Abstract Acculturative stress has demonstrated significant negative relationships with Latinx students' academic outcomes. Framed through interpersonal contact theory, we examined the moderating roles of school ethnic representation (proportion of same-ethnic peers) and school ethnic diversity (proportion of different ethnic groups in student body) in the relationship between acculturative stress and both academic self-efficacy and school belonging. A sample of 190 Latinx youth (14-18 years old) completed measures of acculturative stress and school functioning, and they provided the name and location of their high school to facilitate calculation of school ethnic composition. Both ethnic representation and ethnic diversity moderated relationships between English Competency Pressure (ECP), a specific form of acculturative stress, and academic-self efficacy. School ethnic diversity also interacted with ECP to predict school belonging. Negative relationships between ECP and academic self-efficacy or school belonging only emerged for students in schools with very low ethnic diversity. In contrast, ECP was significantly negatively related to academic self-efficacy only for students in schools with the highest ethnic representation. These findings add complexity to the discussion of how school context matters for Latinx students' academic performance.

Abstract Chilean Plants Cytogenetic Database (CPCD) is a resource available online in electronic format, providing a cytogenetics catalog for continental and insular Chilean plants that are representative of the floras of the Southern Cone. In the last update carried out in 2021, we increased the cytogenetic data for 499 Chilean native species, and from here on we will include a new section with chromosome number data for 683 exotic species classified as invaders in Chile. Aspects on the coverage, features, and uses of the CPCD are presented here, including background information accumulated since its inception in 2010 to the present. With the new update, the database currently stores cytogenetic information for species belonging to the divisions Bryophyta, Pteridophyta, Pinophyta, and Magnoliophyta, thus contributing to the largest community resource on plant cytogenetics in the world.

Abstract Airplanes use heavy wired harnesses to provide multimedia services to the seats. Optical wireless communications (OWC) are a natural choice to reduce the amount of weight, reduce the wiring complexity, and avoid possible spurious electromagnetic radiation that risks affecting the airplane's navigation systems. The light's dual use as lighting and optical communications functionalities allows for providing light and multimedia content through the reading lamp. Thus, an optical system using optical fibers to replace wires and a reading lamp can provide a cabin seat with lighting and onboard connectivity. However, changing shielded harnesses by optical fibers is-from an optical design point of view-a challenging task as the reading lamp must also meet the stringent requirements to link the optical wireless transmissions to the optical fiber. The difficulty up to now lies in injecting the light emitted from the passenger's device into the optical fiber using the reading lamp as the receiving antenna and light injector. Here, we describe a proof-of-concept device that experimentally allowed for establishing a link between a transmitter and a photodetector coupled to an optical fiber-end, i.e., the link consisted of an optical wireless communication and the launching of the light modulated signal into an optical fiber. Additionally, from the experimental experience, we will describe the optical design strategies permitting designing a compound freeform concentrator to allow optical free space-to-fiber links.

Abstract Background: Food addiction (FA) is a construct that has gained interest in recent years, but its relevance in the Ecuadorian population has not yet been explored. The aims of this study were to explore the differences in the psychological profile (including FA) between university students from Ecuador and to identify the underlying structure of the relationships of the FA severity level through a mediational model.
Methods: The sample consisted of 972 university students, women and men (mean age: 20.1 years old, SD = 2.6), recruited from four Ecuadorian regions. The assessment tools included a unidimensional scale of FA, eating-related measures, emotion regulation state, impulsivity, and psychopathology state. Path analysis modeled the direct and indirect effects explaining the FA severity level.
Results: The results indicated that higher psychopathological levels were associated with FA. Similarly, no differences in FA were observed between the Ecuadorian regions. The path analysis suggested that older age, female sex, and higher difficulties in emotional regulation, impulsivity, negative mood, and anxiety trigger disordered eating; subsequently, more impaired eating behavior impacted the FA level.
Conclusion: FA is a complex clinical entity that includes multiple components related to eating disorders (EDs) and other mental health problems. The results of this study provide empirical knowledge for designing evidence-based prevention and treatment strategies.

