    Abstract Bioceramics, with excellent bioactivity and biocompatibility, have been widely used in dentistry, particularly in endodontics. Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) is the most widely used bioceramic in endodontics. Recently, many new bioceramics have been developed, showing good potential for the treatment of endodontic diseases. This paper reviews the characteristics of bioceramics and their applications in various clinical endodontic situations, including root-end filling, root canal therapy, vital pulp therapy, apexification/regenerative endodontic treatment, perforation repair, and root defect repair. Relevant literature published from 1993 to 2023 was searched by keywords in PubMed and Web of Science. Current evidence supports the predictable outcome of MTA in the treatment of endodontic diseases. Although novel bioceramics such as Biodentine, EndoSequence, and calcium-enriched mixtures have shown promising clinical outcomes, more well-controlled clinical trials are still needed to provide high-level evidence for their application in endodontics. In addition, to better tackle the clinical challenges in endodontics, efforts are needed to improve the bioactivity of bioceramics, particularly to enhance their antimicrobial activity and mechanical properties and reduce their setting time and solubility.

    Abstract Acoustic behaviour plays a significant role in insect communications, but is rarely reported in their immature stages. Larvae of Lucanidae bear paired stridulatory organs on their thoracic legs, which could produce sounds as communicational signals. However, the species-specific differences on stridulatory organs and acoustic signals are far from fully investigated. In this study, the larval acoustic behaviours of three lucanid species, Lucanus dybowski, Prosopocoilus confucius and P. girafa were recorded and compared for the first time. The sound producing mechanism was described in detail based on video recordings, morphological observations, and acoustic analyses. The larvae of all three species are able to produce sounds by scraping the plectrum on the metatrochanter against the pars stridens on the mesocoxa during disturbance. The sounds exhibit species-specific differences in terms of acoustic parameters: the larvae of L. dybowski produce short-duration (140-200 ms), single-pulse and low-frequency (∼210 Hz) sounds; P. confucius produce long-duration (500-800 ms), triple-pulse and low-frequency (∼280 Hz) sounds; P. girafa produce long-duration (500-560 ms), double-pulse and low-frequency (∼260 Hz) sounds. The amounts and arrangements of the teeth on stridulatory organs also exhibit differences on specific level. The acoustic signals and stridulatory organs were compared using principal component analysis.

    Abstract Microbial nitrogen metabolism is a complicated and key process in mediating environmental pollution and greenhouse gas emissions in rivers. However, the interactive drivers of microbial nitrogen metabolism in rivers have not been identified. Here, we analyze the microbial nitrogen metabolism patterns in 105 rivers in China driven by 26 environmental and socioeconomic factors using an interpretable causal machine learning (ICML) framework. ICML better recognizes the complex relationships between factors and microbial nitrogen metabolism than traditional linear regression models. Furthermore, tipping points and concentration windows were proposed to precisely regulate microbial nitrogen metabolism. For example, concentrations of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) below tipping points of 6.2 and 4.2 mg/L easily reduce bacterial denitrification and nitrification, respectively.     Abstract Low-carbon economy is not only an important topic for the globe but also a serious challenge for China with its economy entering a new level. Based on the DEA-undesirable model and Malmquist index model, urban agglomeration of the Yangtze River Delta and the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area from 2010 to 2021 were selected as research samples. Based on that, a panel generalized method of moments model was constructed to analyze the effects of the education level, technological development, and their interaction on urban carbon emission efficiency. It found that 1) the carbon emission efficiency of the Yangtze River Delta and the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area urban agglomerations shows a steady growth trend, but the overall level is low and there are regional differences, among which pure technical efficiency mainly limits the improvement of comprehensive efficiency; 2) the education level and technological development have a high positive correlation on urban carbon emission, and their interaction is conducive to the improvement of carbon emission efficiency. The carbon emission efficiency has a significant advantage under the influence of control variables, such as the economic development level, industrial structure upgrading, opening-up degree, and Internet penetration rate. 3) According to the economic dimension and population dimension, the samples of the Yangtze River Delta and the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area were divided into large cities and small cities, and regression results showed no substantial changes. It shows that the research conclusion is scientific. According to the aforementioned conclusion, this paper puts forward corresponding countermeasures and suggestions.

    Abstract Abstract The Immersed Boundary Method (IBM) has an advantage in simulating fluid–structure interaction, owning to its simplicity, intuitiveness, and ease of handling complex object boundaries. The interpolation function plays a vital role in IBM and it is usually computationally intensive. For moving or deforming solids, the interpolation weights of all the immersed boundary points ought to be updated every time step, which takes quite a lot CPU time. Since the interpolation procedure within all uniform structured grids is highly repetitive and very similar, we propose a simple and generalized Discretized Immersed Boundary Method (DIBM), which significantly improves efficiency by discretizing the interpolation functions onto subgrid points within each control volume and reusing a predefined universal interpolation stencil. The accuracy and performance of DIBM are analyzed using both theoretical estimation and simulation tests. The results show speedup ratios of 30–40 or even higher using DIBM when compared with conventional IBM for typical moving boundary simulations like particle-laden flows, while the error is estimated to be under 1% and can be further decreased by using finer subgrid stencils. By balancing the performance and accuracy demands, DIBM provides an efficient alternative framework for handling moving boundaries in incompressible viscous flows.

    Abstract Existing power anomaly detection is mainly based on analyzing static offline data. But this method takes a long time and has low identification accuracy when detecting timing and frequency anomalies, since this method requires offline screening, classification and preprocessing of the collected data, which is very laborious. Anomaly detection with supervised learning requires a large amount of abnormal data and cannot detect unknown anomalies. So, this paper innovatively proposes the idea of applying Time-series Generative Adversarial Networks (Time-GAN) in a dispatching automation system for the identification, diagnosis and prediction of massive data flow anomalies. First of all, regarding the problem of insufficient abnormal data, we use Time-GAN to generate a large number of reliable datasets for training fault diagnosis models. In addition, Time-GAN can ameliorate the imbalance between various types of data. Secondly, unsupervised learning methods such as Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise (DBSCAN) and K-means are used to detect unknown anomalies that may exist in the power grid. Finally, some supervised learning methods are selected to compare with unsupervised learning methods. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has a higher recognition rate of known anomalies than other benchmark algorithms and it can find new unknown anomalies. It lays a good foundation for the safe, stable, high-quality and economical operation of the power grid.
