Abstract Encapsulation technology protects the beneficial microorganisms, which are the sources of Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P), and Potassium (K), with a carrier material and improves the nutrient uptake from the soil. Pseudomonas fluorescens, gram-negative bacteria, was selected as the microorganism for encapsulation. A chitosan carrier (3 %), a polysaccharide, was chosen for the encapsulation of the bacterial strain to use as biofertilizers by standardization with two carriers, sodium alginate and chitosan. P. fluorescens encapsulated with chitosan showed a higher shelf life than sodium alginate. The shelf life of the encapsulated culture (7 × 10

Abstract Occurrence, distribution, and toxicity assessment of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in pyrolysis steams (biochar, biocrude, and biogas) of three agricultural residues was investigated at pyrolysis temperatures of 400-800 °C. Increasing PAHs formation was observed in the narrow temperature range (500-600 °C) in all feedstocks due to temperature-induced dehydration, decarboxylation, and dehydrogenation reactions. Low molecular weight PAHs (naphthalene, phenanthrene) were dominant in all product streams while high molecular weight PAHs were found in negligible concentrations. Leaching studies showed that pyrolyzed biochars produced at lower temperatures are more prone to leaching due to the presence of hydrophilic amorphous uncarbonized structures, while the presence of hydrophobic carbonized matrix with denser and stronger polymetallic complex prevents the leaching of PAHs in the high temperature pyrolyzed biochar. Low leaching potential, low toxic equivalency, and permissible total PAHs values in biochar derived from all three feedstocks warrant the broader application and ensure ecological safety.

Abstract Calcium hydroxyapatite (Ca-HAp) was synthesized from calcium carbonate (CaCO₃) extracted from a paper mill sludge. The extraction of CaCO₃ was carried out by chemical precipitation process and synthesized to HAp nanoparticle under appropriate stoichiometric condition through wet chemical precipitation process. The size of the HAp nanoparticle was 42.5 nm under an optimized aging period of 24 h. This work aims in the batch adsorption of arsenic, an anionic metal arsenic in the form of Arsenite: As(III) on the synthesized Ca-HAp in laboratory scale. Batch kinetics studies were conducted for varying operational parameters such as temperature, initial adsorbate concentration, dye solution pH and rotation speed (RPM). In comparison with the two suggested isotherm models, Langmuir isotherm was suited to this adsorption process with a correlation coefficient of 0.92 and isotherm constant as 1.18 (KL). Chemisorption was found to be the rate-limiting mechanism for the sorption of arsenite onto Ca-HAp and thus followed pseudo-second-order kinetics. A maximum monolayer adsorption of 0.43 mg/g of arsenic was obtained at an equilibrium time of 60 min with 93% to 94.2% removal efficiency.

Abstract By employing first principles density functional theory calculations on thickness dependent structural and electronic properties of (0001) surface slabs of wurtzite MX compounds, our study demonstrated the possibility of the existence of 2D layered materials from II-VI group traditional semiconducting compounds that are widely used in various fields. Abstract Hexamethylenetetramine (HMTA) is one of the most versatile and most utilized nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds in academia and industry. Most of the reactions involving HMTA employ stoichiometric or excess amounts of acid, which hamper the sustainability of the reactions. Herein, we report the first example of the ruthenium-mediated decomposition of HMTA at room temperature, supported by a detailed mechanistic study using thermogravimetric analysis/differential thermal analysis, variable-temperature NMR, UV-vis spectroscopy, and density functional theory techniques. The mechanism study also involves a comparison of the decomposition of HMTA, protonated HMTA, [RuCl

Abstract Water quality monitoring has become more critical in recent years to ensure the availability of clean and safe water from natural aquifers and to understand the evolution of water contaminants across time and space. The conventional water monitoring techniques comprise of sample collection, preservation, preparation, tailed by laboratory testing and analysis with cumbersome wet chemical routes and expensive instrumentation. Despite the high accuracy of these methods, the high testing costs, laborious procedures, and maintenance associated with them don't make them lucrative for end end-users and field testing. As the participation of ultimate stakeholders, that is, common man for water quality and quantity can play a pivotal role in ensuring the sustainability of our aquifers, thus it is essential to develop and deploy portable and user-friendly technical systems for monitoring water sources in real-time or on-site. The present review emphasizes here on possible approaches including optical (absorbance, fluorescence, colorimetric, X-ray fluorescence, chemiluminescence), electrochemical (ASV, CSV, CV, EIS, and chronoamperometry), electrical, biological, and surface-sensing (SPR and SERS), as candidates for developing such platforms. The existing developments, their success, and bottlenecks are discussed in terms of various attributes of water to escalate the essentiality of water quality devices development meeting ASSURED criterion for societal usage. These platforms are also analyzed in terms of their market potential, advancements required from material science aspects, and possible integration with IoT solutions in alignment with Industry 4.0 for environmental application.
