Abstract In this work, Ta-doped ZnO (Ta-ZnO) nanomaterials were synthesized by the hydrothermal method at different temperatures (110, 150, and 170 °C) for the photodegradation of methylene blue (MB) under visible light. Ta doping significantly affects the crystal defects, optical properties, and MB photocatalytic efficiency of ZnO materials. The optical absorption edge of Ta-ZnO 150 was redshifted compared to undoped ZnO, correlating to bandgap narrowing (

Abstract Porous TiO2/activated carbon (AC) material was synthesized by grafting peroxo-hydro titanium complexes to rice husk-derived activated carbon. It was found that the morphology of TiO2/AC consists of TiO2 fine particles highly dispersed on the AC matrix. The obtained TiO2/AC composites with high surface area and a red shift exhibit an excellent adsorption performance in both single and trinary system toward methylene blue (MB), methyl orange (MO), and methyl red (MR). The isotherm models including extended Langmuir, P-factor, ideal adsorbed solution theory (IAST) for Langmuir, Freundlich, and Sips models were applied to study the adsorption equilibrium data of trinary solutions. It was found that IAST for Freundlich and Langmuir models were the most suitable one to describe the adsorption of the three dyes on TiO2/AC material. The high maximum adsorption capacities (mmol g-1) in single/trinary mixture were found as 0.452/0.340 for MB; 0.329/0.321 for MO; and 0.806/2.04 for MR. Moreover, the recyclability experiments showed that the adsorbent could be reused through photocatalytic self-cleaning for at least three cycles with stable capacity. Thus, the TiO2/AC can be effectively employed for the removal of dyes from industrial textile wastewater.

Abstract Microplastics (MPs), which are ubiquitous, are no longer novel emerging pollutants, yet our knowledge of them is insufficient. This study investigates the prevalence of MPs and trace metals in sediment belonging to Ma River, Vietnam, and their interaction with various parameters, including nutrients such as total carbon (TC), total nitrogen (TN), and total phosphorus (TP), grain sizes, and MPs in surface water. The study revealed that the abundance of MPs in sediment (MPs/S) is relatively high (i.e., 1328.3 ± 1925.5 items.kg

Abstract To evaluate silver nanoparticles’ (AgNPs) therapeutic and clinical potentials, antibacterial action, blood compatibility, and antiplatelet activities are the main concerns for toxicity profiling. Heat-denatured lysozyme-mediated formulation stabilized the AgNPs, thereby providing more bactericidal activity and blood compatibility. The study of the synthesis of AgNPs suggests the rapid and cost-effective formulation of AgNPs by one-step reaction using a 10:1 ratio of silver nitrate and lysozyme by incubating at 60 °C for two hours. Characterization of AgNPs was analyzed by UV–Visible spectroscopy, DLS, TEM, EDX, XRD, AFM, and FTIR, followed by antibacterial, hemocompatibility, and platelet aggregation testing. The average size of synthesized AgNPs was found to be 94.10 nm with 0.45 mV zeta potential and 0.293 polydispersity index by DLS. The TEM and EXD results indicated homogeneously 28.08 nm spherical-shaped pure formations of AgNPs. The XRD peaks showed the synthesis of small AgNPs with a crystallite size of 22.88 nm, while the AFM confirmed the homogeneity and smoothness of the monodispersed AgNPs. The FTIR spectra specified the coating of the lysozyme-derived amide group on the AgNPs surface, which provides stability and functionality of nanoparticles. The antibacterial activity of AgNPs was remarkable against six pathogenic bacteria and three multidrug resistance (MDR) strains (i.e., Escherichia coli , Klebsiella aerogenes , and Pseudomonas aeruginosa ), which exhibited inhibition zones with diameters ranging between 13.5 ± 0.2 mm to 19.0 ± 0.3 mm. The non-hemolytic nature of the AgNPs was calculated by percentage hemolysis with four concentrations. The negative result of platelet aggregation using platelet-rich plasma suggests the antiplatelet effect of AgNPs. Only minor hemolysis of 6.17% in human erythrocytes and mild platelet aggregation of 1.98% were induced, respectively, by the use of 1000 µL of 1 mM AgNPs, which contains approximately 107.8 μg silver. The results indicated that the antiplatelet ...

Abstract Nanosized zinc oxide is an intriguing material that can be applied in various fields. In this study, Ce doped ZnO nano-catalysts (Ce-ZnO) were synthesized by two different methods (i.e., hydrothermal (Ce-ZnO-HT) and polymer gel combustion (Ce-ZnO-CB) methods) to compare their photodegradation efficiency. The prepared material characteristics were investigated using XRD, SEM, TEM, FTIR, UV-Vis, PL, XPS, EDS, and BET. The bandgap of both nanoparticles (NPs) was 2.95 eV, despite the fact that the morphology of Ce-ZnO-HT NPs was 1D-rod-shaped and that of Ce-ZnO-CB NPs was 0D-spherical. However, the surface area and oxygen vacancy rate of Ce-ZnO-HT NPs were higher than those of Ce-ZnO-CB NPs. These differences are directly related to the photocatalytic activity of Ce-ZnO NPs. Accordingly, the results showed that photocatalytic efficiency was classified in the order Ce-ZnO-HT > Ce-ZnO-CB > pure ZnO, and the photocatalytic reaction rate constant of Ce-ZnO-HT used to decompose MB was 3.0 times higher than that of Ce-ZnO-CB. Interestingly, the photodegradation mechanism study revealed that hydroxyl radicals and holes were shown to be more important contributors to methyl blue degradation than photo-induced electrons and superoxide radical ions.

Abstract The SnO2/g-C3N4 composites were fabricated via an annealing mixture of g-C3N4 and SnO2, which were obtained from calcinating melamine and hydrothermal treatment of SnCl₄ solution, respectively. The photocatalytic properties of g-C3N4/SnO2 were studied over the degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) under visible light, which exhibits a significantly improved photocatalytic activity compared to the single components, g-C3N4 and SnO2. The enhancement in photocatalytic activity of SnO2/g-C3N4 could be described by the S-scheme pathway, in which the effective charge transfer between components is demonstrated toward the suppression in recombination of the photogenerated electron-hole pairs within redox potential conservation. Besides, a new criterion, photochemical space-time yield, was applied to evaluate the photocatalytic performance of our samples.

Abstract A facial differential pulse voltammetric procedure using a glassy carbon electrode modified with zeolite imidazolate framework-67/graphitic carbon nitride (ZIF-67/g-C3N4) for the diclofenac (DCF) determination is demonstrated. ZIF-67/g-C3N4 with different mass ratios of the components was synthesized in a self-assembly process. The obtained materials were characterized by using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), EDX-mapping, and nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherms. The peak current varies linearly with the DCF concentration in the range of 0.2–2.2 μmol·L−1 and has a detection limit of 0.071 μmol·L−1. The modified electrode exhibits acceptable repeatability, reproducibility, and selectivity towards DCF. The proposed electrode allows determining DCF in human urine without pretreatment, and the results are comparable with those determined with HPLC.
