is beyond general relativity, this effect remains hypothetical and its relevance to our universe is unclear in the context of high-energy physics. In this work, we propose that the phonons can induce a torsion field for the Kramers-Weyl fermions through electron-phonon interaction in a non-magnetic chiral crystal, thus leading to the occurrence of the Nieh-Yan anomaly in this condensed matter system. As a consequence, the Nieh-Yan term can strongly influence the phonon dynamics and lead to the helicity of acoustic phonons, namely, two transverse phonon modes mix with each other to form a circular polarization with a non-zero angular momentum at a finite phonon momentum and the phonon angular momentum reverses its sign for opposite momenta due to time reversal symmetry. The phonon helicity can be probed through measuring the total phonon angular momentum driven by a temperature gradient.

Abstract A lattice symmetry, if being nonsymmorphic, is defined by combining a point group symmetry with a fractional lattice translation that cannot be removed by changing the lattice origin. Nonsymmorphic symmetry has a substantial influence on both the connectivity and topological properties of electronic band structures in solid-state quantum materials. In this article, we review how nonsymmorphic crystalline symmetries can drive and further protect the emergence of exotic fermionic quasiparticles, including Dirac, M\"obius and hourglass fermions, that manifest as the defining energy band signatures for a plethora of gapless or gapped topological phases of matter. We first provide a classification of energy band crossings in crystalline solids, with an emphasis on symmetry-enforced band crossings that feature a nonsymmorphic-symmetry origin. In particular, we will discuss four distinct classes of nonsymmorphic-symmetry-protected topological states as well as their signature fermionic modes: (1) a $Z_2$ topological nonsymmorphic crystalline insulator with two-dimensional surface Dirac fermions; (2) a Dirac semimetal with three dimensional bulk-state Dirac nodes pinned at certain high symmetry momenta; (3) a topological M\"obius insulator with massless surface modes that resemble the topological structure of a M\"obius twist (dubbed as M\"obius fermions); (4) a time-reversal-invariant version of M\"obius insulators with hourglass-shaped massless surface states (dubbed as hourglass fermions). The emergence of the above exotic topological matter perfectly demonstrates the crucial roles of both symmetry and topology in understanding the colorful world of quantum materials.

Abstract Bilayer transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) belong to a class of materials with two unique features, the coupled spin-valley-layer degrees of freedom and the crystal structure that is globally centrosymmetric but locally noncentrosymmetric. In this Letter, we will show that the combination of these two features can lead to a rich phase diagram for unconventional superconductivity, including intralayer and interlayer singlet pairings and interlayer triplet pairings, in bilayer superconducting TMDs. In particular, we predict that the inhomogeneous Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov state can exist in bilayer TMDs under an in-plane magnetic field. We also discuss the experimental relevance of our results and possible experimental signatures.

Abstract Hypothesis: Multi-component droplet evaporation has received significant attention in recent years due to the broad range of applications such as material science, environmental monitoring, and pharmaceuticals. The selective evaporation induced by the different physicochemical properties of components is expected to influence the concentration distributions and the separation of mixtures, thereby leading to rich interfacial phenomena and phase interactions.
Experiments: A ternary mixture system containing hexadecane, ethanol, and diethyl ether is investigated in this study. The diethyl ether exhibits both surfactant-like and co-solvent properties. Systematic experiments were performed using acoustic levitation technique to achieve a contact-less evaporation condition. The evaporation dynamics and temperature information are acquired in the experiments, using high-speed photography and infrared thermography technologies.
Findings: Three distinct stages, namely, 'Ouzo state', 'Janus state', and 'Encapsulating state', are identified for the evaporating ternary droplet in acoustic levitation. A self-sustaining periodic freezing & melting evaporation mode is reported. A theoretical model is developed to characterize the multi-stage evaporating behaviors. We demonstrate the capability to tune the evaporating behaviors by varying the initial droplet composition. This work provides a deeper understanding of the interfacial dynamics and phase transitions involved in multi-component droplets and proposes novel strategies for the design and control of droplet-based systems.

Abstract Polarimetric Synthetic Aperture Radar (PolSAR) data is inherently characterized by speckle noise, which significantly deteriorates certain aspects of the quality of the PolSAR data processing, including the polarimetric decomposition and target interpretation. With the rapid increase in PolSAR resolution, SAR images in complex natural and artificial scenes exhibit non-homogeneous characteristics, which creates an urgent demand for high-resolution PolSAR filters. To address these issues, a new adaptive PolSAR filter based on joint similarity measure criterion (JSMC) is proposed in this paper. Firstly, a scale-adaptive filtering window is established in order to preserve the texture structure based on a multi-directional ratio edge detector. Secondly, the JSMC is proposed in order to accurately select homogeneous pixels; it describes pixel similarity based on both space distance and polarimetric distance. Thirdly, the homogeneous pixels are filtered based on statistical averaging. Finally, the airborne and spaceborne real data experiment results validate the effectiveness of our proposed method. Compared with other filters, the filter proposed in this paper provides a better outcome for PolSAR data in speckle suppression, edge texture, and the preservation of polarimetric properties.

Abstract According to previous studies, China’s green credit policy, which was launched in 2012, increases environment-friendly manufacturing enterprises’ loan amounts. In this paper, we focus on a redistribution mechanism among environment-friendly manufacturing firms, namely, we determine whether the effects of the green credit policy differ between small and medium-sized environment-friendly manufacturing enterprises (SMEMEs) and large environment-friendly manufacturing enterprises (LEMEs). Using a difference in difference model (DID) and a difference in difference in difference model (DDD), we find that SMEMEs obtain more loans than LEMEs due to the green credit policy. We further analyze three potential foundations of this redistribution mechanism: information asymmetry, financial development, and government environmental investment. The results demonstrate that the redistribution effect occurs in both low and high information asymmetry conditions but only in regions with satisfactory financial development and with lower government environmental investment. Our findings enrich the literature on green credit, sustainable finance, and small finance, and they provide references for enterprises, banks, and governments.
