    Abstract The displacement of a sprint kayak can be described by a one-dimensional mathematical model, which, in its simplest case, is analogous to the free-fall problem with quadratic drag and constant propulsion. To describe realistic cases, it is necessary to introduce a propulsion capable of reproducing the characteristics of the kayak stroke, including periodicity, average force and effects of stroke frequency, among others. Addressing the problem in terms of a Fourier series allows us to separate the equation into two parts, one of which is equivalent to the constant propulsion case and results in an asymptotic expression, while the second accounts for the periodic contributions. This approach allows us to solve several cases of interest: to propose a quadrature rule for the asymptotic part that allows fast estimations; to compare results with the literature; and finally to propose a general mathematical method for this problem which could help to understand some key strategies in the kayak race.

    Abstract Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a biological therapy in which one of the mechanisms of action is the stimulation of biological processes such as cell proliferation. The size of PRP’s effect depends on multiple factors, one of the most important being the composition of PRP. The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between cell proliferation and the levels of certain growth factors (IGF-1, HGF, PDGF, TGF-β and VEG) in PRP. First, the composition and effect on cell proliferation of PRP versus platelet-poor plasma (PPP) were compared. Subsequently, the correlation between each growth factor of PRP and cell proliferation was evaluated. Cell proliferation was higher in cells incubated with lysates derived from PRP compared to those cultured with lysates derived from PPP. In terms of composition, the levels of PDGF, TGF-β, and VEGF were significantly higher in PRP. When analyzing the PRP growth factors, IGF-1 was the only factor that correlated significantly with cell proliferation. Of those analyzed, the level of IGF-1 was the only one that did not correlate with platelet levels. The magnitude of PRP’s effect depends not only on platelet count but also on other platelet-independent molecules.

    Abstract Com este artigo espera-se compreender parte do cenário de fortalecimento das práticas autoritárias e populismo autoritário, no Sul global, decorrente da instrumentalização política da guerra às drogas. Para tanto iremos nos valer de artigos de periódicos científicos, teses, capítulos de livros e documentos que versem sobre os temas da pesquisa. Pudemos verificar a afinidade entre guerra às drogas e autoritarismo; as relações entre tráfico de drogas, violência e milícias no Brasil. Estabelecemos paralelos com os casos filipino e mexicano; e verificamos como a implementação de reformas neoliberais aumentou o tamanho da indústria de narcóticos e serviu para reprimir a oposição popular. Concluímos que a guerra às drogas contribui para a universalização do neoliberalismo, de práticas autoritárias e discursos populistas reacionários.

    Abstract Uma antropologia da Cracolândia deve ser capaz de vincular os caminhos em torno do “fluxo” com as trajetórias tornadas possíveis pelos encontros de materiais e pessoas. Pouco se fala sobre o que move essas pessoas para formar conjuntos sui generis e sobre o que as atrai para o “fluxo”. Esta é a tarefa que procuramos empreender neste artigo. Para tal, empreendemos uma pesquisa de cunho etnográfico que nos aproximou da imaginação conceitual e das ações das próprias pessoas que habitam essas aglomerações urbanas. Pudemos então indagar sobre o que nos conta a categoria “fluxo”, sobre as relações ali estabelecidas que tornam aquele espaço habitável. Concluímos que no “fluxo”, e talvez isto o torne atraente, não há fato consumado, como um objeto, mas, acontecimentos, entrelaçamentos passageiros de materiais em movimento, coisas que, à medida que a vida prossegue, demandam esforço incessante para se manterem íntegras face aos ataques do meio.
