Abstract This paper proposes a flexible sensor for detecting cracks on bridges. Strain and deflection sensing modules are integrated on the film that is made of composite conductive materials. By optimizing the preparation ratio and internal structure, the strain detection accuracy and sensitivity of the sensor have been improved. The bridge crack detection accuracy reached 91%, which is higher than current sensors. Experimental results show that the composite material containing 2.23 wt% carbon black (CB) mixed hybrid filler has good linearity, higher accuracy than sensors in use, excellent stretchability (>155%), high gauge factor (GF ~ 43.3), and excellent durability over 2000 stretching-releasing cycles under 10 N. The designed flexible sensor demonstrates the practicality and effectiveness of bridge crack detection and provides a feasible solution for accurate bridge health monitoring in the future.

Abstract Background: A recently hypothesized cause of cell death called disulfidptosis has been linked to the expansion, emigration, and vascular rebuilding of cancer cells. Cancer can be treated by targeting the pathways that trigger cell death.
Aim: To discover the long non-coding RNA of the disulfidaptosis-related lncRNAs (DRLs), prognosis clinical survival, and treat patients with colorectal cancer with medications.
Methods: Initially, we queried the Cancer Genome Atlas database to collect transcriptome, clinical, and genetic mutation data for colorectal cancer (CRC). Training and testing sets for CRC patient transcriptome data were generated randomly. Key long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) related to DRLs were then identified and evaluated using a least absolute shrinkage and selection operator procedure, as well as univariate and multivariate Cox regression models. A prognostic model was then created after risk scoring. Also, Immune infiltration analysis, immune checkpoint analysis, and medication susceptibility analysis were used to investigate the causes of the different prognoses between high and low risk groups. Finally, we validated the differential expression and biomarker potential of risk-predictive lncRNAs through induction using both NCM460 and HT-29 cell lines, as well as a disulfidptosis model.
Results: In this work, eight significant lncRNAs linked to disulfidptosis were found. Gene ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway enrichment analyses of differentially expressed genes between high- and low-risk groups from the prognostic model showed a close relationship with the immune response as well as significant enrichment in neutrophil extracellular trap formation and the IL-17 signaling pathway. Furthermore, significant immune cell variations between the high-risk and low-risk groups were seen, as well as a higher incidence of immunological escape risk in the high-risk group. Finally, Epirubicin, bortezomib, teniposide, and BMS-754807 were shown to have the lowest sensitivity among the four immunotherapy drugs.
Conclusion: Our findings emphasizes the role of disulfidptosis in regulating tumor development, therapeutic response, and patient survival in CRC patients. For the clinical treatment of CRC, these important LncRNAs could serve as viable therapeutic targets.

Abstract Wumei Bolus is a traditional Chinese medicine prescription, first appeared in Shennong Bencao Jing. Modern pharmacology believes that Wumei Bolus has antibacterial, antitussive, sedative, antiviral and anti-tumor effects, and plays a therapeutic role by acting on multi-target/multi-pathway. Moreover, it has great advantages in digestive system diseases, such as repairing the damaged gastrointestinal mucosa and improving the inflammatory environment. This review aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of prescriptions based on the Wumei Bolus treating ulcerative colitis (UC). In this meta-analysis, we searched CNKI, Wanfang Database, VIP, Pubmed, Web of Science (WOS) with language restrictions of Chinese and English for articles published from the establishment of the database to Dec 2022. This meta-analysis controlled randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing the efficacy and safety of Wumei Bolus against ulcerative colitis and using RevMan 5.4 and Stata 15.0to analyze information from the compliant studies. The search incorporated 3145 results (1617 cases assigned into Wumei Bolus group and 1528 cases assigned into control group), from which 37 studies fulfilled our inclusion criteria and were included. The outcomes of this meta-analysis showed that compared to the control group, the Experiment group was significantly more effective (RR = 1.24,95%CI [1.20,1.28])and lower adverse reactions (RR = 0.32, 95%CI [0.20, 0.53]). According to the subgroup analysis, The results showed that the RR = 1.23 and 95%CI [1.16, 1.30] in the group treated with Wumei Bolus alone and the group treated with Western medicine with RR = 1.25 and 95%CI [1.20, 1.30], indicating that the efficacy of Wumei Bolus in the treatment of UC was better and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.00001). The results showed that compared with the control group, the experimental group had more advantages in reducing inflammatory factors whether TNF-α or IL-8 (TNF-α:SMD = −4.44, 95%CI [-5.75, −3.14]; IL-8: SMD = −3.02, 95%CI [-4.06, −1.97]) and improving TCM symptoms and reduced TCM syndrome points (SMD = −3.82, 95%CI [-4.30, −3.34]). There was significant association of the basic treatment of Wumei Bolus improving clinical efficacy, reducing serum pro-inflammatory factors, improving symptoms, and reducing adverse reactions in UC patients. These results were statistically significant (P < 0.00001). The prescriptions based on the Wumei Bolus is greatly related to reducing serum pro-inflammatory factors, improving symptoms, improving clinical efficacy and reducing adverse reactions in the treatment of UC compared to conventional western medicine and improve the total clinical effective rate.

