Abstract Eosinophilia in not an uncommon findings in the intensive care unit (ICU); however, DRESS (Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms) syndrome, which is characterized by a hypersensitivity reaction to drugs and manifests as eosinophilia, systemic involvement and maculopapular erythematous rash 2-6 weeks after exposure to the offending drug, is an exceptional occurrence. We present the first case described in the literature of DRESS syndrome with pulmonary involvement in the form of interstitial pneumonitis and persistent adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) secondary to proton pump inhibitors (PPI). The patient made a good recovery after withdrawal of the offending drug and long-term treatment with systemic corticosteroids. We also present a systematic review of all cases of DRESS with pulmonary involvement in the form of interstitial pneumonitis and cases of PPI-induced DRESS published to date; none of these describe pulmonary involvement.

Abstract Dominance is usually viewed as a positive male attribute, but this is not typically the case for women. Using a novel dataset of student evaluations of teaching in a school of Business and Economics of a selective university, we construct the face width-to-height ratio (fWHR) as a proxy for perceived dominance to assess whether individuals with a higher ratio obtain better evaluations. Our results show that a higher fWHR is associated with a better evaluation for male faculty, while the opposite is the case for female faculty. These results are not due to differences in teachers' quality or beauty. In terms of magnitude, the effect of the fWHR is much larger for female professors. To the extent that fWHR is a good proxy of perceived dominance, it appears that conformity to traditional gender norms pays off for both men and women. However, the cost of challenging these norms is much larger for women than for men.

Title translation Transhumanism and desire: phenomenological approach.
Abstract In this article we approach to understand the presuppositions of the transhumanist current to recognize some of the fundamental and universal notes of human nature that are manifested through its proposals. From the approaches of transhumanism, the human being can be recognized as a yearning being, a being who naturally desires. Moreover, it is recognized that this desire motivates the action of man and that the person is always on the way to perfection, motivated to overcome without limits what reality offers him to fulfill his desire for fulfillment. In addition, the main proposals for human improvement sustained from transhumanism are analyzed to understand which are the desires of the heart of man that are manifested through them. The recognition of these desires can be taken as a good starting point for the dialogue between transhumanism and other currents that recognize desire as a fundamental part of a human nature. We also judge whether transhumanism can be understood as an adequate response to satisfy the deepest desires of the human heart for happiness and fulfillment, concluding that transhumanist theses are insufficient when it comes to calming the fundamental concerns of human heart.

Abstract The Cerro Overo volcano is a monogenetic center of the Holocene age located in the north of Chile in the Central Volcanic Zone of the Andes, which is part of the Altiplano-Puna Volcanic Complex. Based on petrological and geochemical data, it has been classified by Ureta et al. (2021) as a phreatomagmatic explosion crater generating a maar-type structure with a diameter of 600 m. Our interest lies in the morphological difference between Cerro Overo with the nearby eruptive centers. Its current morphology is inferred from a phreatomagmatic eruption during its magma ascent. The initial hypothesis is that the electrical resistivity model would allow the identification of fluids and typical structures of magma-water explosions. Broadband magnetotelluric (MT) soundings were carried out in the surroundings of the volcano, managing to identify the distribution of low-resistivity structures up to the first kilometers, becoming more resistive with depth. This structure would correspond to the diatreme as a remnant of the eruption percolated by fluids in its upper part.

Abstract Villarrica volcano, in the Southern Andes of Chile, is at the top of the Specific Threat Ranking for Active Volcanoes, published by the National Geology and Mining Service of Chile during 2019. In recent years, broadband magnetotelluric measurements have been carried out around this volcano, to study its internal structure. Combining these data with information obtained from long-period magnetotelluric stations, an electrical resistivity model for this volcano and its surroundings is presented, identifying highly conductive anomalies down to depths of 15 km below sea level. The model obtained and presented in this work is complementary to the project of monitoring geophysical variables such as electrical resistivity in volcanoes, through the installation of permanent magnetotelluric stations. Villarrica volcano is now the first volcano with magnetotelluric monitoring in Chile, in a collaborative project between the University of Chile and the National Geology and Mining Service (SERNAGEOMIN), through the Southern Andes Volcano Observatory (OVDAS). Details about the installation, measurements and first results of this experiment will be part of this presentation.

Abstract Enterovirus D68 (EV-D68) contributes significantly to pathogen-induced respiratory illnesses and severe neurological disorders like acute flaccid myelitis. We lack EV-D68 preventive measures, and knowledge of its molecular and cellular biology is incomplete. Multiple studies have highlighted the role of membrane compartments and autophagy during picornavirus multiplication. Galitska et al. found that EV-D68 also exploits cellular autophagic compartments and relies on autophagic machinery as pro-viral factors (G. Galitska, A. Jassey, M. A. Wagner, N. Pollack, et al., mBio e02141-23, 2023, https://doi.org/10.1128/mbio.02141-23). Surprisingly, failure of the autophagic compartment to acidify early during EV-D68 infection causes a delay in RNA synthesis that has not been reported for other enteroviruses. This delay appears to reflect the inability of viral proteins 2B and 3A to engage membranes stably, leading to their degradation in the cytoplasm. Observations like this underscore the importance of studying individual members of the virus genus. It will be interesting to understand how this phenomenon connects to EV-D68 pathogenesis, if at all.
