Series title China and Globalization 2.0,
Abstract This book elaborates on the transformation of agricultural development in China into the construction of a “resource and ecologically sound society”, and the coordinated development of industrialization, urbanization, and agricultural modernization in China. It focuses on the multiple goals of transforming the Chinese agricultural development model, inner motivations, approaches, and supporting systems under environmental and resource constraints. The author endeavors to build a theoretical framework for transforming agricultural development model in the construction of a “resource and ecologically sound society". To achieve this, the author addresses successively across seven chapters issues such as the multiple goals of China’s agricultural development transformation under resource and environmental constraints, the transformation of the utilization mode of resources, “resource and ecologically sound agriculture”–oriented agricultural production system transformation, the transformation of commercialized rural service system, and institutional innovations in the “resource and ecologically sound” agricultural transformation. Wensheng Chen is a Research Professor at the Hunan Academy of Social Sciences, China. He is the Dean of Hunan Rural Development Institute, Principal Scholar of the Program of New Socialist Countryside Construction Research in Hunan Province, China, and Guest Professor of East China University of Science and Technology.

Abstract Lactobacillus is the dominant genus during fruit and vegetable juices (FVFs) fermentation, which are the key factors for taste and flavor. This study was performed to investigate the effects of different Lactobacillus spp. on profile of volatile flavor compounds and nonvolatile taste compounds in FVFs fermentation. A total of 14 compounds were identified as discriminant flavor and taste markers for fermented FVFs via gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC‐MS)‐based multimarker profiling. The PCA score plot and PLS‐DA showed that different FVFs were divided into three distinct types, suggesting that the different species significantly affect the volatile and nonvolatile compounds profiles of FVFs. Lactobacillus casei and Lactobacillus rhamnosus (Type A FVFs) might make a greater contribution to the umami taste. Lactobacillus plantarum and Lactobacillus acidophilus (Type B FVFs) make a greater contribution to the sour taste. Lactobacillus fermentum may be an potential critical contributor to produce volatile compounds. We reveal that different Lactobacillus strains play different roles in modifying these compounds related to flavor and taste features.

Abstract The recent discovery of copper-substituted lead phosphate apatite, also known as LK-99, has caught much attention owing to certain experimental evidence of room-temperature superconductivity, although this claim is currently under intensive debate. Be it superconducting or not, we show that the normal state of this material has peculiar quantum geometrical properties that may be related to the magnetism and the mechanism for flat band superconductivity. Based on a recently proposed spinless two-band tight-binding model for the Pb-Cu hexagonal lattice subset of the crystalline structure, which qualitatively captures the two flat bands in the band structure, we elaborate the highly anisotropic Berry curvature and quantum metric in the regions of Brillouin zone where one flat band is above and the other below the Fermi surface. In these regions, the Berry curvature has a pattern in the planar momentum that remains unchanged along the out-of-plane momentum. Moreover, the net orbital magnetization contributed from the Berry curvature is zero, signifying that the magnetism in this material should come from other sources. The quantum metric has a similar momentum dependence, and its two planar components are found to be roughly the same but the out-of-plane component vanishes, hinting that the superfluid stiffness of the flat band superconductivity, shall it occur, may be quite anisotropic.

Abstract The present study investigates possible links between East Asian Winter Monsoon (EAWM) and North American surface air temperature (Ts) anomalies (NA) during ENSO and neutral ENSO winters. During the neutral ENSO winters, two Rossby wave-packets appear over the Eurasia-western Pacific (upstream) and North Pacific-NA (downstream) regions associated with a strong EAWM. Further analysis suggests that the downstream wave-packet is caused by reflection of the upstream wave-packet over the subtropical western Pacific and amplified over North Pacific. The East Asian subtropical westerly jet stream (EAJS) is intensified in the central and downstream North Pacific, too. Hence, increased barotropic kinetic energy conversion and the interaction between transient eddies and the EAJS tend to maintain the circulation anomaly over North Pacific. Therefore, a strong EAWM tends to results in warm Ts anomalies in northwestern NA via the downstream wave-packet emanating from the central North Pacific toward NA. A weak EAWM has opposite effects but with a smaller magnitude. During ENSO winter, anomalous EAJS is mainly confined over East Asia and does not extend into the central North Pacific. The results confirm that the EAWM has an indirect impact on the Ts anomalies in NA via a modulation of the tropical convection anomalies associated with ENSO. Our results indicate that, for seasonal prediction of Ts anomalies in NA, the influence of the EAWM should be taken into account. It produces different responses in neutral ENSO and in ENSO years.

Abstract Human papillomavirus infection is the main pathogenic factor leading to cervical cancer. About 630 000 new cancers are caused by HPV infection every year, among which cervical cancer accounts for the highest proportion (83%). The burden of cervical cancer is serious in China. Research data shows that there were nearly 110 000 new cases and nearly 50 000 deaths of cervical cancer in China in 2018, accounting for about 20 percent and 16 percent of the global total of cases and deaths, respectively. The World Health Organization's position paper clearly states that HPV vaccination can effectively prevent the occurrence of HPV-related diseases. Across clinical studies and real world data from around the world, HPV vaccines have shown good efficacy and safety. As of October 2019, 98 countries and regions around the world have included HPV vaccine in their national immunization program. However, with the increase of vaccination coverage and indications, the safety of HPV vaccine has become a global public health issue of high concern. Since the launch of HPV vaccine in 2006, many authorities around the world and countries have conducted long-term monitoring of the safety of HPV vaccine after its launch, and accumulated a large number of safety data, which showed that the HPV vaccine was safe and supported the use of HPV vaccine. In this paper, the safety data related to HPV vaccine in the world and mainland China will be combed to provide reference for the HPV vaccination in China.