Abstract To assist patients with restricted mobility to control wheelchair freely, this paper presents an eye-movement-controlled wheelchair prototype based on a flexible hydrogel biosensor and Wavelet Transform-Support Vector Machine (WT-SVM) algorithm. Considering the poor deformability and biocompatibility of rigid metal electrodes, we propose a flexible hydrogel biosensor made of conductive HPC/PVA (Hydroxypropyl cellulose/Polyvinyl alcohol) hydrogel and flexible PDMS (Polydimethylsiloxane) substrate. The proposed biosensor is affixed to the wheelchair user's forehead to collect electrooculogram (EOG) and strain signals, which are the basis to recognize eye movements. The low Young's modulus (286 KPa) and exceptional breathability (18 g m

Abstract Due to its unique physical and chemical properties, polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) is widely used in many applications, in which covalent cross-linking is commonly used to cure the fluidic polymer. The formation of a non-covalent network achieved through the incorporation of terminal groups that exhibit strong intermolecular interactions has also been reported to improve the mechanical properties of PDMS. Through the design of a terminal group capable of two-dimensional (2D) assembly, rather than the generally used multiple hydrogen bonding motifs, we have recently demonstrated an approach for inducing long-range structural ordering of PDMS, resulting in a dramatic change in the polymer from a fluid to a viscous solid. Here we present an even more surprising terminal-group effect: simply replacing a hydrogen with a methoxy group leads to extraordinary enhancement of the mechanical properties, giving rise to a thermoplastic PDMS material without covalent cross-linking. This finding would update the general notion that less polar and smaller terminal groups barely affect polymer properties. Based on a detailed study of the thermal, structural, morphological and rheological properties of the terminal-functionalized PDMS, we revealed that 2D assembly of the terminal groups results in networks of PDMS chains, which are arranged as domains with long-range one-dimensional (1D) periodic order, thereby increasing the storage modulus of the PDMS to exceed its loss modulus. Upon heating, the 1D periodic order is lost at around 120 °C, while the 2D assembly is maintained up to ∼160 °C. The 2D and 1D structures are recovered in sequence upon cooling. Due to the thermally reversible, stepwise structural disruption/formation as well as the lack of covalent cross-linking, the terminal-functionalized PDMS shows thermoplastic behavior and self-healing properties. The terminal group presented herein, which can form a 'plane', might also drive other polymers to assemble into a periodically ordered network structure, thereby allowing for significant modulation of their mechanical properties.

Abstract Currently, there is still an intense demand for a simple and scalable delivery platform for peptide-based cancer vaccines. Herein, a cyclodextrin-based polymer nanovaccine platform (CDNP) is designed for the codelivery of peptides with two immune adjuvants [the Toll-like receptor (TLR)7/8 agonist R848 and the TLR9 agonist CpG] that is broadly applicable to epitope peptides with diverse sequences. Specifically, the cyclodextrin-based polymers are covalently linked to epitope peptides via a bioreactive bond-containing cross-linker (PNC-DTDE-PNC) and then physically load with R848 and CpG to obtain CDNP. The CDNP efficiently accumulats in the lymph nodes (LNs), greatly facilitating antigen capture and cross-presentation by antigen-presenting cells. The immunogenicity of the epitope peptides is significantly enhanced by the codelivery and synergy of the adjuvants, and the CDNP shows the ability to inhibit tumor progression in diverse tumor-bearing mouse models. It is concluded that CDNP holds promise as an optimized peptide-based cancer vaccine platform.

Abstract Sarcopenia occurs in patients with Crohn's disease (CD). However, the association between sarcopenia and loss of response (LOR) to biologic agents remains unclear. This study explored such an association in CD patients. This retrospective study included 94 CD patients who received biologic therapy. The skeletal muscle cross-sectional area at the third lumbar was assessed by computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging for sarcopenia evaluation. A LOR was defined by fecal calprotectin (FC) < 250 μg/g or >50% reduction from baseline levels or other factors, such as the used agent being replaced by other biologic agents. The association between sarcopenia and LOR was assessed by logistic regression analysis. LOR was observed in 54 patients (57.4%). The prevalence of sarcopenia in the LOR group was higher than that in response group (70.4% vs. 40.0%, p = 0.003). Sarcopenia (odds ratio [OR] = 3.89, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.31-11.54), Montreal L1 type (OR = 0.20, 95% CI: 0.06-0.60), perianal lesions (OR = 4.08, 95% CI: 1.31-12.70), and monocytes percentage (OR = 1.27, 95% CI: 1.02-1.57) at baseline were independent associated factors for LOR. Sarcopenia was also associated with LOR in patients who received infliximab (OR = 3.31, 95% CI: 1.11-9.87). Montreal L1 type, perianal lesions, and monocytes percentage (Model 1), and with additional consideration of sarcopenia (Model 2), were developed to predict LOR. Model 2 showed better performance than Model 1 (area under the curve [AUC] 0.82 vs. 0.75). Sarcopenia was associated with the LOR to biological agents or infliximab in adult patients with CD.
