Abstract Abstract Background Patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) experience high levels of anxiety that may cause instability of hemodynamic indices, increased risk of ischemia, myocardial infarction and poor quality of life. Aromatherapy can affect patients’ anxiety levels and improve hemodynamic indices. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of aromatherapy on anxiety and hemodynamic indices in ACS patients. Methods This study was a double-blind, randomized clinical trial conducted on 154 ACS patients. The participants were classified into two equal groups of intervention and placebo through the block randomization method. The data collection tools consisted of demographic information, a shortened 6-item version of the Spielberger questionnaire and a form of hemodynamic indices. For two consecutive nights, the intervention group inhaled 7 drops of the chamomile essential oil () and the placebo group inhaled 7 drops of the sesame oil poured on a sterile cotton ball. The hemodynamic indices were collected half an hour before, one and four hours after the intervention until the next morning. The Spielberger questionnaire was completed once before the intervention and once after the end of the intervention, by the researcher through an interview. The number of heart rate (HR) was counted for a full minute. Also, the blood pressure (BP) of all the samples was measured by the researcher. Data analysis was done using Chi-square, paired t-test, and analysis of variance (ANOVA) in SPSS22. Results The mean and standard deviation of the age of patients were 58/2 ± 11.6 and 59.7% of them were female. The results of ANOVA showed a significantly lower anxiety score as well as systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP) and HR in the intervention group compared to those of the placebo group (P < 0.001). The decrease in anxiety score after the intervention, in the intervention and placebo groups was (5.2 ± 1.9) and (1 ± 1. 18) respectively. In the intervention group, the SBP and DBP after the ...

Abstract Introduction The reciprocation between systemic inflammatory markers (SIMs), dyslipidemia, and hot flashes (HFs) can play a part in the pathogenesis of endothelial dysfunction through menopause. This study intended to determine the association between some SIMs, lipids, and HFs in healthy menopausal women. Materials and methods We designed a cross-sectional study in which 160 healthy menopausal women aged 40-60 were enrolled. Concerning their HFs status, they were stratified into two groups by consecutive sampling: without HFs (n = 40) and with HFs (n = 120). In addition to clinical variables and HFs experience, we measured the fasting serum levels of SIMs and lipid profiles (LPs), including Interleukin-17 (IL-17), high- sensitivity C-Reactive Protein (hs-CRP), Total Cholesterol (TC), Triglycerides (TG), Low-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol (LDL-C), and High-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol (HDL-C) in each group. Then, we calculated TC/HDL-C concerning the related variables and determined Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR), and Lymphocyte-to-Monocyte Ratio (LMR), according to Complete Blood Count (CBC) quantitative parameters in each group. Furthermore, we used logistic regression analysis to assess the association between SIMs, LPs, and HFs. Settings We performed this study in a governmental teaching hospital, Guilan/Rasht, Iran, from April to September 2021. Results The two groups of menopausal women without and with HFs were not significantly different regarding the median of IL-17, hs-CRP, NLR, LMR, TG, HDL-C, and TC/HDL-C, and the mean of TC and LDL-C. Based on multiple logistic regression, TG levels appeared to be associated with the incidence of HFs (B = 0.004, P = 0.040, Odds Ratio:1.004, 95%CI:1.000-1.009). NLR seemed to have an increasing impact on the HFs severity, according to ordinal logistic regression (B = 0.779, P = 0.005, Odds Ratio = 2.180, 95%CI:1.270-3.744). Furthermore, hs-CRP negatively correlated with TG (r = -0.189, P = 0.039) and TC/HDL-C (r = -0.268, P = 0.003) in menopausal women with ...

Abstract Objectives: One of the most important problems seen in patients after stroke is that they cannot develop normal muscle strength. In recent years, the use of Mirror Therapy (MT) in the recovery of this condition has been noticed in different studies. This study investigated the effect of MT on motor recovery in patients after stroke. Methods: In this clinical trial, 93 patients were divided into three groups, including MT, non-reflective surface, and control groups. The tools used in this study included the patient’s profile questionnaire, Mini-Mental State Examination Test, and Brunnstrom Recovery Stages. After the routine physiotherapy program, the intervention groups underwent MT for 20 sessions. The analysis of data was performed by SPSS software v. 22. Results: There was a significant difference between the non-reflective surface and MT groups (P=0.043) in pairwise comparison of their motor recovery stages in the 20th session, but the difference between the non-reflective surface and control groups was not significant. There was also a significant statistical difference between the MT and control groups in motor recovery stages in the 20th session, (P=0.0332) Conclusion: The obtained findings suggest that MT can increase patients’ motor recovery after stroke. This method can be used as a simple, cheap, and usable method at home.