Abstract In the last decade, global research on biodegradable materials for wastewater treatment has increased due to the fact that its volume has increased significantly. Native quinoa starch (NQS) and modified quinoa starch (MQS) with Dodecanoyl Chloride (DC) were used to obtain particles that interact with cationic molecules, oils, and heavy metals such as Cd, Hg, Pb, and As due to exposure of the -OH group during esterification, thus improving the interaction with divalent metal ions. With the chemical modification carried out, a greater affinity with oily agents was noted on the surface of the granule, obtaining more compact agglomerates or flocs which were more stable than those generated with the NQS. The pH of the solution was a determining factor for the stability of the emulsion generated, efficiency of oil removal (92%), and decrease in turbidity (98%) and chemical oxygen demand COD (87%). The removal of heavy metals was more efficient using NQS with 85% on average for the metals used in the synthetic wastewater, while for the NQS removal reached on average 60% compared to MQS.

Abstract Nina Kim,1 Joaquin Estrada,2 Isabella Chow,2 Aleksandrina Ruseva,1 Abhilasha Ramasamy,1 Chakkarin Burudpakdee,1 Christopher M Blanchette1 1Novo Nordisk, Inc, Plainsboro, NJ, USA; 2IQVIA, Inc, San Francisco, CA, USACorrespondence: Aleksandrina Ruseva, Novo Nordisk, Inc, 800 Scudders Mill Road, Plainsboro, NJ, 08536, USA, Tel +1 609-598-8146, Email UARU@novonordisk.comPurpose: To demonstrate a need for improved health insurance coverage for anti-obesity medications (AOMs) by comparing clinical and economic benefits of obesity treatments to covered medications for selected therapeutic areas. Methods: Using a grey literature search, we identified and prioritized therapeutic areas and treatment analogues for comparison to obesity. A targeted literature review identified clinical and economic outcomes research across the therapeutic area analogues. Associated comorbidities, clinical evidence, indirect costs (ie, absenteeism and productivity loss), and direct medical costs were evaluated to determine the relative value of treating obesity. Results: Four therapeutic areas/treatment analogues were selected for comparison to obesity: smoking cessation (varenicline), daytime sleepiness (modafinil), migraines (erenumab), and fibromyalgia (pregabalin). Obesity was associated with 17 comorbidities, more than migraine (9), smoking (8), daytime sleepiness (5), and fibromyalgia (2). Economic burden was greatest for obesity, followed by smoking, with yearly indirect and direct medical costs totaling $676 and $345 billion, respectively. AOMs resulted in cost savings of $2586 in direct medical costs per patient per year (PPPY), greater than that for varenicline at $930 PPPY, modafinil at $1045 PPPY, and erenumab at $468 PPPY; pregabalin utilization increased costs by $924 PPPY. AOMs were covered by 10– 16% of United States health insurance plans, compared to 45– 59% for the four comparators. Conclusion: Compared to four therapeutic analogues, obesity represented the highest economic burden and was associated with more comorbidities. ...

Abstract Purpose: Major neurocognitive disorders (MND) have multiple negative consequences on patients' lives and on their caregivers' health. Occupational therapy and cognitive stimulation have failed to show any significant efficacy on quality of life (QoL), cognitive functioning and behavioural symptoms. Bretonneau Hospital's Day Care Unit offers personalized and structured multi-domain interventions to cognitively impaired older patients on a weekly basis, for a 3-month period.
Objectives: Our objective was to determine whether a specific rehabilitation day care unit (RDCU) could influence the QoL of cognitively impaired community-dwelling elderly patients. We also aimed to better understand the characteristics of patients who had the most benefited from the RDCU.
Methods: Retrospective study based on a sample of outpatients participating in RDCU during three months. All patients underwent a cognitive (MMS), functional (IADl, ADL) and behavioral (NPI) assessment. We compared QoL using the QoL-Alzheimer's Disease (QoL-AD) scale before and after RDCU.
Results: Overall, we included 60 outpatients in our study (mean age 83.3±5.8; women=70%). We found a statistically significant improvement of QoL-AD scores after RDCU (31.8±4.9 to 32.9±5.2, P=0.008). Patients who benefitted the most from RDCU were older (P=0.01) and had lower baseline QoL (P=0.04). We did not find any other characteristics associated with QoL-AD score improvement in our population.
Conclusion: RDCU showed positive effects on QoL in this uncontrolled pilot study of older adults with MND. These findings should be confirmed in a future randomized controlled trial to corroborate the potential benefits of RDCU on QoL in older cognitively impaired patients.
