Abstract In this study, activated carbon prepared from Acacia crassicarpa bark was prepared and studied for the potential development of low-cost, carbon-based adsorbents that remove industrial dyes from aqueous solutions. Various spectroscopy techniques and surface analyses were used to characterize the adsorbents. The adsorption of methyl orange (MO) and methylene blue (MB) onto the material was investigated under optimal experimental conditions including temperature, adsorbent dosage, and initial concentration of chemicals. The Langmuir isotherm model was observed to fit the adsorption data well. The maximum adsorption capacities predicted by the Langmuir isotherm were found to be 10.36 mg.g-1 for MO and 15.34 mg.g-1 for MB. The adsorbents were better able to remove the cationic dye than the anionic dye. The results of this study will be useful for future scale-up production of low-cost adsorbents using Acacia crassicarpa for the removal of cationic and anionic dyes.

Abstract Introduction: Linezolid (LZD) plays an important role in the treatment of severe infections caused by Gram-positive bacteria. Thrombocytopenia is regarded as one of the most common side effects of linezolid, which results from the destruction of platelets or myelosuppression. The study aimed to identify the risk factors associated with the development of thrombocytopenia in Vietnamese patients.
Methodology: This retrospective, descriptive cross-sectional study was performed on adult patients who received parenteral LZD therapy (1,200 mg/day) in at least 3 days between January 2020 and June 2021 at a tertiary referral hospital in Vietnam. Thrombocytopenia was defined as either a final platelet count of less than 100 G/L or a 25% decrease in platelet count from baseline. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was applied to predict risk factors associated with LZD-induced thrombocytopenia.
    Results: In the 208 patients included in the study, the average age was 69 and males accounted for 73.1%. LZD-induced thrombocytopenia occurred in 37% of patients. LZD-induced thrombocytopenia was significantly associated with shock (HR = 8.26, 95% CI 3.82 - 17.84, p < 0.001), baseline creatinine clearance (HR = 1.02, 95% CI [1.01 - 1.03], p = 0.002), and duration of LZD treatment of at least 14 days (HR = 4.45, 95% CI [1.83 - 11.05], p = 0.001).
Conclusions: The results showed that thrombocytopenia was fairly common in patients using linezolid. Shock, renal failure, and duration of linezolid therapy of at least 14 days were significant risk factors for the incidence of linezolid-induced thrombocytopenia.

Abstract Metal-organic framework composites, which are combined from metal-organic framework and advanced carbon material, have drawn great attention in many fields of application such as environmental remediation and catalysts. Within this paper, the carbon/MIL-53(Fe) composite was fabricated via an in situ synthesis, in which N-containing carbon dots (NCDs) were mixed with MOF precursors’ solutions under various ratios before going through the solvothermal stage. It was showed that the introduction of a certain amount of NCDs would affect characteristic features and improve the photocatalytic performance of final products. The optimal doping content of NCDs in NCD/MIL-53(Fe) composite was determined. SEM images showed that the M-140 appeared as hexagonal bipyramid-shaped crystals with an average size of 700 nm. Compared with pristine MIL-53(Fe), the M-140 was more visibly light-responsive, and its calculated band gap energy was approximately 2.3 eV. In addition, M-140 catalyst also displayed more excellent photocatalytic activity for Methylene Blue degradation in a pH range from 5 to 7. Under optimal conditions, MB was achieved within 60 minutes and the removal rate was nearly 100% after 5 cycles. The photocatalytic mechanism of the obtained NCD/MIL-53(Fe) composite was discussed.

Abstract This study reviews the current supporting laws, regulations, and policies in Vietnam and their applicability in the effective implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) agriculture activities in Vietnam. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) is responsible for the development of NDC activities for the agricultural sector. It can be noted that there is a strong supporting legal framework in Vietnam. There are, however, some challenges and gaps that could potentially affect the effective implementation of NDC activities in agriculture. The study considered the following five areas as critical to NDC implementation: 1) awareness and technical capacity; 2) implementation coordination; 3) downscaling to the provinces; 4) engagement of private sector and NGOs; and 5) regulatory framework. Some recommendations are proposed on how to address the challenges in the five areas identified.

Abstract Abstract Derailed transmembrane receptor trafficking could be a hallmark of tumorigenesis and increased tumor invasiveness, but receptor dynamics have not been used to differentiate metastatic cancer cells from less invasive ones. Using single-particle tracking techniques, we developed a phenotyping asssay named Transmembrane Receptor Dynamics (TReD), studied the dynamics of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) in seven breast epithelial cell lines and developed a phenotyping assay named Transmembrane Receptor Dynamics (TReD). Here we show a clear evidence that increased EGFR diffusivity and enlarged EGFR confinement size in the plasma membrane (PM) are correlated with the enhanced metastatic potential in these cell lines. By comparing the TReD results with the gene expression profiles, we found a clear negative correlation between the EGFR diffusivities and the breast cancer luminal differentiation scores (r = −0.75). Upon the induction of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), EGFR diffusivity significantly increased for the non-tumorigenic MCF10A (99%) and the non-invasive MCF7 (56%) cells, but not for the highly metastatic MDA-MB-231 cell. We believe that the reorganization of actin filaments during EMT modified the PM structures, causing the receptor dynamics to change. TReD can thus serve as a new biophysical marker to probe the metastatic potential of cancer cells and even to monitor the transition of metastasis.