Abstract Introduction: The emergency ward is one of the most important parts of the hospital, where people's activities can have many effects on the performance of other wards of the hospital and the satisfaction of patients. Changing lifestyle and transformation of cyberspace into one of the pillars of modern life has had a great impact on learning and teaching methods. To compare the level of theoretical emergency learning in medical students with two virtual and traditional methods. Materials and Methods: This quasi-experimental study was conducted on 88 medical students who started their emergency rotation in two hospitals of Guilan University of Medical sciences in 2021. Both groups participated in the same exam before and after the basics of electrocardiogram (ECG), normal ECG, types of blocks, diagnosis of MI and arrhythmias education. After collecting the information from the questionnaires, the data analysis was performed via SPSS software with a significant P<0.05. Results: Out of 88 students, 56.8% were female, and 43.2% were male. The mean and median knowledge score before and after education was statistically significant in two groups (P<0.001). The virtual group represented a higher average score of knowledge than the traditional group. The student’ grade point average affected the result of the score after education (P=0.019, β =0.234). Conclusion: The use of virtual education methods in combination with traditional methods might help to improve the learning process and knowledge of medical students in emergency department.

Abstract Background: The satisfaction of persons who need care is an important issue that has always been considered in providing care, and indicates the access to desired quality of the cares. This study was carried out to determine the relationship between moral intelligence and nurses' performance with patient's satisfaction from nursing cares. Methods: The research is a cross-sectional-analytic study. 260 nurses and 260 patients from the educational and medical centres of Guilan University of medical science participated in the study through stratified random sampling method in 2018. Demographic questionnaires, Lennick and Kiel moral intelligence, work performance and patient satisfaction were used in order to collect data. Then, the data were entered into SPSS20 and analysed by descriptive tests (average, standard deviation, percent and amplitude) and analytic statistics. Results: The findings indicate that the moral intelligence of the most nurses was so great, nurses' work performance was proper and patient satisfaction from nursing cares was moderate. There wasn't a positive and significant relationship between moral intelligence and performance of nurses and patient satisfaction. But a positive and significant relationship was observed between nurse's education level (p=0.05), hospital (p=0.008) and patient satisfaction. Conclusion: Based on obtained results, it seems that paying attention to some factors such as moral intelligence improvement and planning for more proper work performance to provide nursing services with higher quality and improving the conditions and factors affecting the providing higher quality nursing services is necessary. Also, some factors such as nurse's knowledge and education level can affect the improvement of patient satisfaction from nursing services and as a result improvement and progress of health care system function.

Abstract Introduction: Lifestyle is a dynamic chain, in such a way that choosing an appropriate lifestyle can affect the development or prevention of diseases, including osteoporosis. Objective: The current study aimed at determining the osteoporosis preventive lifestyle and vitamin D status among the nursing students of Guilan University of Medical Sciences. Materials and Methods: The current analytical, cross-sectional study was conducted on 185 nursing students of Guilan University of Medical Sciences selected by stratified sampling method. The study data were collected in two areas: demographic characteristics and different dimensions of lifestyle, including physical activities, nutrition (dietary), and habits by IPAQ (International Physical Activity) and food frequency questionnaire. The final score of dietary diversity ranges between 0 and 10. The higher score indicates the suitability of the dietary diversity in the subjects. If the total amount of consumed energy during physical activities in a week is 0-599, the physical activity score indicates a person with low physical activity, 600-3000 indicates moderate physical activity, and more than 3000 shows an severe physical activity. To measure vitamin D, blood samples were taken and reported as follow: deficient: 0-10 ng/mL, inadequate: 10-30 ng/mL, sufficient: 30-150 ng/mL, and toxic: more than 150 ng/mL. The obtained data were analyzed by descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation, 95% confidence interval, and median) and inferential statistics (the Kruskal-Wallis, ANOVA, the Mann-Whitney, and Regression). Results: The results of the current study showed that in the physical activity dimension, 44.9% of the subjects had low physical activity. In terms of diet, the dietary diversity Mean±SD score was 4.60±1.37. Regarding habits, 4.9% of the students used to smoke cigarettes, 30.22% smoked hookah, and only 12.4% of them had enough vitamin D. The amount of vitamin D considering hookah smoking and taking vitamin D supplementation was significant (P=0.0001). ...
